  1. I wouldn't totally rule out R62As on the 4, but as far as things goes the logical move is R142as to be converted and sent to the 7 and in turn R62As to the 6 to replace the taken sets. As for what to do about the remaining R142as on the 6, I still think they should go to the 4 since it keeps them all under one line. In turn take some R142s and give those to the 6.

From what iv heard eventually Westchester will bring back the Yellow sticker likely next year , just more R62As have to get swapped , as well the day before yesterday , All 3 R62As were running back to back on the (6) without any R142As  in between them , one set was going to parkchester and the other 2 to Pelham Bay Park.

That's good. I wasn't a fan of the purple stickers. I liked the yellow ones more because I grew up with the R62As on the 6.

  2. Agreed on the (D) and the (R) . But let me add that its the (N) that also has extremely high ridership (if not more) to both Asian business districts/residental neighborhoods in both boroughs, in both directions depending on the day and time.

Particularly on the weekday AM or PM rush the Sea Beach Express will get crushloaded by the time it hits Canal on the PM or 8th Avenue on the AM. The majority of passengers access the 8th Ave on the Sea Beach to commute to and from work, also on Saturdays as many native NY'ers have to work Saturdays in either business district in both boroughs.

I regularly commute on the (N) taking it from 8th Avenue.

Speaking of 8th av. I recently had to take the N there over and totally agree they need to reopen the 7th av station entrance. The 8th av side was like a mad house especially with people going up and down the single flight of stairs on each platform. If the person isn't on the platform by the time the train pulls in, they are sol with the mass of people making their way up.

  3. I miss the pbls as well, but i don't miss triboro and green lines. Those two were the worst with buses. It's a wonder the buses survived after the takeover. But i hear ya about the diversity of the decal and the buses they ran. Nybs, liberty lines, command and qsc were my favs. Jbl, i never ventured much on, but i thought their rtss were pretty good (when they were spread out to ex-gl and ex-lga.

  4. Yup^ just like how the B100 wouldn't be covered by FB even though it passes right past the depot. If the Q35 needs a run covered, it'd be from another FR line like the Q22 or Q52 (especially with artics). Got on a few of them during the afternoon. when it really isn't needed as there's more seats than people riding lol. Rush hours are when the artics are needed or when school is out for the kids.

Tragic story. In fact ironically similar to a recent accident in Los Angeles not to long ago.

My thoughts go out to Eubanks' family and coworkers.

Agreed. I don't see many female b/os at FB, but it's possible I might've gotten on one of her bus runs. Either way condolences.

  5. 2141-2145 were originally from the (3) actually and i caught it on the (7) line last week so it can't be back on the (6) already since there have been no more R62As transfered to the (6) as of late.

R62A Car Numbers on the (6) as of late are :

    1741-1750

    1721-1725,1731-1735

    2191-2195 . 1791-1795

2141-2145 was from the (3) and then was sent to the (7) in 2002-2003 along with the rest of R62As that formely ran on the (3) and (6) and it is still on flushing right now i caught it last week, unless you both  talking about 2191-2195 that are on the (6) currently and it is borrowed from the (1) .

No the (3) only operates R62s It doesn't run R62As.

The (1)(6)(7)(S) are the only cars running R62As.

They are both borrowed from the (1)

The orange strip is for Livonia Yard, which is how you can tell the R62 set on the (1) is from the (3).

Ok let's clear this up. Since you guys are talking about way back in the early 2000s, then yes, Those single units were on the 3. Today it is only R62s. Orange strip used to represent the 4 line. Blue for the 3, Yellow for the 6. Eventually purple will probably represent the 6 (unless they were to bring back the yellow strips).

  6. I'd love to see an R110A and R110b saved. I never got to see either in person other than from the yards. The R110A interior looked interesting with the window side seats. I think it would've been nice to have, but given how they obstruct the walking flow, probably best they went with the inward facing seats.

  7. How come when the fare goes up the express bus fare rises higher than the Local/Limited Buses? The price of the local/ limited goes up every 25 cents which isn't bad but the express bus fare went from $4 to $5.50 and then to $6. Does that have an effect on ridership because some people might want to save a few dollars by taking a Local or limited bus to the subway?

well express buses should be at least double the local fare given they are one way trips and the bus has to recover the costs somewhere. I dunno if there's a market for reverse direction travel, so those buses are empty on the return trip back or they sit in the manhattan depots till the pm rush.
  8. You'll run into the PhotoBucket limit way faster than the flickr limit, even if you're pictures are small. I had about 11,000 bus photos in PB before they placed the limit. They gave me almost 3GB of space after that, and I ran out in about a month. Granted, most pictures there were about 4 MB in size. I've uploaded almost 3,000 photos (1 MB each), and I've used 0.31% of my space. I haven't even reached 1%. I'd recommend to anyone flickr.

Most of my pics are shrunked down to like 600kb at 900x675 pixels so I don't 'blow up' the screen. I guess it's become a habit for me and that's why it takes me so long to upload pics because I also edit/crop the pics as well. I hardly ever upload an image 'as is'. So for me I don't have any issues with the limits. I will say the recent update made it a pita to work with. Before, a few months back, it was a breeze to delete stuff and arrange things. Maybe I might turn to flickr in the future, but right now with FB, I don't really need to.

Gah, I just remembered I forgot to those isometric sketches for homework D:

Good thing I have a study hall today...

    On a completely different thought;

Ok, so daylight savings was extended to november so that it would be safer for kids during halloween, right? But how is that safer than sending kids to school in darkness for 2 WEEKS?

