  1. We don't need to wonder about what will be used for the CBTC conversion of Queens Boulevard. There is a reason that the already signed contracts with Thales and Siemens as part of the Queens Boulevard CBTC project includes the CBTC conversion of 309 sets of R160s.
  2. For this phase, South of 50th on D3/4, North of 47/50 on B1/2, Not sure about T1/2, although I rather expect it is at the split south of 36th street.
  3. The Canarsie shutdown is far from neutral with regards to car assignments. Being generous- Lets say that the cut L will be roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of the current L (24 trains). That gives you ~6-8 trains to assign elsewhere. 6-8 trains can easily be eaten up by the Eastern division. They also cannot be used much outside of the eastern division besides the C train. During the Canarsie shutdown, the G will run full length trains and the G will see an increase in frequency as well. Making the G full length on its own will take 65 60 foot car equivalents on its own before you add in whatever frequency increases the G will see. Furthermore, the 240 foot eastern division sets are absolutely useless for making 600 foot trains. R32s will be needed for this.(Although I don't see any need for them to specifically be on the G itself.) The SAS fleet plans were made when NYCT had a larger fleet prior to the 2010 cuts. Yes, you probably could have gotten away with running SAS with no additional cars if we still had 272 75 foot R44s instead of 272 60 foot R42/R32s. Opening it today without additional cars will make things very tight. It would surprise me very much if any R211 runs on the T any sooner than half way through the design life of the cars.
  4. The L train shutdown will INCREASE car requirements, not decrease them. The Second Avenue subway opening will also increase car requirements. The first date on the budget materials was July 2015, when an SMS cycle was added for the R32 fleet after the delivery of the R179 order.
  5. MTA Board materials and the upcoming 5 year plan.
  6. The "rumors" of R32s staying around are not rumors at all. They are facts. The R179 fleet will not retire most of the R32 fleet.
  7. Three tracks does absolutely nothing to increase capacity without a huge yard at each end.
  8. As most of the required additional capacity for the Canarsie Shutdown IS on the G, that is not a problem. They could also run elsewhere, displacing whatever cars are on a different line over to the G.
  9. 8th and 6th are the next two following Queens Boulevard
  10. Even if all the plans were settled at the moment, this would not necessarily mean cars are moving from the L to the G. I am not saying the following is happening, but say what happens is something along the lines of L R160s move to J, J R32s move to D, D R68s move to G. etc. The actual cars of the L wouldn't be going to the G, but the effective capacity of those cars would be, through the displacement of other cars. There is no need for the MTA to specify further as where each individual car is running does not matter to those reading the MTA press releases.
  11. The R179s will fulfill any need for 480 foot trains. This leads me to think they will be anywhere but the C or the Eastern division.
  12. CBTC converted sets can be run without CBTC. There is no reason to hold a set out of service if it is roadworthy and not being used for testing.
  13. CBTC is active on the L, all hours of the day. It has nothing to do with how many trains run per hour outside of the fact that you cannot operate above a small number without CBTC.
  14. You correctly identify why such cannot happen. Some waysides will remain but not all. Any R62As on the 7 would greatly reduce capacity once CBTC goes active.
  15. While I don't want to underestimate the amount of work the 116th street station will take, the old plans did have a center track at this location, so the tunnel is already rather wide there.
  16. The initial press release of the award to BBD years ago. Also, it is normal for builders to supply their own propulsion system (if they have one) unless others are specified.
  17. The R179s will feature Bombardier propulsion.
  18. I agree, but since that is only 4 trains of R179s (probably 3 considering the need for a spare factor) I said for the most part, they won't be on the A!
  19. A runs 600 foot trains. Nearly all of the R179s will be configured in 240 foot units. All but 40 of them are not able to run on the A without providing a service cut. There is almost no chance that the A will be reduced in length to 480 feet.
  20. The R42 fleet is the only remaining cartype which used Carbon steel for structural elements. Rust is not an issue which needs to be worried about in the future. But for the most part, R179s will not be on the A.
  21. That is an early artists conception. Final design is not done yet.
  22. Most of the current R32 fleet was assigned to Pitkin for most of the 90s until the R160 order started coming in. A few were from Jamaica. Almost all of them (if not all) were reassigned to Jamaica at some point during the R160 delivery process, but most of what was at Jamaica in the 1990s is at the bottom of the Atlantic now.
  23. Separate order. Something so substantially different being part of the same order has never happened with passenger equipment.
  24. Considering how long it took put to bid the SAS Phase 1 contracts, I think this new schedule may be more in the line of reality, regardless of the budget reasons behind it.
  25. Your mismatches are still slightly off. 3444-3777, 3468-3445, 3658-3471, and 3548-3593. I believe the rest are correct.
