  1. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to KEY a home signal. Wanna know why it’s IMPOSSIBLE to KEY a HOME SIGNAL ? Because the IJ (Insulated Joint) is ADJACENT to the home signal with an stop arm associated. Being that the IJ is adjacent to the homie yu can’t see the aspect of the signal if Yu can get past it (key it) but yu can’t because the stop arm will never ever go down. Oh and of course it’s controlled by RCC so if RCC say “key by that home signal per school car rule” tell them that’s not a school car rule and maybe they should be re instructed. The TSS’s will tell you 1000 times before school car is over that it is impossible to key a homie

  2. It’s good days down here where you can possibly “clear board” sit for 8 hours and go home. Pretty sure that will change come summer time when people go on vacation and book off because it’s nice out. Then it’s days you can sit on board for 5 hours and pick up a job if not a whole job half of a job. When OT is offered take it while it’s there. If you wanna do 8 and skate everyday this is not the job for that.

  3. The platform will humble people REAL QUICK. Please don’t take this job as a joke. A lot of TO’s are on the platform for challenging signals and over running stations. You have to get your rest and stay focus on the task at hand. Get ya money and go home. Don’t listen to crew room lawyers or anyone else. Learn your job. Learn your rules. Learn to read your iron and study your signals and know what to do at each signal. Good luck to everyone coming in and if Yu haven’t got a call yet your time is coming. Please be humble

  4. @Amonroe90 Kaka bags is fine. Me and several others had a Kaka bag from the first day at PS 248. You can take the straps off and carry it like a duffel bag. When you walk the tracks just carry it by the handle. Don’t complicate it you’ll be fine. The KaKa fits your books and a small lunch as well. You’ll get used to carrying it around. Some for 60 bucks some for 70-80 bucks. I got the 60 dollar one and it was perfect for school car

  5. I’ve been here a few months now and I will say school car is the most fun. Make your mistakes in school car. You will make mistakes and you will learn from them. Listen to your TSS. Take notes. STUDY. Ask questions. Try to be great at what you do. It is not for everyone but I will say it’s great so far. You will have to adjust to getting ya body up real early to be in the bronx (A division) all bronx except new lots/Livonia or if you live in bronx and you end up in the B division Coney Island yard everywhere in Brooklyn. So prepare your body for it. Schoolcar is rough but fun. Hang tight whoever is waiting they will call you. I get told we need operators everyday so you will get a call. Relax and welcome to Transit

  6. @JPkim1130 arrive early you can find parking near by. You will be there for the 1st week and after that you’ll be a little everywhere lol they will give you a schedule by Thursday or Friday you will know where to report ahead of time. Subject to change though I will tell you that your TSS will let you know though

  7. @JPkim1130 nice . Come in prepared be ready to be up about 3-4 hours before your assigned time just to make it early. Early is on time on time is late so they say. It’s a change that you will have to make in your life. School car is the most challenging part of it so just take notes study and make sure you have all your materials they provide you with EVERYDAY don’t leave nothing home. Good luck and welcome

  8. @JPkim1130 buy 2-3 pairs of blue khakis and 2-3 dark gray button down shirts. You’ll wear that for school car until they get your measurements and order your uniform. You’ll be given a paper to order your boots for free. Once you get the boots start wearing them. They are apart of your everyday uniform. Order a nice bag to keep all materials in including books.

  9. What book and where specifically to study the Signals ? I feel like the rule book is ok but not enough. Where else can I study signals and their meaning ? School car TSS’s is not specific at all. I need to know my signals. The parts of the train and tracks aren’t difficult at all. I want to focus on SIGNALS . HELP PLEASE

  10. Man I’m loving the feeling of everything so far right now but lawd they are throwing books and packets at us left to right. I’m not even sure what to really study and what is most important to be able to pass these midterms practicals and finals. If anyone have suggestions on what to actually study so I won’t overwhelm myself that would really help. Cause I’m pretty sure we can’t store all this information in at once. So I need to know the main/important stuff to actually go over when I get home. Thanks I’m advance

  11. @Schecter thank you. And first day at the school can we bring our Bag with our supplies in it ? I personally have a KaKa bag with the straps that can be hidden packed with materials I think I would need. But the paper says no backpacks or bag with wheels allowed. Just wondering if that specific bag is allowed since I can carry it in hand ?
