  1. Express Bus Service to the city? Thats awesome! But are we talking about JUST to Queens or directly to Manhattan? Because this could cause somewhat a completion with LIRR.

     

    They're facing the same issues that just about every transit agency in the country is facing. Joel is so friggin' certain that things would be sooo much better under the (MTA).

     

    But don't you see, the (MTA) was going to cut half its routes during the year, and then completely shut down LIB in the future, due to lack of funds.

     

    NICE on the other hand, is going to continue service. However, I don't even know if these reduced service will even help out. I'm sure some cuts will have to occur in the future.

     

    Yeah, the (MTA) would of done better, if Nassau would pay up, but we can't do anything. All we gotta hope for is NICE will not become a major problem.

  2. By sending the Brooklyn D-trains to Whitehall Street, those D-trains pass through the Jay Street-MetroTech station where A and F train service is available (via the R-train station). That is how the MTA is "connecting" the parts of the D-train for this Fast-Track session.

  3. Not quite. While Queens does have significantly more rail service than Staten Island, there are vast areas of Queens that are far from the nearest railroad or subway station. Those areas deserve to have better, more convenient transit options just as much as SI does.

     

    There are no plans to turn the Rockaway Line into a High Line type of park. There is only a proposal from Queens Community Board 9 to do that. So there is no guarantee that will happen either. Restoring rail to the Rockaway Line is not just about providing another transit option to a casino, convention center and Kennedy Airport. It is also about providing better connectivity within Queens. Given the borough's significant increase in population over the years, much of it made up of transit-riding people, better connectivity is something that is sorely needed.

     

    You won't have any disagreement from me that SI needs more rail service. But that's for another topic...

     

    Well if Queens needs its service, I really doubt the MTA would extend service on its current subway lines. BRT would be needed to help out in ways. I would also consider restoring the Q79 bus, since people near the border don't have a way going up and down.

     

    For the Rockaway Line, as I mentioned before, maybe a light rail could do. I don't think the MTA would even extend the line to the QBL. Maybe a connection with the (J) / (Z) could do, but that I'm not sure.

  4. Those plans are no secret, but they very possibly could be overriden by other lawmakers who now also want that branch re-activated.

     

    If those lawmakers who want it re-activated get what they want (and it's something Gov. Cuomo may also want, especially if he can get Genting to pay for it), then everything changes on that end and it may very well have a ripple effect of what happens with the Broadway Line and SAS once the first part of the SAS actually opens. There was quite a discussion on this in another thread that got merged with this one.

     

    Forget that crap, Queens has a lot of service around. While there are undeserved areas, no need to focus on that yet. I would rather bring Staten Island to the table with some rail. WHICH is REALLY undeserved. The SIRTOA only runs up and down, but those in other parts of the SI, only got Buses around, no rail, not even a LIGHT RAIL.

     

    Extend the HBLR and activate the North Shore Line.

  5. I don't understand why send the (D) to Whitehall Street via Montague Tunnel, instead of having it end at 42nd Street via Bridge............ If its because of the (Q) coming out of 21st Street, so what? Have it switch to the Local at 57th Street, and back to the Express at Prince St. Instead of having (D) customers use alternative connection between Brooklyn & Manhattan.

  6. Before the Convention Center was in play, I would have agreed, but things have changed, especially if Gov. Cuomo wants such a connection and he were to convince Genting to pay for it, which I do see as an alternative to what Genting really seems to want as I understand it, but has no chance in getting and that being essentially a (JFK) revival on the (A) because that would severely disrupt the Fulton Street branch in Brooklyn too much.

     

    That's why I listed BOTH scenarios.

     

    There is plans to convert the line into a park, just like the High Line, NOT a rail.

     

    Maybe a LRT would be nice, but even that I wouldn't see.

  8. Culver is an el so they can't do it. Brighton just underwent a rehab. Nostrand-what's the alternate?

     

    Why wouldn't fastrack work on an EL? I'm sure Fastrak is not only meant for tunnels only.

     

    For the Nostrands, you have the bus as an alternative, and shuttle bus service. There have been G/Os in the past with Nostrand service suspended. (2) to Utica as well.

  9. Might be because the BMT 60th Street tunnel would block access to the street level. Besides, people can use 59th Street IRT/BMT Station or 63rd St instead. For those going down 2nd Avenue, use the +SBS/Local M15 or walk.

     

    As for when anything below 72nd Street would open, its unknown at this point. We still stuck on Phase I.

  10. I think that in a 4 tracks subway system at least 1 track must be open 24 hours !!!

     

    Yeah... Maybe the 42nd street Shuttle, but along normal routes, i don't think so...

