  1. Man, it's been a while since I posted in this thread. But anyways, I didn't end up going to sleep until after 3:30 last night because I was having a back and forth debate with some people on facebook about music...it's sad how girls get so butthurt when we talk about people like Justin Bieber and One Direction, they make it seem like they're gods and nothing bad can be said about them. Girls these days have such bad taste in music, they only like them for looks. They don't care if they can't sing. Then they get on my case and say the music I listen to (I like alternative rock and classic rock) is bad. The nerve of people lol.

Then I make a status about it and it hits 350 comments, shifting gears from music to transportation all night...I'm still tired cuz I had to wake up at 8.

  2. Well...steering away from further drivel, rode 6281 on the S93 Limited this afternoon back to Brooklyn. Great ride as usual.

Over the next few days I have to work on my class project transit-related. Probably gonna chill at Yukon and get some bus action outside the garage.

  3. In regards to Via's statement about local service on Hylan Boulevard, here's how I will break it down:

Rush hours: S78 operates every 10-15 minutes like it does now. Service operates to Tottenville. S79 Limited via Richmond Avenue operates every 8-10 minutes, S79A operates every 15 minutes. No S79 Local service via Richmond Avenue at this time.

Middays and evenings: S78 operates every 20 minutes, terminates at Luten Avenue/Eylandt Street. S79 Local via Richmond Avenue operates every 30 minutes, S79A via Giffords Lane operates every 30 minutes. No S79 Limited service.

Weekends: S78 to Luten Avenue operates every 20 minutes. S79 Local via Richmond Avenue operates every 30 minutes, S79A operates every 20-30 minutes.

Late nights: S79 Local via Richmond Avenue operates every 45 minutes.

  4. I don't want those routes being caught in morning traffic on the bridge inbound. It's bad enough the expresses have to deal with it for the most part, so let the locals serve the regular streets. Besides with the buses serving Fourth Avenue that at the very least gives riders options of not having to deal with the ®otten during certain times of the day, e.g. going back downstairs to go back upstairs.

  5. In regards to the routing of the S53, S79 and S93 Limited to 59th Street, northbound, the three routes will take Dahlgreen Place to 86th Street, left on 86th Street to Fourth Avenue, then right on Fourth Avenue to 63rd Street, left on 63rd Street, right on Third Avenue, right on 58th Street and right on Fourth Avenue. Buses will use the block between 59th and 60th Streets on Fourth Avenue to layover. Then on the return trip to Staten Island buses will stay on Fourth Avenue to 86th Street, left on 86th Street to Gaitling Place, right on Gaitling Place and then follows regular routing.

  6. S40: Rerouted to West Shore Plaza after Forest Avenue.

S42: Can't think of anything right now.

S44: Same, can't think of anything.

S46: Rerouted to the S48's current terminal at Holland Avenue. Night service discontinued.

S48: Rerouted to the S40s terminal at Goethals Road.

S51: No change to physical route, but service via Fort Wadsworth becomes S51A.

    S52: No changes.

S53: Service reduced during midday and evening hours to compensate for 30 minute S93 Limited midday and evening service. Service extended to 59th Street in Brooklyn.

S54: Weekend service reinstated. During off-peak hours, service operates only between West New Brighton and Seaview Hospital. Service extended to Huguenot - Luten Avenue/Eylandt Street during rush hours.

S55: Service between the Transit Center and Staten Island Mall starts at 8:00; service between Rossville and the Transit Center begins at 6:45, service ends at around 8:15

S56: Rerouted to Charleston; weekend service instated.

S57: Service rerouted via New Dorp Lane to give the corridor weekend service.

S59: Service extended to Tottenville at all times. Overnight service reinstated.

    S61: No changes.

S62: Service reduced outside of rush hours for S93 Limited service. Weekend service cut from 15 minutes to 20 minutes. All service to Travis on Saturdays, no CSI short turns.

    S66: No changes.

S74: Service re-instated to Tottenville, via the Bricktown Mall.; S74 and S78 swaps routing between Saint George and Broad/Canal Streets

S76: Service rerouted to Amboy Road and Guyon Avenue.

S78: Service rerouted to Huguenot - Luten Avenue/Eylandt Street during off-peak hours; service runs to Tottenville during rush hours only. Overnight service discontinued, replaced by the S79 and S54; routing between Saint George and Broad/Canal Streets swapped with S74.

S79: Rush hour weekday limited service, all day limited service on weekends, local S79 service doesn't run during rush hours. Late night service operates between the Transit Center and Brooklyn. Service extended to 59th Street in Brooklyn. S79A operates via Giffords Lane.

  7. Yukon should get more new local buses... All of those old crappy Orions... <_<

They're not THAT bad...with the exception of the 6300s the rest of the fleet is not that great though I'll say that much. If you were to ride the 2008 Orion 5s Bee Line has I reckon you'd like em as they're very well maintained...then again every transit system's fleet is better than ours sad to say.

  8. When you checked out the North Shore Line, did you take the S90 for one stop or something and then walk back to Port Richmond Avenue? Because the S59 and S66 only have one point where they connect to the S90, and it's the same point for both routes.

And I assume you just walked from CSI to Richmond Avenue for the S59, right?

Yeah I skated from CSI to Richmond Avenue. And yeah I checked out the North Shore Line at the Nicholas Avenue stop and then skated back to Port Richmond Avenue.

  9. What a day I had yesterday...spent the entire day in Staten Island and the buses were extremely well to me. Started off the day with an Orion 5 on the S93 Limited, then rode an Orion 5 on the S59 to the mall and went to work. After work I rode an Orion 5 on the S59 to Tottenville and cgot some photos of the Conference House. Then I took an Orion 5 on the S78, a Nova on the S54 (spent some time in Todt Hill), made moves to Port Richmond on an Orion 5 on the S66, then took an Xcelsior on the S90 Limited and checked out the abandoned North Shore Line for a few minutes. From there I took an Orion 5 on the S59 to the Transit Center and charged my phone for a while, and then went back to Tottenville on another Orion 5 on the S59 and got some photos of the sunset. Then from there I took the last S59 from Tottenville to the mall and chilled there for a bit. Then I took yet another Orion 5 on the S59 to the Transit Center and waited for the 9:00 X1...which was a Prevost. Rode it all the way to Central Park South and then went home from there. Great day, no hybrids and rode my favorite buses as well. Can't think of a better way to start and end the day with nothing else than an Orion 5 and a Prevost...leading the way all day every day! (y)

  10. Man, what a crazy day in Staten Island. I had work at the mall 9-4 today and around 11 there was some smoke lingering in New Springville (the neighborhood the mall is located in). From there it got worse and worse...smoke filled the mall but surprisingly we were not told to evacuate. I stepped outside for a half-hour break to get a look at what was going on and the smoke was uneatable. When I finally left at 4, it seemed things weren't getting any better, and thankfully I got on the bus back to Brooklyn. One time I did NOT like being in Staten Island.

Apparently a brush fire started in Arthur Kill, and with the winds high today, it was no surprise that smoke was all over. Everyone said that someone must have started the fire.

  11. On another note, I spotted a Nova on the S44 a few hours ago. The S44, S59 and S61 have school runs supplied by Castleton that comes from IS 72 at around 1:30. The S44s drop out at Post/Jewett, managed to get a rear photo of the bus but not the front.
