Plus Staten Island has the hardest commute to and from Manhattan.

Have you tried commuting from New Jersey?

I'm not understanding why the second pair of winners (ginger & big builded male) didn't just get off the bus along with the first pair of winners (young lady & boyfriend with charger), when base told the driver to open the doors to let the first pair of winners off....

I may be downplaying your story here as I'm replying, but when you've been on 2 separate buses where a gun was drawn (none of which was at the b/o, but still), an occurrence where you have passengers getting belligerent over a driver not letting them off at a location that isn't a bus stop, is nothing to me..... Luckily, no shots were fired in none of the instances.... But verbally hostile ass passengers; man, I'm numb to that shit.... I read your last sentence there & I'm like, you've never been on a NYC bus where passengers got loud & hostile/threatening? (Regardless if it was towards the driver or some other passenger).....

I used to do trip reports on these forums, but I've gotten lazy (and to be perfectly honest, disinterested, as I felt folks weren't all too interested, for as lengthy as those things were.... Lol.).... Of course, the vast majority of fantrips I didn't do reports on (or else I would've gotten carpal tunnel by now ).... On a bus, I have seen everything from births (2 of them), to one death, and just about everything in between..... Off the top - fist fights, stabbings, drug deals, drug using (as in, injections), suicide attempts (no successes), robbery (attempts & successes), seizures, heart attacks, the b/o that threatened to drive the bus off the bridge, the b/o that kept swerving back & forth across the double yellow lines, the guy with the snake that got loose (don't know why the b/o even let that nutcase on in the first place), the guy that threw "magic dust" up in the air on the bus (this was around the time that anthrax scare happened, around 9/11 IIRC), the list goes on....

Maybe I'm missing something, but you also being of a NYC background, I'm not sure why this got you shook, fam.....

I remember reading them too. They were actually pretty interesting tbh.

Speaking of not reporting things, I finally got to ride the XN60 last weekend. Found myself on 125th and saw it coming so I figured why the hell not. I can't put my finger on it, but something about it was different from the rest of the newer Xcelsiors.

Can anyone here tell me why do people say the (E) is busier than the (F) that the former should run more frequently than the latter? What is it about the (E) that makes it more attractive than the (F)?

The (E) directly hits the Midtown CBD. Plus it has a direct connection to the Lex at 51st for (6) so it more than likely gets a lot of folks from Queens who work down there. It's also busy because it serves Penn Station and has to take on the commuters coming from NJ, Long Island, and even PA who work in Midtown and FiDi.

Weird story. This morning I saw R179 set 3065-3062 with 3066-3069 on my way to school. I leave early because It's regents week and I'm not taking the regents so I wait for the train at Norwood and BOOM

    I'm currently inside of R179 set 3065-3062/3066-3069

And there's something wrong with the LCD.

    It's on the (B)(D)?

Flatbush doesn't need a lot of LFSAs to cover the B44 SBS, hence why they are able to let some go. They have 37 LFSAs and use about 20-25 during the rush hours. They have a decent spare factor.

Gun Hill had to put 40fters on the artic routes to make up for their losses, big difference.

As for those XD60s, we'll have to wait and see.

Facts. You should see what the Bx4/A looks like with an LFS.

  6. Actually prefer the SOHell so much easier to get to downtown and relaxation too, get started for the real Hell when M&E returns to Penn

I wish it was like this more. When I was commuting into the city via train last fall, Penn Station was stop & go with all those damn MidTown Direct trains. These past few months however have been a straight cruise into Penn.

  7. I actually tried the M101 from Amsterdam & 181st towards Lex & 50th one time. Never again, lol. It took almost two hours (I guess the only good thing was that I was able to charge my phone). That trip took almost 2 hours to complete (I think it was close to 1 hr 50 minutes or somewhere around that). The M101 does way too much (I can only imagine when it went to City Hall).

Ever since the XD60s came to OH that's the only reason I'd take the M101 from Midtown to Harlem, if I needed to charge my phone.

  8. This is what happens when you have an old bus like the D60s in service. So today I was on the M101 and the Op was lowering the wheelchair and the wheelchair mover got stuck and couldn't move so right now the M101 is still there waiting for a Maintainance truck.

Had this happen to me on the Bx15 back in June. Sat at 125th/2 Av for a good amount of time because the ramp got stuck and we had to take the next one behind it. I think it's a combination of their age and the amount of wheelchair/walkers that those buses get. When it happened to me, there was at least 1-2 wheelchair riders at almost every stop on 125th. I'm still convinced to this day that the reason that lift crapped out was because of the amount of wheelchair passengers it picked up.

