  1. lol... When I was in my 20s I could eat whatever too and still stay slim. Of course in my teenage years I stayed in shape playing pickup hockey with the guys from Gerritsen Beach or Sheepshead Bay. Once you get an office job though it becomes tough especially if you're like me infront of a computer screen for hours on end. That's why watching what you eat becomes more important, plus at 30 now my metabolism has slowed slightly, so I watch what I eat and get as much exercise as I can now. I've been a size 36 waist since I was in high school and I'm determined to keep that same waist size until eternity. I'll let KR do the beer belly honors. lol

You want to hear my waist line size? 28 ! And I lost weight...last year I weighed in @145 and now I weigh 140. With all the garbage I eat I don't even know but thankfully I'm active. Like you said sitting down in a chair all day is not for me. I've just about had it with office work. When my H&R Block stint is over on April 17th I'm never going back to office duties again. I'll probably find another retail job to supplement my current retail job. I'd rather be on my feet for the most part anyway.

  2. LOL... Oh please... MCIs eat up far more mileage than those local buses... Farrrr more... MCI=bigger, better, bolder... The best.

Lol...keep repeating that and you may start to believe yourself....

Yeah, and I've been catching a lot of them these past few weeks. I got off the S44 about 20 minutes ago, and behind it was an S59 and another S44. Of course, I wasn't happy about the bunching, but  to the fact that they were all O5s.

I had surgery recently, and it seems that as soon as I recovered and got back to taking buses, they've all been O5s. Talk about a nice welcome back present.

I know...I rode my favorite Orion 5 on the S59 about two hours ago, bus no. 6300. It moves like Jagger lol

  3. Yes anything is possible, but I haven't seen a bus yet in the (MTA) bus fleet that stands up to the MCI.

Yeah ok...and that's the reason why the 1998 and 1999 MCIs are already going out the door whereas we still have Orion 5s and RTS' from 1995 STILL in service, so you can take that comment and stick it where it belongs. :P

  4. I'm going to ask a B/O friend of mine either tomorrow or Wednesday about that. I would like to see the S62 and S46 out of Meredith though. Maybe the MTA should expand that property instead of building a new depot in the meantime. It'd be cheaper by far and in this way the MTA won't have to cram Castleton's routes at Yukon and Charleston, but at Meredith too (basically all the north shore routes at Castleton, and the S51-S54 can go there).

  5. The seating style of the older OGs were the best. forward facing seats in the back and enough leg room. I hate the u-shape because it means being crushed in when all the seats are filled. At least the 2-seaters, you can sit a bit in the aisle.

The Nova lfs aren't too bad, but I would prefer not to sit in the conversation seats unless the bus was empty or I'm riding with people I know.

    =

good to know about the card. I dipped it in the box at least 2 times before giving up. But as the bus was waiting at the light, I saw the driver writing something on a sheet of paper. What do they usually write on it? Card read error/farebeat?

Not entirely sure, maybe something about the farebox needs to be checked. That's my guess.

  6. Fter riding them 3Gs back to back last night (7044 on the B1 and 7055 on the B3), I found out that the only seats I can fit in are the double forward facing seats on the lower level on the bus and the very back row. Every other seat, my legs are cramped and its very uncomfortable, ESPICALLY those seats that are higher than the others.

    Sucks being tall sometimes...

I wish the Orion Third Gens had the U-Shaped seating in the back like the Next Gens.

  7. The MTA should take over the Staten Island Ferry and all the other boat services in New York City...the current Staten Island Ferry vessels will be sold off because they are too damn slow and cumbersome. Instead, the MTA would order small high-speed boats that would make the trip from Staten Island to Manhattan and vice versa in 15-20 minutes and not 25-30 minutes. These boats would operate every 10 minutes during the rush hours (6:30 - 9 a.m.; 4:30 - 7 p.m.), 15 minutes during midday hours and 20 minutes during weekends. Overnight service would operate every 45 minutes. This would cause weekend bus service at the ferry to be adjusted on some routes, especially the routes that operate every 15 minutes but only cover part of their trip under 15 minute frequency and the other part half an hour. (S74/S78 would operate every 20 minutes on weekends to Charleston, and not 15 minutes to Richmond Avenue and half hour service extended to Charleston).

The new boats will carry 1500 people, which is justified because of the new frequency rush hour boats would have (10 minute frequency x 1500 passenger capacity = 15,000 people per hour, vs. 15 minute frequency x 3500 passenger capacity = 14,000 people per hour). The new boats will have capacity for six cars at a time. The fare for the boat would be 75 cents. Fare is collected by RFID sensors upon entering the boat with eight turnstiles lined side-by-side with each other, which future MetroCards will have (RFID sensors as well as the magnetic stripe, similar to how Chase cards with "blink" sensors on the back work). There will be two emergency gates at opposite ends of the turnstiles for people with a wheelchair, bike or stroller. People exiting the boat once they arrive to Staten Island or Manhattan will be allowed to use the gates to exit faster.

The boats would be painted white, with black vinyl trim wrapped around the windows and a blue stripe located under the windows. There'll be a MTA logo smack in the middle of the boat and underneath the logo will the lettering for the new agency "New York City Ferry". Lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  8. So if I wanted to get from JFK to Jamaica I'd have to pay $30? And then the pilot will somehow divert from the route when there's nothing in the air?

Actually no...the airline company would actually be called MTA Regional Airlines (decided to rework the name) and flights would only operate in the Northeast region of the United States. Only flights to/from JFK or LaGuardia. The MTA would try to have low fares to eliminate competition to kick out all flights out of New York along the upper half of the Eastern Seaboard. But if someone wanted to take a plane from JFK to Jamaica there'd be a flat fee of $25.

MTA Regional Airlines would consist of small planes for domestic service between JFK/Jamaica, operating every half hour. Service to Newark would operate weekdays only, every hour. Service outside of New York and Neward would have mid-capacity planes.
