  1. As much as i think it'd be nice to have the yellow yard stickers for the 6 again, i don't see them changing it. I mean look at the r62s. They were left orange which was for the 4, but the 3 had blue stripes. I would figure they are going to just leave the ones that goes to the 6 purple and change the cars that goes to the 1 to red. It isn't like the r62a's are going to be split, so there's no need to change the colors back.. Imo.

  2. Well once most of the r188s are delivered, they arent going to make such a rapid effort to clean them up. And on the cameras thing, if the buses are getting them, it stands to reason, they should do the same for the trains. Track down the vandals and make the scum pay for the damages.

  3. How does one post videos and photos on SubChat? I tried embedding, but when I preview it doesn't appear. (I'm asking this here because I want to make my first post a photo/video thread).

EDIT: It seems Chrome doesn't let me view the videos in the preview, but IE does.

for pics <img src="image properties link"> Iirc. click preview post first to make sure it works. Photobucket has this very link as an option, so i just copy and paste the link.

Vids, dunno, i usually just copy from youtube as they should have an embed vid option.

  4. Trimmed?

What happens is that the announcement plays well into the train's arrival, so the C/R can either leave it to play without opening doors or cut it off to save time. Generally the latter happens.

oic. i guess i never paid much attention to it then. But for the most part I have heard at least the mc transfer to the F part.

  5. I take it the cut off is a rush hour thing? when i ride the 4/5 to 59th (midday/weekends) I hear the whole announcement about the F and the metrocard transfer. I dunno about the 6, but i take it that is trimmed because it makes more stops closer together than the 4/5?

  6. Remember All R62As returning to the (6) wont have a railfan window on them , Westchester when getting the R62As back want them full width cab on both sides that is why Flushing is converting all of its R62As to full width cab now and why it is very hard to catch an R62A with a railfan window now , just a few R62As have a railfan window left. What I am noticing is that now Westchester is putting (6)<6> strip maps on all of their R62As even the latest sets returning.. Iv also heard they are going to start changing the yard stickers back to the original yellow , their just waiting for more R62As to get swapped back to make it easier on changing the stickers.

While i would like to see the original yellow yard stickers for the 6, is it really necessary to change them? They didn't change the orange stickers on the R62s when those were moved over to the 3. That said, agreed on the rfw. Very doubtful for anyone to catch those on the 6. I think they are going to move the original 5 car fixed sets first and then the 5 car linked singles.

  7. The R188 thing, I think they could've waited 10 more years till the R62s were to be retired and then give the 7 brand new trains. It's stupid how these ntt aren't backwards compatible. R160s were supposed to be compatible with the R143s, but that Canarsie yard damaged set is still being used as a parts train. I'm sure they'll fix the R142A coverts, but now there will be an issue on if the converts can last 50 years total or if the inserts might be retired after 30yrs unless they build more A car ends in the future.

And the same troll who considers the 75 footers to be "fat" and "slow", even claiming that the (A), (B) and (D) "suck" entirely for that one reason.

I still don't get his obsession with putting R62As on the 2 when it would have more issues with the rollsigns than the 6. It's one thing if the 2 and 5 had the same north south terminals, but I don't believe they are even close to each other (i mean isn't the 3 and 4 between them?). That'd be more time consuming than a 6 and <6>. Just a guy getting all pissed off over the old trains coming back.

  8. I remember the game show classic concentration, if that's what you're talkin about.... Used to come on channel 4....

Anyway, yeah, shit's better than these game shows they got out now.....

I miss that game that Janis huff hosted. something with the lotto, used to air like weekends at 7pm on ch4. Forgot what it was called. There was another one that the ceasars palace would host.

  9. My thing is if your gonna label it as new, at last make it look new

I think they should've just waited another 10yrs when it comes time to retire the R62/as and then give the 7 brand new trains from the start. That way no issues about making a 10yr old train compatible with the new ones (ie: r160s haven't been combined with R143s in service afaik, otherwise they could've built an R160 a car and run it with the other 3 R143s from that canarsie yard set). I just hope it doesn't mean the new R188 cars have to retire at 30 when the R142A converts are 40. Or can those converts last till they are 50 when the R188s are 40?

