  1. NICE really needs to get its act together with its infrequent service on very busy lines and with its severe bus bunching problems.

Have you ridden the N4 line on weekends?  Saturdays you wait up to 30 minutes at Jamaica and/or Freeport, then 2 buses leave within a minute of each other.  On Sundays you get the joy of waiting up to 40 minutes for 2 buses that leave back-to-back.  Happens just about every weekend.  It doesn't appear that NICE is taking the severe bus-bunching issue seriously.

Weekdays, the N22/N24 are chronically late.  It makes sense they're late when you have an extremely long route - from Jamaica all the way to Hicksville.  They should run N24's from Jamaica to Roosevelt Field only, and perhaps the N22's from Jamaica to Hicksville.  And increase the service on both the N22 and N24 since those are both very busy lines and you need reliable increased service everywhere along the route (Jamaica to Hicksville).  People wait 30+ minutes for *any bus at all* from Roosevelt Field to Hicksville, then see both the N22 and N24 show up at the exact same time.  Major bus bunching again.

Not enough running time, insufficient recovery time, lots of new inexperienced drivers=NICE sucks.

  2. I got to put this rant out there. The fareboxes are still messed up. My NEW Easypay card that I got just last weekend wouldn't work on 2 buses today, along with one on Saturday. I almost thought that NICE damaged my card again, but then it started working on the 2 buses I took home. Also saw what appeared to be a 1700 or 1800 NG broke down on Old Country in front of the Source Mall. And what makes it worse are the jerk drivers who act like I need to pay when it says READ ERROR. It's not like I'm putting a card in that has no money on it, it gets deducted from my bank account once a month, and surely don't have any extra $$ to put into the farebox. From now on I'm standing my ground, let him throw me off the bus. No wonder drivers are getting beat up, and it's a shame too because it's the good ones that are getting beat up because of these jerk drivers. But I aint takin' no crap over the Read Errors anymore. I dont even want to give this operation my money, esp a cash fare which all goes to NICE. It's a freakin' joke. NICE sucks. I honestly don't feel like setting foot on these shitboxes on wheels ever again!

You have to understand that every driver doesn't know you, & whether it's the farebox or your card that's faulty. You'd be surprised how many people deliberately scratch up their card or pickup used ones they find laying around that have no value, & then try to bullshit you into  believing the card is good.

Don't waste your time. You're better off driving a school bus.

  4. I'm glad someone else notices it, he does it all the time and it's annoying. The reason why they should provide more bus service to an area is because demand is increasing, or there is overcrowding and pass-ups, not because "there are a lot of poor people without cars". He has an articulation problem.

Even when he goes to meetings, instead of voicing the issues with bus service, or why service needs to be improved in a civilized manner, he yells "you treat us like second class citizens, you don't care about us lowly bus riders, there are a lot of super duper poor people that need the bus, they can't afford cars and they need the bus to get to social services, and there are tons of illegals that need to get to their job for the day, who else is going to cut your lawns in the summer? and the rest are super ghetto gang members that tag the buses and low life clientele that beat up on bus drivers and don't call the police if they're not the perp".  Great way to paint an image and make them want to improve funding and service  .

    Obviously the truth hurts.

  5. Someone at NICE went to school for marketing (or at least took a marketing class) making class lol...  Using  contracted service on social media to make them look like a good Samaritan on social media..  "Genius!" lol

Damn, I wanna drive that bus..

So this bus was actually in service?   Taking passengers?

That would be pretty good considering it has no farebox & most of the seats are missing.

  6. Some neighborhood in staten island. Right next to the big piece of land. It's last stop is pointless...only serves a training facility, gym, car dealer, and the entrance to the dump.

The Carteret Ferry used to run from the end of Victory Blvd in Travis(discontinued in the 1960's).

  7. I mean, the point is to reduce deadhead cost, however it also provides later service in that area then the S40 currently provides, also provide some sort of service along the S57/S59 route after it stops running (connecting from areas like the Sun Vet Mall, and points south).

Anyways, in an effort to provide evening service to some of the SCT system, I would add service (weekdays only) on the following routes

    S1:

A 10:15 PM trip from Amityville R.R, running to Huntington R.R only would be added (arriving at 11:10 PM)

A 10:15 PM trip from Halesite would be added, arriving at Amityville at 11:20 PM

A 11:35 PM trip from Huntington R.R would added, running as far as Ritter Avenue (service south would be On Request only)

    S23:

A  9:10 PM trip from Babylon R.R would be added, running only as far as Wydanch R.R Station

    S29

A 8:30 PM trip would be added from Babylon R.R going as far as the Deer Park Town Line. This trip would go back to Babylon at 8:50 PM.

I have some other suggestions, but I'll stop here for now.

I always wondered why those last n/b S29 trips went only to the town line. Seems like a strange place to end a trip. Does anyone know how they turn around from there?