     

    The ONLY thing I can thing of that could allow Subway service to continue, is if they had 2 trackways open (Local / Express), and the track one would wrong rail on the Exp track. the 2 side tracks would be out of service. But this won't happen, because the MTA prefers to fix up the entire 4 tracks.

    The Second Avenue Subway extension as far as 96th Street MAY happen, and even if everything sticks to plan it will be AT LEAST 5 years until then.

     

    An extension further to 125th Street is HIGHLY UNLIKELY due to LACK OF MONEY. It may possibly happen in our lifetimes, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    The (T) train will NEVER, I repeat NEVER come into existence before we die.

    There will be no T train to Hanover Square

    No extension into Brooklyn

    No sending it up to the Bronx

    The (W)MAY come back into existence, but none of us know or will our opinions have ANY impact on the MTA's decision. Remember, this is assuming that they actually do complete the Second Avenue Subway up to 96th Street, and like I previously said, it will be AT LEAST 5 YEARS if the MTA sticks to their schedule, which they previously have not. If they had stuck to their schedule, it would be opening up in a few months, but it's not.

    Everyone can FORGET the (W). Its UNKNOWN if it ill come back. It could but UNKNOWN. (W) was cut because of budget, NOT related to the SAS or anything.

     

    The (V) I don't see coming back, the (M) is doing a good job, I have no problems with it (Don't care for orange (M) haters ether).

     

    For the (T) i don't see a future for a WHILE, it ill likely come in when we are all dead, if it does. Remember Phase I isn't even finished, and god knows if 2016 will be the finish line.

     

    As i said before, I don't care about any extensions, all I care about is the IRT Lexington Avenue Line as well as buses in the east getting a relief from crowd and having the SAS do most of the work.

     

    If none of you want to deal with problems, then just don't bring anything to the table and keep it on topic. sheeh

    (W) runs local from Whitehall Street-Rockaway Park using the Queens Boulevard-Rockaway connection (and obviously replacing the (R) on Queens Boulevard to 63rd Drive) with stops at Aqueduct and Howard Beach-JFK. This also eliminates the Rockaway Park (S) since the (W) would be a 24/7 line.

     

    (G) returns to running to 71st-Continental, but on weekdays the (G) and (M) would both during rush hours go with the (F) to 179th (while the (F) ran express at those times all the way on QB) in order to prevent backups at 71-Continental.[/color][/size][/font]

  13. Can't cut Sea Beach service. What you might see is this (similar to Mike Gerald's solution):

     

    (Q) Coney Island to 96th/125th. Express 57-Canal and over the bridge.

    (R) Forest Hills to Whitehall. Local Queens/Manhattan. No night service.

    (W) Coney Island to 96/125th. Express 57-Canal and over the bridge. Nights shuttle to 36th.

    (N) Astoria to Bay Ridge. Local. All times.

     

    Remember, letters really dont mean anything, just placeholders. Of all the services, the (R) runs the least (since the (M) is in Queens too) and can be turned at Whitehall. The Bay Ridge service can then be boosted to provide adequate service to both Astoria and 4Av as the only local in Brooklyn and the only thing up at Astoria. I don't want to hear about "Oh Sea Beach want direct Manhattan service at night..." I operate the (N) often, there is NOBODY out there until I get to 8 Av. A handful at New Utretcht, and thats it.

     

    (W) via 2nd Avenue?

     

    I would just have the (W) run local from Astoria to Whitehall, extended to 9th or Bay Parkway in place of the former brown (Mx) in South Brooklyn to help the (D)(R) out.

     

    But I get what you mean. Even tho the passengers may not please these changes. For a short time...

  14. It was as I said in prior threads, that NEC line screams MNR, not a subway. Not everything has to be a SUBWAY. Most of the Lex congestion comes from the BRP on westward (there's enough service east of Parkchester to meet demand, and NEC doesn't help "express bus ville" as the line stays heading northeasterly. It's nice to help out the (6), but Co-op would rather speed to Manhattan, and they will pay for it, than just a direct line and a discount). They've paid for express buses for decades, they can afford MNR to get them downtown way faster than a direct subway ever can. Remember the original goal of the SAS which was to improve access of ALL the Lex lines, not just a couple communities near the (6) andd perhaps the (5) (the latter which has no ridership problems at all).

     

    A line extended up 3Av or Park Av (to at least Fordham) will assist the (2)(4)(5)(6)(D)(:( and will solve problems on each of those lines.

    The NEC begins to leave the (6) north of Westchester Avenue (IRT Whitlock) by a few and more blocks. This doesn't serve anyone south of the (6). I HIGHLY doubt a subway would even end up on that structure, especially with Metro-North already planned for that. No need for a Subway to run on the Corridor.