  10. If the money was there would it be feasible to run the (5) as the 3rd Ave line in the Bronx? Build a new line from 149th St up 3rd ave to Fordham Rd, then turn east along Fordham Rd to reconnect with the Dyre Line, continue existing service. Morris Park Station would be bypassed. Or the line could use E180th street to rejoin the line at E180th street or just south of Morris Park station.

Or even simpler: extend the D under gun hill road and have transfers to both GH stops so riders can get from one part of the bronx to the other a little quicker than via bus. I think it'd be better off for 3rd av to be part of the SAS (even though it will be a while till that even crosses into the Bronx).

  11. The Wall St Station wasn't that bad considering they built it from scratch.

although much wider than the actual platform, at least they got the island platform correct. What they could've done was have that r27/30 signed up as a 2 train instead of the 3.

Random and unrelated but I'm watching an episode of Law and Order SVU right now that has literally used Hoyt-Schermerhorn as a stand in for 3 different subway stations in the same episode - and I'm sure I'm the only person watching who's infuriated by this.

Worse, it's not even the biggest sin the episode has committed - when the station was standing in for spring street there's like 30 seconds of blatant cameraman in shot. Yikes.

Also they used an R68 with (C) on the rollsign...

well there was a scene shot at the transit museum using the museum cars as a stand in for the dc metro on nbc's the blacklist. So i think they could do worse....
  12. Finally saw an R62A on the 6 today and wasn't even looking for it. Was at the City Hall stop waiting for the 5 and the R62A pulls in. I didn't get a good shot of it, so went to the nb platform to get a better shot of it. 1750-41 front to end. So nice to see it in person for a change. Just a matter of time for the R188 7, but am in no hurry for that either.

  13. They numbered the cars wrong anyway... (personal opinion)

They should have numbered the 5 car sets in the 7800s and the 6 car sets and singles 7900s & up...

Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk

They should've had everything in sets of 5 (the new R188s as 5 car sets only) with the 6th car as an insert (to the R142A converts). Afterall that's the whole point of 'rebuilding' the R142As-to be compatible with the new cars.* But then again, all they needed was 8 more R160s and the 10 car sets would've been in 1-5,6-0 sets instead of 3-7,8-2 and they have more 8-car sets in the 9900s or something. The only good thing is the R62As singles are finally being arranged as 5 car consecutive sets. So all they need is to rebuild the GCT S TS platform to hold 5 car trains and use 5 car sets there.

*since it seems we have entire 11 car sets, I just hope an accident to one car doesn't mean the entire 11 car train is OOS, but it seems like it could be the case.

  14. That's the thing, ENY doesn't have NG's...

they don't but they did borrow some ngs from fb some months or years ago for some reason. I dunno if it was because they were short some buses (and if they were, why not take some rtss instead) i have no idea what the reason was other than the buses were returned back eventually.

And not that it matters, but erica, can u explain why the down vote?

  15. So with the 40' order confirmed, is it reasonable to speculate what numbers they will use? Theres the 700-1000s (more when the artics are retired) and the 9700-9900s (by then i'd guess the last o5 cng will be retired before then). And i guess the 8000s since they are done with almost all the 8800s.

  16. I don't see the need to split the R62as b.w the 4/6. Just send them all to the 6. The remaining R142as on the 6 should be swapped for some R142s so the 4 has all the remaining regular R142as (not to mention are probably better maintained on the 4 than the 6).

  17. Since the Rockaway S is a full 600' for the beach crowds, why not put the R32s there? they need a c/r anyway and the line is very short. That said, I'm fine with the swap with the J. It makes more sense as the majority of the line is above ground and that's good for the R32s. Not to mention at least the view is better on the J than mostly tunnels with the A, till it gets to Queens.

  18. Negotiations began again yesterday, and as my family already wants to visit Florida in the summer of next year, my mother suggested that we include a 2 night stopover in the city either before or after. That works just fine for me, with the added bonus of not having irritating kids on the train. Given we'll all be there (previously, it was only me and my dad going), hopefully she'll be less concerned, given we'll be in the same city. In any case, since I'm still a minor then my dad will be there and I don't think criminals and lowlifes would be as inclined to cause trouble as they would be were I going alone.

