  1. Good luck I hope you clear and get to start on 5/16!! The job is great honestly! It has its days, but it’s a job just like any other, you have the typical work place stuff, egotistical dispatchers, supervisors, superintendents, etc. I don’t pay it any attention, I come in, get my schedule card and get on my train. I will say this, focus and get your rest! Nobody is perfect but try to limit your chances of incidents by being tired or not paying attention to detail! Other than the homeless problem and emotionally disturbed customers, it’s not bad at all. Hope to see down here soon!
  2. Yeah that’s a fact I got denied for bus operator before for that same reason lol, but I’m glad and thankful I got in as a T/O.
  3. That doesn’t matter I started in 2018 and I had close to 10 points lol they just don’t want any open tickets, parking or moving violations! I believe someone said that they haven’t been asking for abstracts recently I don’t know.
  4. I can confirm that I heard this exact number from a TSS in terms of the number of T/Os needed and how they would hiring for the rest of the year! Good luck to all and hope to see ya down here soon!
  5. Yeah the caterpillar ones are good and they have a wide fit choice as well!
  6. I agree with a few things you stated here. A lot of the information being given during school car is irrelevant, however if you really asset yourself and pay attention a lot of those things become very relevant when you’re out there on your own. Now to be honest we know this list was pretty much started at a time when there was a high shortage of T/Os so coming in you should know that you’re gonna be used as is! They tell you schedule wise you can be anywhere on random tours, so just gotta mentally prepare for that. In terms of the moves, just ask, either other T/Os, dispatcher or TSS, believe it or not there are still people down here that have no problem helping out, but if you don’t ask you can’t be helped!
  7. I took a picture of all my information I did the first time for pre-employment lol I know it sounds like a lot but when we went back in for a second time I had that to reference. Also they tell you to do everything with the best of your knowledge. So as long as everything matches both times they call you in you’re fine.
  8. Smh what is wrong with people? Like I get it, the job isn’t easy in the beginning, how are you going to learn if you’re not actually doing moves?
  9. When I say route guides, someone told me they added the points of no return location questions and other what aspect would you get if you’re this train questions to test. That’s what I was told.
  10. lol well I know for the B division it was a lot of information packed into a short time and this was a before they added CBTC and route guides to the curriculum. You’ll be fine it really takes applying yourself to make sense of the information that’s being thrown at you! They need ppl so it’s gonna feel like it’s rushed because they’re literally trying to get every body they have on the road lol…Good luck on ya practicals if you haven’t done them already!
  11. Be on the lookout they are definitely going to be having more classes as per a TSS I spoke to 2 days ago! It’s a process but the spring coming and they’re ramping up for spring and summer, with all the T/Os that’s out, just make sure you check your email daily! Good luck 🙏🏽
  12. I’ve been told that back in the day it used to be like that’s I recently had a student who told me that a couple of his classmates had this happen, they went from AMs to MIDs then to PMs I believe, but this was one of the first couple classes after Covid.
  13. I’ll piggyback off of what the other poster said, honestly right now the TSS isn’t going to explain those things as there are other more important things in your curriculum! I remember we had a day when they did explain all of that to us, showed us how to read the daily sheets, showed us how to use the IVR and a whole bunch of other administrative stuff! You’ll get there just be patient!
  14. This year I’m gonna make 4 years as a T/O. Honestly XX wasn’t bad for me, made a lot of money, but I was working my RDOs soon as I came out lol, I honestly felt like we didn’t get enough time on the trains so kill 2 birds one stone, gain experience and money. Now to be fair, I won a job on the A so I would only do A jobs on my RDOs in the beginning lol…but to each it’s own! It was different when I came out, still short but I don’t think as bad as now and with Covid, so I had my wishlist honored, never had my RDOs or tour changed the whole time. The higher your number the better the chances of that happening.
