  1. to me, having LEDs on Flushing's 62s is the MTA giving people more of a reason to have the MTA "Hold their hand" when riding. like for instance, how many times have we seen a GO poster on every pillar and no one pays attention, then wanna yell at an employee when they cant figure out why their train is rerouted. passengers use to pay attention back in the day. now they expect everything handed to them IMHO.

and thank you for the info!

  2. excellet work!!! I tried this with the LCD and LED subway signs a while back and it truly is hard work! much props!
  3. how would one submit a possible design concept? To NYCT or Kawasaki? I would think NYCT? does anyone know the exact answer?
  4. R179??? are they being designed yet? If they are who's designing them? New Car Engineering?
  5. Huguenot? that wasnt known to me. thanx!
  6. Nice pics. someone was asking about destination signs on SIR in another thread and i gave them a rundown. i cant remember if i listed that ST. George Exp sign though. i know i mentioned the Tottenville exp though. would you happen to have a pic of the Ballpark destination sign? that one ive never seen
  7. From what i understand, MTA/Staten Island Railway is its official public name. SIRT is its internal name and rail buffs still call it SIRTOA
  8. Cab signaling pick-up bars on the lead trucks, no side destination signs and untill recently, grab irons on the exterior next to each door and under the cab windows. the bars under the cab windows remain but next to the doors have been removed.
  9. its pretty cool. i was on it alot this past year. i would call it a mini-railroad. its like riding on a LIRR branch line with NYCT subway cars!
  10. SIr is actually a "Class IA" Railroad. Since its not connected Physically to the rest of the National railroad network, its Cars are exempt from some of the features required for railcars on a railroad. Like ditch lights, extra headlights on the top front.
  11. The 2 front plates in front of the lead trucks are "pick-up bars" like the ones used on Metro-North Railroad for cab signaling. SIR runs on a similar signal system along with wayside signals
  12. Ive ridden SIR trains recently. There are no side signs. the front scroll signs on their R44's have the destination on them where NYCT's route signs are. N/B's have St. George, St. George Express or Ballpark and S/B's have Tottenville, Tottenville Express or Great Kills. At St. George, at each entrance to the platforms are signs that display the departing trains destination and operation(express or local). since the N/B end of the train will have St. George displayed. With its limited service patters the need for a side sign is not really nessesary.
