  1. The 65 St transverse has a height limit of about 9' 6" if you hug the curb, but anywhere from 11' 4" to 12' feet if you ride near the centerline.

Going by the spec sheets of whatever we have running, our buses height ranges:

    XD40: 10' 6"

    XN40: 11' 1"

    C40LF: barely touching 11'

    LFS/A: 10' 6"

RTS: somewhere in the 9' 6" range

MCI: about 11'5 or so, give or take

Prevost: just a tad bit shorter than the MCI

    I've driven Prevost H3-45's through there many times & they're 12'4"

  2.

1010 is OOS due to an accident 9/30/15

5058 is OOS due to an accident on the LIE on 9/27/16

*2947-2948 transferred to Fix route for use on the 7A (2948 broke down and was replaced by 2947 for the rest of the week, unknown if 2948 was returned to SCAT service)

*The 7D/E, 10A, and 10D/E were proposed to be cut in 1990. It is assumed they were cut because another route that was listed with them was mentioned as having been cut but restored a few years later. It is assumed that if they were indeed cut they were restored around or before 1993 as the routes were listed on the 1993 system wide bus map

Does anyone have any info on Holbrook Transp or Four Seasons Coach Lines?

  3. As for my commentary about that map itself.... Where do I begin...

    - Astoria isn't that large (due south) & neither is Steinway (due west); Queensbridge pee-jay's aint in no Astoria!

    - This is more of a question... What/where is the dividing line(s) that separate S. Ozone park & Ozone Park?

If anything, S. Ozone Park should be dubbed East Ozone Park...

    - LMFAO @ Lindenwood being east of cross bay & south of the Belt

    - And now that my a$$ has been laughed off, who wants to set up a GoFundMe for my funeral....

....because I'm *dead* @ Malba

....and what alternatives are these that will lead to the extinction of the Q28?

    That route is going nowhere....

1 - I suppose, but part of the problem w/ the current Q31 is that terminal in the middle of nothing in-particular....

2- Not agreeing or disagreeing, but I'm not so sure those folks in Beechhurst would have a use for the Q31....

I like the idea of local service along 26th, but I would go about doing that with the Q16....

So this thread goes from improving bus service to what makes a neighborhood. Rochdale was never a neighborhood it was always a complex. (But let those signs on the Q85 and Q111 tell us different). Ever heard of Locust Manor? Even before that plane crash in 2001, I heard of Neponsit. It's between Roxbury and Belle Harbor. I think every borough has subsections. I think Pomonok is only used to refer to the PJ's (same as Electchester, Queensbridge and Ravenswood). I actually might make a thread about it

How about Bowery Bay & Dutch Kills on Queens map?

  4. That's his point: It doesn't justify running outside of rush hour.

Also, the demographics of who rides the S89 over the Bayonne Bridge are very similar to the express buses. (A lot of office workers going to Jersey City & Hoboken). Obviously reverse-peak (and the intra-SI ridership, which makes up around 60% of the overall ridership) is more working-class, but the point is that the main ridership base it's geared towards is 9-5 office workers.

They should add stops bet. the bridge & the HBLR station. There's businesses & industry there that could probably add ridership.

  5. I was aware of all that (Hopefully that doesn't sound as rude as it sounds in my head), though I wasn't sure if the Patchouge-Centereach-Ronkonkoma route had been like that S63 or 7A.

Any idea if the St.James-Lake Ronkonkoma Route was a separate route?

Also unless it was was a summer time spur or like every other bus, the 1969 map had the Sayville route going right to the Lake.

Have no knowledge of a route bet. Sayville & St. James.

  6. Probably 1958 or later, or at least that's when it had probably started running under the Coram name, since Coram Bus Service was incorporated in 1958.

The 1969 map from what I can tell doesn't support that routeing, the 1969 map has what the route making a right off Lake Ave towards Commack, then there is a second line coming from Commack following part of the current S56 however it turns left at some point and passes by the Saint James RR station before heading straight for where it seems to be Smith Haven Mall would be.

The 1969 map shows a route going to St. James RR from what looks like Sayville. (I can't only clearly make out the line up to Lake Ronkonkoma, but there is a line that comes up to Lake Ronkonkoma from Sayville.)

Smith Haven Mall opened in 1969.

The S62 wasn't run by Coram at that time and had only, to my knowledge, gone to Port Jefferson Sta. I'm not sure when it was extended to Hauppauge.

Also it's not really the same trajectory, NYS 347 is a straight shoot from Port Jefferson Sta to Smith Haven Mall. the S60 travels on NYS 25A which has alot of twists and turns and

The route(s) you're mentioning from Sayville were run originally by Utility Lines. There was a Sayville-Ronkonkoma & a Patchogue-Centereach-Ronkonkoma(which was taken over, I believe by Holbrook Transp) which is pretty much today's S63 route bet. Patchogue & Smithaven.

Utility Lines also had a route from E. Islip to Central Islip (part of today's 3C route).

  7. When did it run to Commack?

I never heard that it ran to/from Commack from what I've been heard. And I've heard about it from two former riders and Newspaper articles where the route is mentioned and it's never mentioned that it went to Commack. The News paper articles are from the 70's, as there was a big brew ha-ha, between Coram Bus Service and SUNY Stony Brook's student body over a bus line to Smith Haven Mall to the College with a stop at a local Supermarket, that directly says that the route to Port Jefferson Sta went from there to Smith Haven Mall, with not mention of Commack, so the best I can say is if it went to Commack the route was changed sometime by the early to mid 70's.

The copy I have of the 1969 bus map I have on my computer is of no help, as it's to small to make out the route identifiers the companies used back then, also I don't think it was done to scale. and makes it look like there were two different routes that went through Saint James at the time.

The S64 (today's S56) used to run from Commack(at Commack Corners shopping center) to Port Jeff. Sta. Before Smithaven Mall was built,it turned left onto Lake Ave to 25A. After the mall opened,it was extended there, then backtracked to Lake Ave. This was an old Coram Bus route that started in the 1950's. They also had a Coram-Smithtown route, but don't know much about that one.

  8. I'm not sure what the reason for the S21 elimination was.  All I know was that i heard that it was shown on a Nassau system map in the early 80's and then on the next map a few years later it was gone. It could have been eliminated because of low ridership or it may have been eliminated because it paralleled the S1 for alot of it's journey. (There was another route, Coram Bus Service's original route from Port Jefferson Plaza to Smith Haven Mall Via Saint James and Stony Brook, that was axed partly do to ridership and partly do to it paralleling the S60, which was itself created from three separate routes. I'm not sure what the route number was for that short carried route but from what I heard it was in the 90's.)

    S64

  9. When the n14 was taken over by All-Island Taxi, the fare was increased to $4.00, and one or two runs were outright eliminated. So right now it costs less to run. Furthermore, it could attract some of its current customers from the area during the rush hour, in addition to maintain part of the n14 ridership. If they managed to get 50 riders, they'll still be more efficient over the NICE operation, and All-Island Taxi would negate whatever money they lost running the route. The Rockville Centre reference will probably be for the n17.

I still want to know what is to be restored in Baldwin. Baldwin was left untouched the whole time.

What about Franklin Square? There wasn't anything eliminated there.