     

    I'd rather see the 2nd Avenue Subway head along 3rd Avenue, to help out in that area. But thats yearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs from now. For now im just worried about whats going on to help relief those on the IRT Lex Line.

  15. For the (W) coming back. Just hold up on that. IT COULD, but no one is saying it WILL. So chances are flat. Just saying this, because then it ill end up into a rumor (like it is now) and then lead to problems.

     

    For the (T), that wont even come in until at least Phase 3 of the 2nd Avenue Subway, which god knows when that ill happen.

    I sort of agree here. I like the R32s and the old cars, but its not about what we want, its about making the riders feel happy and safe..

     

    Plus so all these railfans can stop fighting over old vs new already. << This gets annoying!

  17. This should of been posted in the other NYC Subway forum, since its news pretty much.

     

    But going back. Hopefully this completes WITHOUT a problem. Im not caring about any extensions to the Bronx or Brooklyn at this time. Rather focus on helping to get the IRT Lexington Avenue Line a bit of relief. At least up 96th Street.

  18. By the way, Amtrak does not use all of its right-of-way. There's room for 6 tracks in the Bronx, but it has been reduced to 2 tracks. What do you do with the space for 4 more tracks? Work things out, and the subway will come really cheap—possibly cheaper than light rail. Of course, not every place has extra space just to plop a subway on top of. The Bronx just so happens to have this.

     

     

    There are 3-4 tracks on the NEC(Bronx), its all used by freight service as I mentioned.

     

    And if a Subway is built along the Corridor, it is subject to FRA. If a connection occurs. Not sure.

  19. Unless it's within walking distance then it isn't exactly subway service IMO and the areas that I mentioned fall into those lines.

    Now? No way, Been a Bronx resident for years now lol. I thought you were from SI? But im good since I have service all over. But it sucks that those around the Bronx have no Subway access. Only Bus and the Rails.(Except Parkchester through Throgs Neck.)

  20. I hate to point it out, but I don't think you get it. A light rail is light rail only if it has it's own ROW. HBLR is a light rail because it has it's own ROW. If it doesn't that it would be a streetcar, and the HBLR isn't a streetcar.

     

    HBLR still shares some of the ROW with freight lines, if im correct. Within Bayonne. Same for Newark Light rail sharing Norfolk tracks.

     

    But you do have it right. SEPTAs Trolly Lines are not even a Light Rail Line, just Street cars which has little of its own ROW, and the Subway.

  21. An expansion for the 2nd Avenue Subway to the Bx or Bk, I DON'T see for a very long time. The way finance is these days, not possible. Plus the MTA would have to go through the communities and see if things will work out. Those on 2nd Avenue are pissed off over the building of the Line, due to health concern and noise. But im sure they will ACCEPT it once its done.

     

    The 2nd Avenue Line via Hell Gate/NEC Line, isn't a bad idea, but then the (Q)(T) line maybe be subjected to FRA. That line is owned by Amtrak, so the MTA can't just go and do what it wants. Plus the media has to remember that there is Fright service on that line sometimes, which use the un-electrified tracks, coming out of Oak Point Yard and Hunts Point, the Bronx.

     

    TBH, the MTA shouldn't worry much about the Bronx, as we can handle it. Maybe Metro-North service along the NEC will do.

     

    Staten Island NEEDs some support here. People only have the SIRTOA (1 Line) and Local bus via Ferry to get to Manhattan. Other options is the S53/79/98 via the (R), Express Bus service or car. The MTA President, thinks SBS will solve all this. Not entirely, since people will still have a longer commute to get to Manhattan. Unless he can come up with a plan to allow SBS to run via I95/NJ495 combo or I278 directly to Manhattan out of SI, without paying a premium for Express Bus service. Or an extension of the SIRTOA into Brooklyn

     

    I would prefer also seeing the extension of the NJT HBLR into SI, rather then making the S89 a Select Bus..

     

     

    I'm just stating a simple fact... Aside from that those areas aren't densely populated either, so they don't need a subway. Areas like Throgs Neck, City Island, Country Club and Riverdale just do fine without a subway.

     

    We do have service, even tho there ARE spots in the Bronx under served and replaced by Bus Service.

     

    No Subway Service in:

     

    -Riverdale or Spuyten area of the Bronx (Except the (1) via Bus, or Metro-North Hudson. The Hudson Line for those areas is used higher compared to those on the Park Avenue Mainline (excluding Fordham). )

    -Along Webster and 3rd Avenue. (Alternatives would be the Bus and/or to the Concourse, Jerome and White Plains Road Line or Metro-North, but ridership isn't to high)

    -Co-op City, Throgs Neck, Locus Point, Country Club. (Requires Bus service and/or to the Pelham Line)

    -Going Crosstown in the Bronx requires Bus Service or and/or Bx12+Select.
