  1. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for breakdowns, and lack of buses, as the new Hybrids will be needing alot of TLC. I can see many teething problems, with this unnecessary crap in these buses. If MTA was smart, they would have ordered Orion Vs for the areas that have hill problems for hybrids (with the Cummins of course), and ordered NG hybrids for places that can handle them. But no, they have to be the MTA............

I agree. They need to order one last batch of Orion V's, but that will never happen. Cummins and John Deere are the only options now anyway.

  2. shit just like other transit companies have.

Our O7 NG's will be unique. They have options never before seen on a line haul transit bus, unlike any other NG operator. These buses will basicly be custom made for MTA.

  3. Thats what some people thought but we don't know. Most are thinking that 3800 is brand new.

Yep, it's brand new and has a revised rear end with a raiser. There was a lot of talk at the roadeo about it being built to MTA specs or not. I think it was built to (demo specs). We may see pull cords on the new buses.

  4. Then the MTA is screwed BIG TIME!!!!

LOL... They want too many options on this bus! For God's sake, I've never known for any bus other than a OTR (MCI) coach to have a rear raiser. But I do think it will be a great bus once it goes into final production.

  5. Then if true this is just another demo bus, maybe (if true) that is why MTA is testing this Gillig. Full size tires = better ground clearance, and maybe since Orion can't be on time (running on black peoples times (this is another shot at you the poster Orion also B):P:p), they decided to checkout Gillig. If Orion can't be on time, then it seems someone is breaking contract rules to get buses built properly on time. That 700-800 bus order from Orion, might be cut........

But don't forget that thanks to MTA the rear end of the bus has been redesigned. This is a new option, that so far is exclusively for the TA. The order won't be cut, and Orion is doing everything possible to make sure MTA has the best O7 NG's on the road.

  6. Then it might just be the real "3800".

The one thats here might not be our real 3800. Now, it will go back to Orion, and probably get the changes done and send it back to the MTA. If not, Orion is going to build the real 3800.

    Gotcha.

  7. Yup, that is correct. Some people pointed it out right from the moment they arrived at the roadeo when they saw pull cords on the bus, I know I noticed that QUICKLY. Now, there were quite a few other things pointed, mainly by Trevor Logan when he took a look at the bus. The bars on the back doors, the schedule racks, the grey walls, the exterior side LED lights, the interior LED lights, and the mirrors, all not MTA specs. Almost everything else was fine. Now, another things, had North Carolina plates in the back, another immediate giveaway. Also, for it to be in service, it must have a license plate in the front I heard, which it didn't have. So, what does that mean, the bus has not been in service.

And the other "supposedly* buses that are here, 3801, and 3805, doesn't exist in New York City! I knew it from day one.

Right, thats still confusing to me, but 3800 is supposed to be a production demo. What if it is built to MTA Specs????

  8. Thats an interesting selection, I'm surprised they didn't put Manhattanville in there since I heard at one point the (MTA) wanted that depot to become an all hybrid depot.

Now remember we are dealing with the MTA, so this is subject to change at any time. Manhattanville is supposed to get some because they have the oldest hybrids, but I don't think they will untill 2010. Delivery is sceduled for NYCT, MTAB, the the last back to NYCT.

  9. CS just got brand new buses so I would hope they would send them elsewhere. And that's the same thing I was thinking, Someone at the depot had to know prior to the buses arrival that they wouldn't fit through the wash.

There's a list of depots getting the buses? would you mind posting that.

They only have like 57. They could use a few more. The remainder of their local fleet is 12+ years old. I hope they spread them out over all 5 boroughs.

  10. Most likely they will move to Casey Stengel, who is on the list to receive a batch as well. Castleton is doing what they do best. Jacking up buses. They haven't even been here a week and need body work. But whoever was overseeing the testing at CAS should have already known the wash clearance. Is that not logical??

  11. Also, are these buses low floor hybrids or just regular low floor cngs like that of both Brooklyn and the Bronx?

Sorry I don't know for certain, but I don't know the terminology for ng or anything else.

NG stands for Next Generation. The buses are redesigned Orion VII's, which are low floors. I don't see MTA ordering any high floors again. LIB will take delivery of Orion VII NG CNG's next year. The Bronx and Brooklyn CNG depots may get some in 2010.

  12. Is it alright if I create a separate thread that will track the buses as they are delivered (ongoing roster) similar to what I did with the Orion VII.

Go right ahead man! You do it better anyway.

I'll be joining up with you guys that day to do some hunting.

I'll be doing some hunting these upcoming days also.

    Thats whats up!

  13. i'm not sure if i should believe or not. not until i get proof. i don't believe that it's at Staten Island. PROOF is what you gotta find, ENY

I know for a fact that 3800 is here according to a friend that works at Orion, and as far as the rest, that's the reason we are heading to SI this weekend. A B/O at Casleton said he has seen them, and he is a very reliable source, so I am inclined to believe him.

  14. So the buses are here! This Friday, Trevor Logan and Ray of TransitStuff along with myself will be going to get together Friday and get over to Staten Island to see these buses. Supposedly the 4300 MCI's will now be renumbered.

    Staten Island Division
