  1. Today, I took 9:40 n4 Freeport, 11:30 n19 Babylon, then went to investigate Merrick Public Library as part of my volunteer as Citizen Defending Library since n19 got there 11:40, and my best female B/O friend driving 12:40 n51 was long wait, so I walk north on Merrick Av, and I got confused with small red house that marked "Merrick Library." because I only went to Merrick Public Library few years ago. I came to Merrick Public Library, use internet quickly and printed out flier for library canvassing in NYC.

After quick internet use, there was one empty bookshelve at Adult and Children's room, and I quick walk to Merrick Rd. When I got to Merrick Rd/Hewlett Av, one of n51 bus in morning NEVER SHOWED UP. I met with my B/O friend on 12:40 n51. At Merrick Rd, I took 12:45 n35 Westbury because I want to investigate what happening at Westbury Public Library, however male bus driver drop off bus driver's passenger's friend and me at opposite of Westbury Public School on School St.

When I went to Westbury Public Library, librarian told us it was closed. I said thank you and I ask her, "Can you help with NYC Public Libraries?" as I handed out "Aren't libraries democracy?"

I went back to same way and wave to my favorite school bus company First Student, then walk back to Post Av/School St bus stop and I even give lady assisting eldelry man who was using walker. I gave her library flier after I ask if they use library a lot and they said yes." 14:15 n35 Baldwin Harbor left 3 minutes early and stop by at deli, where bus driver's passenger friend went to buy Lemon tea for bus driver and he came back quickly.

I got off at Post Av/Maple Av, and surprising 13:00 n22 Hicksville came ontime, but arrive late at Hicksville Station.

After that I had lunch at Dunkin Donut, and met with LIBRU member who works for Hicksville Federal Ex. After checking on n20 Great Neck and n20L Hicksville, I went to Flushing Library which Eventbride movie "Race to Nowhere" was actually Queensboro Hill Library.

So after she gave me library hour schedule, I went back to n20 bus stop to check, then took Q44 to HHE North for library.

It was due to lack of attendance, movie was finished. Nice Asian librarian was very nice and he went to search to see if there's movie in Brooklyn, NJ, or Long Island and he printed out information for me and I took Q44 to Van Wyck Station for (E) to (6) to (5) for South St Seaport Forum, then after Seaport Forum, I took (J) to (F) for Occupy Wall St's fundraiser, then took last (F) train home to Roosevelt Av for (7) home.

    WOW! What an exciting story.-lol.

  2. Just saying, those bus have a long layover on the newsday side. Unless it gets rescheduled (which I would at least expect or hope happens), I would suggest to get off at SUNY Farmingdale or Newsday and walk.

Some runs even have meal breaks at Newsday. I suppose the passengers will have lunch with the driver. Did NICE think about this?

  3. I think lots of Queens riders aren't aware of NICE Bus's closed door policy.

Most riders on n4, n20, n21, n22 buses happens quiet often.

I remember when I was on n4X to Freeport from Jamaica Center, somebody got off at 130th Rd-Farmers Blvd.

I remember when I was on n20 Hicksville, someone wanted to get off in little before Nassau County, and nasty man didn't care about closed door policy.

If the drivers working the Queens routes would make an announcement when picking up at the first stop in Flushing or Jamaica(esp. at 169th & 179th St) as I always did,the problem of pass. trying to get off before Nassau would be less prevalent. I even had my own sign that said "no dropoffs in Queens" taped on top of the farebox.

  4. you must both be very proud. I used to drive buses for a living and eventually started my own company for doing what we did. After 4-5 years it just felt like a waste of my time, so I split up the empire amongst friends I had made and left. Once I did I was able to earn numerous times what I used to make, retire my family and myself, own multiple properties across the globe [toronto, vancouver, los angeles, ny, miami, alps, dominican, paris, london, south africa, moscow, bangkok, tokyo, etc], travel the world in chartered jets & yachts, collect the most expensive and rare cars in the world, party with the creme de la creme of society, and I've dated 2 a list actresses, 6 models, 4 daughters of an oil tycoon, shipping magnate & 2 ceo's and all this within 10 years after leaving.

    congratulations

    What a load of bullshit.

  5. Did you see the news story that said the B/O "Crossed into oncoming traffic"? The "oncoming traffic" was like 400 feet ahead waiting at a red signal" And the only thing he crossed into was the left turn lane for Sussex Rd, where there were no vehicles waiting, to get to the Left turn lane for Middle Neck Rd so that he wouldn't miss the left turn signal.

I did that all the time,as well as any other seasoned driver trying to keep on schedule.

  6. You can't trade off reliability with ridership. Ridership to Queens is pretty high during the day especially when folks are coming from major hubs along the line. Breaking up lines would cause an increase in time, a decrease in ridership and more costs for the passenger, something that NICE wouldn't be that stupid to do, even with their questionable moves.

