  1. Don't worry, guys. I know I am required to know how to operate whatever is assigned to me, personal preferences nonwithstanding. It's my job, not a hobby. We did cuts and adds on the 160s yesterday. Those barrier spring compartments are a pain in the ass.
  2. R160 dissection today. Don't think I'm gonna be a fan of them; we'll see how I feel after I operate one a few times.
  3. Correct. If it was going towards Coney, that was me at the helm. Today was good too. Took an R68A from Concourse to Euclid; I piloted into the relay (where the 10 car marker is nowhere to be found, but there is a 4 car one. Go figure). Overshot my first station stop, but got the hang of it and was 9/10 the rest of the day on them.
  4. Took an R68 on a joyride from Coney to Concourse. I operated from 125 St to 167. It was great. My Instructors were pleased with my operation. I also got to live a childhood dream. I operated over the West End from 18 Av to Stillwell Terminal. I feel like a little kid.
  5. Much better day today; we practiced some more cutting and adding, and more signals. Tomorrow we're going for a joyride. There goes the BMT......
  6. You guys had a better Friday than I did. We worked on cuts and adds, I was a little rough. Didn't have my 'A' game; totally my fault. Practice makes perfect......
  7. We did further dissection of the R68 and R68A; we learned about the circuitry. And we did other-than-front-end-train-operation. I'm pleased to report everyone still had clean underwear afterwards.
  8. The only one in the system, according to my Instructor today. We got to see it in person today, and learned how to do cuts and adds on the R68As. The ride home was interesting. Signal problems at 14th and 8th brought the A and E downstairs at W 4 St, F via D on the West End to Manhattan, and my D went Express on the West End (haven't had a ride like that on the El since I was a kid).
  9. Today we dissected an R68 in the yard, going over the ins and outs, and how to inspect it for service. Also learned how to do door cuts. Tomorrow we go up to the Concourse for the next 3 days.
  10. Got to fire up an R-68 today, and we took it up and down yard tracks to get a feel for it. And there was much rejoicing.
  11. And that was the point. The class was EXCELLENT. The Instructor did a great job, and I think everyone had a very sobering experience in regards to fire, and overall safety on the job. He told some stories that, in my opinion, shook some people to the core, based on my observation of reaction from the class. Very knowledgeable about the topics, and the evacuation simulation was great.
  12. We tunnel-walked from JYD to 75 Av today. Nothing major. Had a signals quiz, and went over track and switch components in the Yard. Tomorrow afternoon is Fire School at Coney.
  13. Oh, we did Signals today, alright. 8 hours worth. It was a good time though. We report to Jamaica in the AM; tunnel walk amongst other things.
  14. Simulator was fun; we didn't get a lot of time in it since we spent a majority of the day going over signals, switches, and track scenarios. The TSSs at the Simulator were great; they went over all the signals with us. I managed, after pulling into the station, to pull the lever too far back and put the train in BIE instead of full service. Oops. I read the signal pamphlet every night, 1/2 hour minimum. As we see them in class, it will become muscle memory. We have a good group; we help each other out with things, and are laid back. Our TSSs are great. We're back at Coney tomorrow.
  15. Today we reported to Coney Island Yard for the first day of the real stuff (for lack of a better term). We went over basic signals, and built up from there, discussing home balls, dwarves, and other stuff. We got Track Qualified; we walked the tracks and up onto the El from the Yard Lead. Also took a tour of the Yard and went out on the Veranda on the Yard Tower. Nice view during the day. Tomorrow we go to 130 Livingston and pretend operate a la Simulator.
  16. I had no paycheck issues, except that no pension or 457 desuctions. We got our radios and boots Wednesday. The real stuff starts Monday; we report to Coney in the morning.
  17. EDIT: Part 2 of my uniforms came, including my winter coat. Just the Trooper hat is too small. Got a hold of the company and arranged the return and exchange. It was rather painless.
  18. I'm not going to fret about the jacket (yet). I hope the second package comes tomorrow with the rest of the crap, and the delivery note so I can send it back.
  19. HPV is the Human Paploma Virus. Hepatitis C ruins the liver badly, and is spread quicker than AIDS. The chances of getting HIV/AIDS from a needlestick is less than 3%. Sidebar.....got my uniforms. Shirt and pants fit, jackets don't. I told the person measuring me to order long; she said "Oh, they'll base it off my measurements." Why listen to the person who knows their size? It was the first package of 2 today; I hope the return label comes in the second package; all I got was a receipt.
  20. B-Division did the Right-To-Know and Biohazard stuff. I'm gonna get a hold of them; some of the Biohazard stuff is outdated, and they don't even mention Hepatitis C. We also got our schedules today. The real stuff starts Monday.
  21. Considering you are the one who initially hijacked the thread, your opinion is being ignored.
  22. Today, we did our didactic part of Track Safety and Certification, and got our Track Safety cards. Did some Rule Book readings also. Wednesday we'll be going for our boots and radios. Got my John's Deli fix; roast beef + mozz + gravy = YUM. RANT SECTION: I started this thread to tell about Schoolcar for all of those who are going to ask the same questions over and over again without actually reading. No, seriously, I started it to show people what it's like. I did NOT start it to have people hijack it. Personally, I don't care, and I'm not taking sides. If you want to fight and bash, go meet at the flagpole after school. Not here, please. [/RANT]
  23. Final day of the week, we started at P.S. 248. We got all of our tools. And books. And they weigh more than most midgets.
  24. Today was the end of the Livingston St. experience. The Union came in, and talked to us right up to lunch, along with a supplemental benefits guy. After lunch, we got our class assignments, and also sat through the ADA Stuff. We start at P.S. 248 tomorrow at 0730 hrs. 361. P.S. Thanks to the mod, whoever you are, for changing my status. Just noticed it.
