  1. What's the hold up with the R179s? We been talking about this order for about 5 years atleast. I thought they where coming next year (2014).

If you were around in the last 5 Years (as you claim), you would already been know what the hold up was....... (If you have been monitoring this thread or similar)

  2. All they pretty much did was change all the (3)'s to (4)'s...all the terminal names were still set as a (3).

But while on the (4) today (had to go downtown anyway), I noticed a set (1431-2-3-4-8) with an ad wrap for that new Windows 8 tablet. Wasn't a full wrap like the Swatch R142A, but basically the ad strip, and a huge ad on the lower half of the door.

I saw an R62 with the Win8 partial wrap, same for the R142.

  3. Ok Ok, Im sure Mr. TransitMan was joking or not, but who cares anyways.....

The point is, there are lots of crazy sh9t happening in the system... I remember once A homeless guy taking a sh9t in between the cars on the (1) train a while back -_-... The whole train was stinking like a$$.......... Someone actually crossed in between the cars after the men left, and got poop under his shoes...... Just another NYC Subway Classic...........

  4. Trust me, you don't want to be sticking your dick in anyone willing to have sex on the subway......

Leave the safe sex at your home or someone else place you know..

I've never seen couples having sex on the train (except photos), but surely have witness "folks" playings with themselves... Disgusting.. Looks like with lack of enforcement, these things are bond to continue to happen...

  5. There's about to be one less carrier in the US.

T-Mobile US, which is owned by Deutsche Telekom in Germany, has announced that it will acquire MetroPCS, the fifth-largest mobile carrier in the U.S.

The companies will be combined under the T-Mobile name. According to the company, the deal will result in a more products and deeper network coverage, which will include plans for a bigger LTE network.

"The new company will be the value leader in wireless with the scale, spectrum and financial and other resources to expand its geographic coverage, broaden choice among all types of customers and continue to innovate, especially around the next-generation LTE network," René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, said in a statement.

Deutsche Telekom's board unanimously approved the deal. MetroPCS shareholders will receive $1.5 billion in cash and 26 percent ownership in the combined company.

In March 2011, AT&T made a move to acquire T-Mobile US, the fourth-largest carrier in the U.S., from Deutsche Telekom, but the deal was ultimately rejected by the Department of Justice because of antitrust issues.

  6.

I've seen that Orion V almost every time I go out... What you guys probably saw was 6239... That's the one I've been seeing the most on the Bx2... Same B/O usually too... I also saw 6238 on the Bx1 a few times... Also seen an Orion VII on the Bx2 running around lately...

If you want a LFSA on the Bx1/2 You'll need to be pretty patient bro... About 97% of those routes are D60's but the LFSA has been popping up more lately...

There is like 2 to 4 LFSA on the Bx1/2. Its not hard to catch one. Depending on where you at.

  7. The (C) has already been ranked worst for four straight years, I am all for the R179s to go there.

Yeah... While the media has mentioned the R179s would be hitting the (C)... Maybe it was just to keep the riders shut with all the bs.. Makes me wonder, if the R46s will just be placed on the (C) permanently in the future. As others have mention, the (C) is is always stuck with the oldest rolling stock around. R10 > R32s > R46 next? (Forecast?! R68 > R160 > THEN R179 o_O...) To early to tell at this point tho =|....

  8.

If it is good, Next year they should put the R68A's on the (C) and the R32's on the (B), that would make better sense to me, I bet you would like an R68A on the (A) lol

Oh no. Dont mess with the 68s. Your gonna cause a heart attack to a "someone" :P.

But hey, anything freaky can occur in this system ya never know.

Don't say shit like that man, peeps gonna actually believe you lol.

Like if this has never happened :P...

  9. Why the heck do they need countdown clocks for the (S)? The train is always one station away!

Putting departure screens on the (S) platform for Metro North is a bad idea because then some people will think that the MN is going to stop on the (S) platform. And yes, I guarantee you that will happen. I've seen it all. I've already had people ask me if the MN stops on the Lexington Ave. platform at GC.

If you have a sign that says "For Metro-North, take the (S) to Grand Central Station", I'm sure that will ease the pain. (Not everyone)

The only reason why I brought this up, is to give commuters access to departures of a Metro-North train, and any delays involved.

  10.

If I see a screen with departures, I expect said departures to be at the station, not a train ride away.

    Maybe it's just me?

    Maybe it is just you.

Besides there are already count downs for the (S), just in case. A lot of commuters who use the (S) are also those who want Metro-North. So whats the problem with having a screen with departures? Besides tourist.

If I was in a hurry, and I didn't have a timetable on me, I would be happy to see a departure screen for MNCR trains leaving GCT at 42nd St (S). I'm sure others will be happy as well.

Its like, JFK (A) train station. They have Airline departures/arrivals screens. Your not even within the terminals, your still in the Howard Beach / JFK station, connecting to the Airtrain, which acts like a Shuttle train (with a cost).

  11. Plus the shuttle is a lot more frequent then MNRR during rush hour. (S) trains run every 2 minutes. Why have the departure times listed for a service that's every 15-30 minutes at most when the one at that station is every 2 minutes?

You cannot compare a Railroads schedule with a Subway's Schedule... Both have its ups and downs with frequency & service.. MNCR has 4 tracks along Park Avenue outside of GCT, which there are a lot of trains and routes entering/exiting the station at different times..

It would confuse the tourists, who would think that there is MNR at Times Square.