  15. Seen a school car class at Bedford Nostrand today, any chance you had a road day today? Good luck, before you know it you’ll be down here like damn time is flying lol
  16. When did your class start? Sometimes people know the job just isn’t for them. A friend of mine had dropped out of the class on the last list, he was told me, “I know that job just isn’t for me, I’m not gonna waste my time and theirs.” And he said he was content with his decision.
  17. From my class, none, from my induction group I know of only 2, it was 70 of us, I remember a B/O went back to title, his class told us he just wasn’t feeling the job. Then there was an older gentleman that resigned because he couldn’t study enough and didn’t want to get fired. He just had a newborn his class stated, so you know the dynamics with were difficult. Not sure if he has the option to come back like if he were to defer. Again most of the B division T/Os in my induction made it through and still here, there was one T/O that didn’t make it pass the road practical.
  18. Just stay on the DCAS site and this forum! There is a lot of informative people on here! The C/R 6601 exam was extended, I learned this just from checking the site. Don’t listen to whispers especially from people who do not work for transit, if they extend it they do, if not, it is what it is, just stay positive and ready! The list is moving fast and with Covid calming down a bit since the start of the year, you never know what might happen for spring and summer!
  19. This is true there is a shortage of train operators but this particular scenario can be caused by a lot of different factors. What it sounds like because I’ve been on the A and witnesses this first hand, there’s probably an open switching job at 207 and the crew office doesn’t want to give it to anyone for RDOs because they try to fill all road jobs, then the day comes, they don’t have any board T/O cause that person prolly picked up a road job lol. They did this to me on numerous occasions “oh you know I can’t give you a switching job for your RDO!” While I have literally seen others work switching and yard jobs on RDOs. It’s a lot of favoritism and pick and choose that goes on down here, just don’t let it bother you, remember names and faces lol so when the roles are reversed and they need a favor, you hit em with the nope and let ‘em deal with the congo lines lol
  20. lol it’s not that serious honestly! The emphasis put on getting 100s on the 2 signal exams is only so you really understand how to react out there on ya own, it’ll all make sense once you’re solo in that cab! This year I’ll make 4 years and stuff from school car always pops up in my head during a random trip on a random day! I’m not saying the course isn’t hard, since I came out they have made CBTC part of the curriculum and have made it mandatory to know the route guide I heard. Again if this is what you want then you will apply yourself, study and make it happen! I’m not a train buff, but I wanted a city job that pays well enough for me to grind like I did at other lower paying jobs, with benefits and a pension, so I took it serious and made the necessary sacrifices! Sorry for the late reply lol just finished a late clear. lol. From reading a few post from a few of you I can tell you’re hungry like I was for the opportunity to start so don’t let negativity deter you, the job isn’t for everyone and that’s fine, but if you really want it, make it happen when called upon! Good luck to you all…any new hires if you need anything feel free to PM me always willing to help with any questions!
  21. When you first come out they let you fill out a preference sheet, depending on needs though that’s where you’re gonna get placed! You get to rank what tour you want in order AM, PM, MID. Then the RDOs, if I’m not mistaken they also ask which is more important to you tour or RDOs. Honestly I heard a class recently came out and they all got dumped on MIDs even with the preference sheet. Once you’re XX you’re at their mercy, sometimes though they do work with you, it may also depend on what number on that list in terms of your group and those in front of you! Obviously seniority plays a part. Don’t let that discourage you though, just gotta put in your time, or put in a vacancy bid and hope to win something lol…good luck
  22. lol for real there’s many factors as to why preferences don’t get honored, that’s something that we all should expect starting at the bottom of the seniority list!
  23. Yeah the equipment should be easy to get used to, don’t know your tour but them 32s definitely are annoying for C/Rs especially on the midnights smh! I know you’ll be fine overall tho, gotta think positive down here!
  24. Don’t be it’s not that bad, lol just gotta get used to the new attitudes you’re gonna have to experience but I don’t think the operation is big difference.
  25. Don’t want to get any hopes up, but I just left 180 Livingston and I overheard a guy who took his pass picture being told orientation is October 7th. I’m a T/O so I posted here, hopefully someone on the forum got the call as well!!