The M101 gets the garbage. They still get most of the high floor buses out of the M101, M102 and M103.

This is both true and not true. Speaking as someone who uses the M101 pretty frequently, you'll see more Novas and Xcelsiors on that route on certain days and at certain times. Although I will admit, I've recently been getting more Galaxies on that route whenever I take it.

  9. Dumb question if i still lived in NJ and was taking the 114 to NYC would i still be able to use cash or have they moved to tickets only?

also while i am here anyone who has fanned the 114 in union township The stop infront of the township hall that became a Dunkin Donuts does it still have it's ticket Machines or is it gone when the DD took over?

Yes, you can still use cash. The NJT app now allows you to buy mobile bus tickets so look into that too.

I don't think it does have the TVMs there anymore.

  10. The M14A not only terminates at a different location, but the 14D has more ridership.

The only law in place is operation while anyone is standing infront of the white line. NJT has standees on their Cruisers all the time. I ride them on their 166 local and the occasional 178 or 186.

The Bx4/4A shouldn't be SBS, along with other routes that have already been converted. It seems to me that the MTA has forgotten the actual point of Bus Rapid Transit.

Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk

They do, but the CNG cruisers only allow for maybe 1-2 standees at the most, like Turtle said.

I agree, however the Bx4/A crawls along Westchester as it is. And I think one factor is all the stops it makes. Maybe it doesn't need SBS, but making a Bx4A Limited could work, as could making the Bx4 local and the Bx4A SBS since that's probably what the MTA would do.

  11. From my personal experiences with the Bx36, I would get off of the first BxM8 bus to Pelham Bay at Bruckner Blvd and White Plains Rd on Sunday morning, walk down White Plains Rd and then wait for the Bx36 since it put me closest to my tutoring session (was near one of the schools in the area). However, I found the waits to be ridiculous (buses were regularly late, even that early in the morning), so after walking to my session the first time in 10 minutes, I realized that it was completely unnecessary to even bother with it and never bothered using it unless it was there and I didn't feel like walking over to the BxM8.  One reason they may be hesitant to add more service is because the line sees an incredible amount of farebeating. It has to be right up there with the Bx6 in that regard.  Boarding at the first few stops there in Castle Hill, you see hoards of people either giving a story or simply not paying, and I suspect most of these types are the folks in the housing projects, which look to be huge (never bothered to venture in that direction, as I already knew the deal lol).

I kind of figured out rather quickly that the part that I was going to was mainly homeowners who clearly drove and didn't use the local bus, so I would just go straight to the BxM8 and not bother with any local bus after a while.  Castle Hill supposedly has a few areas where the people feel as if they've "made it" being homeowners or whatever so while working class, they give off the I'm middle class aura. lol Similar to parts of the Shorehaven/Clason Point area not too far away I suppose. Seemed like for the few times that I used the Bx39 over there that people had a tendency to pay more on that line even though it runs in the general vicinity, but I also got the impression that there's a bit of segregation between the homeowners and project folks, so those folks may stick strictly with the Bx36, which makes sense, as the Bx39 is bit further away for them.

    How sway?

The fare is $2.75 for local buses. If they're taking the local bus, I don't see why they'd be paying more than that amount.

  12. I am definitely due for some new ones. May treat myself to some soon (I get really high end ear buds that are great at cancelling out any surrounding noise). Of late the evening buses I get on seem to have the most obnoxious people on it. Big mouth families getting on with their kids...

You can get some good ones at Best Buy for like $25. I don't remember the brand I have now, but when I get my hands on them again I'll tell you what they are.

As for the crazy folks, I tend to run into them in similar situations too. I normally do as B35 would and just use dismissive tones when talking to them so I don't set them off.

  13. LOL@dreaming about transit...

Hey you can dream about transit along with many other unrelated things. I once dreamt that I was on vacation on some luxury island and then I saw my boss there too. That might have meant something lol.

It's at Grand Av still pending investigation

What happened with 3972 did it go to Scrap or did they fixed it at Fresh pond depot

Sent from my SM-G920T1 using Tapatalk

I'm no insider, but I feel like its gonna be a while before 3972 goes back into service.

  14. I say it may happen and it may not happen. Only issue is if the MTA will allow those DHF60's to hit over to Grand Avenue. The other issue is why in the last minute for a big shortage of buses and not having the whole Brooklyn Division work on the (M) shuttle including Ulmer Park.

With the exception of the B1,B3 and B6. What other heavy lines does Ulmer Park have that the rest of the Brooklyn Division doesn't have to work the (M) shuttle?

Well I have seen a D60 coming from GA after getting maintenance done so they should have no issue taking them.