What does confusing tourist have to do with this? Besides 34th Street / NYP also has SOME tourist lurking the station. And when you come out of ether the IRT or IND Penn Station, you have screens up. So wouldn't that confuse them as well?

I'd rather see screens up at Times Square (S) platform at least have a screen. And if the tourist is confused, well let them be... Because a whole lot of them will be confused for anything around...

  12. Why do people have to push in at the last minute on the (S) and the (4)? Its annoying having to sit there and waste time while the doors bounce open and closed.

If your talking about the IRT (S). Your gonna see that a lot, people rushing to make a connection with MNCR (or coming from).

The (4)... Don't get me started, its another (2).. Ill take a (5) and (6) Thank You!

On another note, does anyone thing Times Square (S) platform should have Screen boards listing Metro-North Departures? I think it would make sense. Most of the IRT (S) riders are MNCR ones.

  13. This post is full of bias and foam. It's typical of railfans who want a particular car to go on a particular line to pretend that they know everything about what riders want, only for the sake of justifying their foamy dreams (to hear NTT announcements on the (6) in this case). As millions of people have said millions of times, the (2) and (5) need NTTs so they can switch routes at Flatbush without manually changing the signs. What do you know about why the (6) got R142As first? How did you hear that there was pressure from riders? You're completely overestimating (and pretending that you know everything about) the power of politics in car assignments.

Thats what the people in this community say.... But again as I've said before, don't be surprised if the (2) and/or (5) get the older cars back, REGARDLESS of swap being an issue. The (MTA) does what ever they want...

People keep saying its going on the (6) and then maybe the (4), yet we still haven't seen a swap and making conclusions fast. And even if the swap were to occur, who knows if its gonna stay like that or permanent.. Communities may burst, and will be curious for the swap. Just like how there was a news article back in July about the R32/R46 swap. The riders will have in impression. Some won't care, but there WILL be others who will care about it and be curious about this situation.

  14. I think you are the only person doubting that the R142As will come from the 2 4 5 or 6. I guarantee you, 100%, can stake your life on it, swear on the bible, and what not, that the R188s being converted from R142As will come from the 2 4 5 or 6. In fact, I'd say that you could make a pretty safe bet that they are coming from either the 4 or the 6. Taking it even further, At least some will be from the 6 as the 4 does not have enough cars to provide for them.

    You want hard proof?

Read any R188 document. There you go, Proof.

There is no R142A on the (2) / (5) unless your saying R142/A. But you make a good point!

  15. When I look at this thread or the random ones around, makes me feel like this is Facebook and Twitter :P

took Q44 yesterday...and the AC was blasting to the max. Even though the weather was gorgeous outside, the bus was traveling in arctic region...

    btw, I had a bus ride through hell...a.k.a Bx36...

Sometimes I just love to open up the window on the top side. A nicer air, unless the AC is on.

The Bx36 I've been avoiding... That route is hell with only 40 footers. Only see artics like 1 or 2x during the week. It needs artics badly...

  16. ok extend all 40 trips to 241 some to 233rd (2) then reroute select 42 hourly runs to bronxville via 52's route. Let 43 go to pelham (6) via 52's routing make 43 full time do away with 52. Then Extend Bx34 to mt vernon west RR station. Extend BX8 or 31 to empire via woodlawn and mclean ave. Off peak 43 will serve stew leonards. more on that in beeline thread.

This eliminates need to transfer to 42.

Bx35 extend to soundview morrison providing direct service to the (6) without transferring to the 27.

    1) The 40 doesn't need to go all the way down to 233rd / WPR. You got the 42. Besides its not as heavy compared to 241st (via the 42 to/from 233rd), that's where a lot of people would take the (2) / 42 combo. Tho, I will give you credit on sending the 40 bus to 241, instead of just Rush Hour (and that one bus around 10:30PM out of Valhalla to the Bronx via Elmsford SQ)

    2) This again... The 43........ The purpose of the 43X is to give EXPRESS service for those from Medical Center to Mount Vernon and Wakefield. If people want Pelham access, let them use 40/41 LTD to Eastchester Sq for the 45. Or extend the 45 to White Plains.

    3) The Bx31 is possible to have it run on Mclean Ave to Central Park Ave to at LEAST the Cross County (Ends) via Empire. This could relief the 20/21 service. The Bx8 is long enough, just have it head to 233rd as someone mentioned above.

    4) The Bx35 hmmmm..... Maybe extend it to Hunts Point, instead of the planned route creation coming this 2013.

  17. Makes sense.

It was either mine or GreatOne2k's.

    Wait. Which Bx25?

I don't see what overcrowding has to do with anything. If ridership in Yonkers is supposedly that low, that wouldn't add crowding to the buses. And in the earlier proposals, we were very clear that this would only apply to buses deadheading to Yonkers anyway.

Agreed. Besides the BxM3 doesn't even get crowded. The most is those using the (1) to/from w1/2 bus. The BxM1/2/18 would offer those on Riverdale Ave in Yonkers an alternative to using Metro-North at Ludlow St RR, Yonkers RR or the bus service. Doubt it would be packed anyways.

Either run the W40 to 241 St full time, or extend the Bx39 to Mt Vernon East MNRR. There were plans to run the Bx34 to Mt Vernon East MNRR at one time (early 90s).

I would just extend the w40. Usually the w40 would empty out and everyone is walking South 5th St just to hop on the 42, which of course gets crowded. Have it every hour service to/from Medical Center and IRT 241 with all other trips ending at Petrillo Plaza.