And the n22X hardly fills a void, especially since there are no PM runs. And the n4x was never to reduce bunching, especially since buses STILL bunch along Merrick Blvd. It was to provide a much faster trip overall considering that local n4s stop at almost every stop along the way up. The reason there are n22As terminating at RFM is because trips coming back down from RFM on the n22A are PACKED...PACKED!! Some of those n22As interline with other routes/deadhead to the depot but the majority of them that go up to RFM, come back down PACKED!

Speaking of reliability-the N19 back in the 70's ran from Freeport all the way to Patchogue. Can just imagine what the reliability would be like if it did today.

  7. Today, there was excellent NICEst male driver on 13:25 n20 Hicksville #1735, even thought he was late 20 minutes at Flushing-Main St.

After SUNY Old Westbury, Hispanic lady who was not unfamilar wanted to go to Newbridge Rd/Buffalo St, I tried to Google Search on my tracfone but map wouldn't come out. Hopstop direction said to take n49 Hempstead bus to Newbridge Rd/Locust St.

After he got to Hicksville Station drop-off at 15:18, he decided to help her and I stay with her on bus because B/O was going back to depot.

He turned left at Newbridge Rd and pulled over to safe curbside, park past Duffy Av and offered to talk with her friend on cell phone and he got location and he drop us off at Locust St n49/50/87 Bus Stop by Familiy Dentist. This bus driver deserve HEROIC AWARD.

More like a violation for being off-route and/or deadheading out of service with passenger.

    August 31st Service Change

NICE made a very small number service adjustments on 5 routes starting Sunday, August 31st.  Most of the changes are just minor tweaks to adjust to the Fall school year and make better connections with LIRR trains.

Additionally, we have reinstated n6X college service between Hempstead Terminal and Hofstra/NCC.  This n6X college service will run until December 22nd, 2014, and will be suspended during winter break until classes resume again on January 19th.  For service to NCC/Hofstra during this winter break, we suggest taking the n35 or n16 from HTC.

The following routes will have new weekday schedules (the n24 has a new weekday and Saturday schedule)  that go into effect Sunday, August 31st, 2014.

    n1

    n6/n6X

    n20/21

    n24

    n35

In order to read parts of the N6 & N20 online skeds, you have to stand on your head, because they're upside down.

  9. Travis is a neighborhood of Staten Island at/around the West Shore.

Teleport is a reference to Teleport Business Park, which the S46/S96 goes through.

Travis is located west of Bulls Head, near the western end of Victory Blvd It was originally called Linoleumville. The Teleport is actually in Bloomfield, off of South Ave

  10. You're talking about delays and traffic that occur anywhere during rush hour. The whole bus system, both here and in the city, gets delayed because of traffic. I don't see the 73/74 screwing up the reliability of the rest of the route north of Wantagh because the schedules would be changed to accommodate the time difference between midday service on the route and the service during rush hour when traffic increases. As long as the scheduling is done right, this idea can definitely work out.

Normal traffic delays during rush-hour are normal-sure. But like I said,to & from the beach is unpredictable at anytime esp. with the drawbridge opening & closing. Besides-I don't think N73/74 riders would like sitting on sandy seats-lol.

  11. The new NICE schedules are made of recycled paper I think as well.

Nope. Ridership has not increased on the route north of Freeport and many don't even want to take it because it goes to Freeport. The N87 is better off going bye-bye and the 73/74 being extended to Jones Beach. Save money (less buses on the road), and merge ridership between the two routes. I've suggested that to NICE for months.

It may seem like a 73/74 extension to JB is a good idea, but isn't. With the unpredictable traffic on the parkway & the drawbridge opening, in addition to various concerts & other events at JB, the potential delays would screw up the reliability of the rest of the route north of Wantagh.

  12. Instead of sending an empty bus down the Wantagh Parkway, it'll go to Freeport and pick up more passengers. Sound's like a fair compromise.

Wait until all the nimby teenagers from Levittown & East Meadow that ride the N87 find out that they have to go by way of Freeport to pickup & mix with some of the low-lifes coming off the train from the city. They won't be riding that bus anymore.

  13. I really don't think it's called "Macy's Shopping Center" as Macy's would probably be more than happy to call it that.  It is confusing I do believe it is two different shopping centers right next to each other and probably called many things over the years...

It's called Commack Plaza, which is where Vets Hwy intersects Jericho Tpk. The Mayfair Shopping Ctr is east of Indian Head Rd on Jericho Tpk.

  14. Today, after Citizen Defending Library meeting in Brooklyn Heights' Cadmen Tower, I took (C) EXP to Penn Station, show MetroCard on Ronkonhoma to Woodside.

When I boarded LGA-bound Q70 #4025 at 19:48, Q70 didn't turn at 75th St and male driver on Q70 went on Q33 route because of accident on BQE.

Also this morning, when I got M60 SBS ticket at Terminal C,nice male driver on Morningside Heights-bound M60SBS 5976 was very nice and at 81st St Station, 77th St, Steinway, 31st Sts.

What's the alternate routing when there's a problem on the BQE?