As far as the safety of lines go, how are the Jamaica and Flushing Els? Getting pics of the R42s and the R62A/R188 swap is my top priority.

I've taken pics at the Marcy and Myrtle av stations. The Jamaica el stops and even the alabama av stop by the ENY depot wasn't too bad. But I guess (and depends how much time you have) I guess you can go to Myrtle or Alabama av (island platform so you can take the train across the platform to return back to manhattan). ENY, it technically isn't that bad if it isn't school hours and I've transfered from the J to L and J to A and never had any problems, but since for you this is the first time, I can't really say what you should do, but will say it's not as bad as you'd think and as always be aware of your surroundings.

The rest of the way is if you really want to get pics of the trains on the curves like at Crecent st or Cypress hills. Flushing, as stated, is busy, so no worries there.

  19. Not a foolproof plan, but avoid the buses and subways around 2:30-4pm as that's the time the school kids will be loose. I generally avoid the large groups of kids if possible. I know it's probably insanely expensive to hire those yellow buses, but enough already using the MTA to ferry the kids back. I'd like to take a train/bus ride without 50+ kids acting like they've been released from some asylum or prison. Manhattan is probably the best place to go to as far as safety in general. If it's like a subway centric trip, the southern brooklyn bmt lines are also pretty safe. The A to the rockaways is also ok, but I'd prefer to stick with the Rock Park S than venture to the Far Rock end of the line. As long as you are staying in the station (not venturing down to the streets), then I'd say for the most part you'd be fine. I haven't been on the 3 past Utica in a while and the D past 161st, so I can't comment about those lines, but imo, probably best to avoid those lines and you aren't missing out on much anyway.

To back up the in broad daylight stuff. I was walking back home in my area and was stopped by 3 guys. One of them looked like he was smoking a joint, asked me to show him my wallet. I just kept walking away. And thank god they didn't try to chase after me. I kept a steady pace and walked a few blocks away to make sure they were gone. But that point on, I'm always on full alert even in my own neighborhood. In a sense this is where those google glasses would've been great to get a pic of the scum and upload it online.

  20. Me neither. I guess with the GT Continental being 'sporty' it could be a cross b/w a Royce or a Ferrari. Basically the ppl that don't really fit in either category and wants something of both parts. Me personally [if i ever had the money], I'd take the Ferrari and run it on a track. With a Rolls Royce, i'd have to hire someone to drive it because the amenities are at the back even though I paid the money to buy the damn thing to drive. For that I may as well buy a regular lincoln/cadillac limo.

Speaking of overrated, what about the Jag F type? Supposed to be great, but with the high costs and stuff, it's just not worth it. I'd rather get an Aston Martin instead.

  21. I take it for the ability to sneak up on someone? I want the game badly, but at this point I'm waiting for the price to drop. I waited 2months+, the very least I want the price to go down $20. I'm not paying the $60 when I could've gotten it earlier. I may love the series, I'm not in any hurry to get it if the price isn't reasonable.

Yes.  I've saw a few Rolls Royce and Bentley's in my time and they've all been in Midtown along 5th or Madison Avenue.  I have also seen a Lamborghini in Riverdale and several Maserati's on Staten Island near the Todt Hill area.

To date, and in various places: Manhattan- RR (from classics to modern), Ferraris, 1 Maybach around the Madison sq park area.

Brooklyn- Bentley, Lamborgini (including the aventador that was sadly split into 2 a few months ago in the mill basin area), Maserati, 1 fisker karma.

Sometimes i see the same vehicle twice, but for the most part they've been by chance. The day I see a bugatti veyron on the city streets (driving down, not just for show), I'll be shocked. That's something I might chase after if i could lol.

For american cars, for years I've still yet to see a viper around other than in a showroom. But of course, there's no shortage of corvettes. I would love to see the Ford GT (based on the gt40), just love the design of that car. Pity Ford keeps pumping out their mustang line. I mean it was cool at the start, but now it's just so boring. Camero is ok and starting to grow on me the way the new Dodge Charger did when that started (i still do double stares if i see an nypd dodge charger).

No I think the Karma is a full electric car no?

I saw it featured on UK top gear, I think it's diesel powering the motors, Iirc.