The S1 should be extended to Montauk Hwy to connect with the N19. Either that or the N19 should divert to Amityville RR.

  8. 10:09 n20 Flushing #1761 got stuck on Sanford Avenue when trailer truck with flat bed got stuck on icy snow and also double park illegal truck without USDOT #s caused our driver 40 minutes late (plus Flushing parade detour).

They made mistake with NICE Service Alert and n20 bus stop was moved to Northern Blvd/Main St.

    It was so crazy.

As n20 Flushing was going north on Bowne St, n20 riders were looking for bus because previous stop was with Q12 bus.

After that, I helped at Roosevelt Av/Main St to assist passengers with detour.

I helped one elderly disabled lady get to Northern Blvd/Bowne St bus stop.

If the MTA was still running Long Is Bus,they would have had the N20/21 picking up at Bowne & 41 Ave, like they did in the past. They also would have signage at regular stop directing pass. there.

  9. Man......

why is he/she B/O stopping someone from talking on the phone? Its her phone...she spends her money on her phone, she can talk as freely as she wants. B/Os be trippin sometimes. I can understand if she was super loud and the B/O wanted her to lower her voice, but as long as im not making loud noise, littering, smoking, spiting, vandalizing, or being rude on the bus, then dont bother me or tell me what to do.

As for putting the bus OOS, are you crazy? Why would you want that? Only time a B/O could/should put a bus OOS is if theres a problem with the bus itself, crazy passenger, or some substance thats affecting everyone on the bus. I would hate for a B/O to put a bus OOS, especially in weather like this, and you know how inconvient that would be? Hell, someone vomited all in the last row of a B36 bus one day, whole bus smelled like vomit, and although it was a substance that affected everyone on the bus, he kept it in service till the end of the route since it was packed and he was running late.

I've had people crap on the bus, but since it was a good runner,I just opened some windows & kept going.

  10. Problem is the n27 got overcrowded from transfers at Greenvale, the 3pm trip from RF got hammerred at Greenvale at that time with SRO all the way to Glen Cove. Remember the n27 is hourly middays. When the n21 does run rush hours it should only be hourly. First trip out of Flushing was 4pm and it was jammed all the way to Glen Cove, but the next one 30 min later fairly empty, often they got bunched up because of this. So start the n21 at 3pm but run it only every hour till 8pm. The last trip was 6pm out of Flushing which was way too early. I'd have the trips leave Flushing at 3pm,4pm,5pm,6pm,7pm, out of Glen Cove 4pm,5pm,6pm,7pm (ok 8 is pushing it). Another idea is to just restore 30 min service on the n27 middays or start it earlier, it would carry more than the n21 in Glen Cove for sure.

The N21 would do better if it was extended further east in Glen Cove up Forest Ave instead of ending by the police station in the ghetto part of town. It could continue to Locust Valley, terminating at the train station.

  11. Other than minor time & layover adjustments-here are some of the changes:

N15: Sun. service returns to 20 min. off-peak headway & weekday midday.

N6: Most weekday trip times revamped esp. N6X.

N19: Later r/t added Sun. for store closing time.

N20: Extensive running time & recovery adjustments weekday & Sat.

N22: Weekday rush hour service rebuilt & N22L eliminated.

N23: Trips revamped all day & later rush hour trip from Mineola.

N27: Added later rush hour trip from Hemp. & Sat. & Sun. service extended back to Roos. Field.

N43: Established 20 min. n/b headways in AM.

N79: Buses will enter Walt Whitman Mall from Rt. 110.

  12. Not trying to bash or anything but I wonder why this is considered more helpful and informative than my n21 post...

    Exactly. Thanks for acknowledging that.

Btw, since like I said earlier we're talking to Transdev *again* in February or March about those too-tight-schedules, is there anything else I can bring to the table? We're not focussing on improving NICE since that's out of our league (except for those too-tight-schedules because that's a general Transdev thing which also happens to be a problem at NICE), but hey, since we're there anyway I can always bring something up or at least drop off a short note with some of your concerns :)

    Transdev sucks.

  13. It not just only me, Pinepower or Hound. There's lots of anti-NICE drivers as who wants (MTA) back. When I was doing petitioning on my friend's bus, there's lots of former LIB don't like their schedules. For instant once n20/n21 arrives at Flushing, they only have 5 minutes late over.

Also, there's no way bus could make in 7 minutes between Roosevelt Field and Jay Court.

That's most of complaints some LIB/NICE drivers complaints.

We also meet with on of schedulers, average guy who used to do LIB schedules, and he even didn't like the way NICE was doing schedule, even he's tried his best trying to make it flexible for bus operator.

Saturday night, NY Islanders and enermy team taking n70/n71/n72 buses were not  happy taking the bus. One of female Islanders told me, n70/n71/n72 buses are always late every single day.

    NICE sucks.