It isn't that dark in the morning unless kids wake up in 5am or something. What about for people walking home from work at night? Shouldn't they have some light on the way home? What they should do is make DLS the new standard and apply DLS for the fall/winter and bump the clocks forward an hour. That way 7pm wouldn't be so damn dark right now. Start school an hour later to compensate for the time shift.

  9. If someone's gonna be disrespectful about your hobby, and no amount of explanation is going to get thru to the person, then I'd save myself the hassle and drop the person. Giving the other person more feedback just gives the person more attention than they deserve. Not worth the hassle.

  10. 4p: on the orchard beach type turnstile setup, I dunno. I know what you mean regarding those, but I don't think you can really do that unless it's maybe the big hubs like Kings Plaza etc. I guess probably they should have either 1 member of the eagle team on like every other bus or have a team at the major spots like near the Junction on av H with the B44 sbs. There really is no fool proof solution to beat the farebeaters unless more money is spent.

As for non sbs lines, I've always thought that places like the Junction should have 2 separate stands: 1 to off load and the other for loading. That way people can get off from both ends of the bus and then the bus pulls up to the actual stop, they won't need to open the back door and everyone would have to go thru the front.

Agree 100% on that one. The B41 and B46 operate on congested corridors plus they need artics as well as they are two of the busiest bus routes in the city.

What those 2 need are buses evenly spaced apart. Artics is nice, but if they are bunched together like the other regular 40' buses are, then you have the same issue with overcrowding at the bus stops and then the farebeaters looking to get on the bus more quickly.

  11. Back in town guys, just want to say a quick sorry to anyone I've upset/offended and hope we can put this past us. Inside jokes that may offend/confuse some are best kept off the public domain. Leaving it at that, glad to be back.

Now while I'm preparing to post some pics, quick question. How is Flickr now compared to Photobucket? I know they give you much much more space, but how are the bandwidth/size limits? Getting sick of the Photobucket quotas...

I take it you just upload the image as is to flicker? I always edit my pics so it isn't so big and of course to copyright them, so I've still got some room on my PB account. Then again I haven't been taking as many pics as i used to.

  12. Why not? It will only make bus service faster... unlike some people on this forum im a big supporter of +SBS+ and other services like it

Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk now Free

it is pointless without enforcement. They don't even do enough enforcement as it is. Yes i do agree the off board payment and loading from all the doors is good, but i'm not optimistic it will work given how the riders here would likely just farebeat despite the fine threat.
  13. Let me clear this up regarding the Q-53. It will be LGAs line, it WILL be USING CPs buses. The Q-29, 72, and 104 are all staying at LGA.

imo, they should split the Q53 with JFK to take off some of the pressure at LGA. They have too many buses there. The Q53 could be interlined with any of the buses that serves the Rockaways. It makes more sense as a JFK/FR line than LGA.

  14. Yeah, I've seen those long ads on some of the RTSs here. Some of the rear ads cover up the 'nyct'. Whatever this company is, they must really want the attention. The signs do look ugly, but then again, it doesn't really matter. So I'm slightly indifferent on them.

  15. Well yeah and I don't understand why Staten Island got so many new local buses first, then they were spread to other depots instead of each depot getting their fair share of new local buses knowing how poorly Staten Island treats their buses.

the 3800s were lead acid battery buses and i think they were better suited for shorter distances like the manhattan crosstown lines. Lithium ion battery buses pushed them all out. Same story witht he 3900s at fb. Those were pushed out when the 4570s to 4630 group arrived.

Dunno how long the o5s are staying in brooklyn, but at least it meant the ngs that were at fp were sent back to si where they came from.

    =

Rode artic 5415 on the q35 yesterday. Also rts 9311 on the q35 as well.

  16. Yeah I know. I just wish they could can them already.  I think from my experiences on Staten Island with those buses (filthy, duct tape on the handlebars and lack of AC) that I have an extreme dislike of them.  If they were better maintained I would probably have a different view of them.

And as been said many times before: even if they got brand new buses, it won't mean shit if they are still treated like shit. As for the O5s, not my favs, but the ex-BLs have earned my respect for still running 'well' despite being thru the likes of LGA and JFK/FR. Thank god for the RTSs they were all pulled from SI when the NGs went there. I think if those O5s were in Brooklyn instead of the RTSs, they might not be as badly beaten by the roads, depots (when it was just the 2) and riders.

    =

As for 2nd hand buses, the artics I see on the Q35, were they already filthy (one had graffiti on the back wall) before they were sent there or was that while they've been at JFK/FR?

  17. Perhaps downvotes should be enabled provided there's a reason (spam or a person makes a counter argument about why they don't agree with a certain post).

I too hope the R27 is saved. Such a shame we've gone from a couple hundred of them (r27/30) to a handful now in over 20yrs. Would be nice to have it up an running with the R30, R16 and R34 cars. I mean, the R9s, it's like every year or 2 there's another car being restored. So why can't we get that 4 running again? I'd love a B division version of the tomc.

  18. I just want shows to air one thing instead of those little pop ups on the bottom of the screen advertising another show. Bad enough they have a transparent logo for another show to watch or a countdown timer... And to think tbs was horrible for airing another show or movie during the end credits of the previous show/movie... With all the commercials, you think they wouldn't need to do all this crap.

  19. I can't believe how much the MTA is pushing this search for this kid. They emailed AND robocalled me his description....and one of the perks of this job for me is supposed to be that I NEVER get email! Every 5 minutes on the radio too, as well as station PA announcements. If he's in the subway, there's no way he could have not been noticed by now.

Now.....are there any NYCTF regulars who haven't posted since Friday?

I agree with this. I'm sorry if it sounds insensitive, but how much resources can they put for one kid? I hope he is found alive, but at what expense? Maybe this is where the nypd would justify having cameras on every street block or something so they could track him.
