  1. To be honest, the R32s are about as old as the R68s. Almost nothing on them besides the frame itself lasted through GOH. I personally think it was a mistake to consider their age as the day the frames and bodies were initially constructed, when the mechanics of the cars date to 1987-1990. The same holds for the R46s.
  2. Kawasaki, Alstom, Bombardier, and Rotem are the 4 potential choices. I don't believe any other groups have expressed interest, although such could have changed. That said, as Kawasaki owns the engineering to New Tech 60 foot cars, I suspect they will get the order, as the other firms would have to spend substantial money and time on design. Time and Money that the MTA has no desire to spend.
  3. A little clarity on R32 renumberings: Car 3669 was wrecked in Malbone II, scrapped, and its mate 3668 was renumbered 3669. This car remains in service on the C line. Car 3659 was burnt in the metropolitan avenue fire, heavily damaged, but not unrepairable. It was rebuilt with the phase II R32s (I believe as a spare, as its mate was already reassigned to another wrecks mate, and was soon used to replace the damaged 3620 which was discovered to have been bent in an unknown incident.   4. Well... Amtrak's oldest cars are roughly contemporary with 1575's redesign.
  5. I can only think of one system where cars R1-9 age are in service. Two if you count Amtrak.
  6. The C will remain 8 cars. However it will be extended to 600 feet.
  7. The MTA is not going to give a yard a mixed fleet if they don't have to. The 6 is most likely to recieve the R62As from the 7 because the R62As are already set up with modifications for 6 service, and the R62As from the 7 are similar in quantity to the R142As on the 6, so there can be a 1 for 1 swap. R62s have no problems running around loops, so I have no idea why anyone would think that is a problem. There would still be some R142As assigned to the 6, but that shouldn't be a problem. NO R142s have CBTC installed, so it shouldnt matter what group cars they send out. That said, I would expect them to either go from the top down, or lowest number up, when converting R142s to R188s.
  8. Also- Dual contract tunnels differed from line to line. The 7th Ave line would be substantially harder to convert for B division trains than the Lexington Ave Line would be.
  9. the 7 being 11 cars long is not a result of its BMT heritage. The BMT was only lengthened for 600 foot trains in the 1960s.
