  1. Watch out for those bicycles. They will sneak up on you. And if you see them, call it out to your supt. Let him know you see it before he lets you know.
  2. I believe they use day 6 and 7 to qualify. So you need to do well on both days.
  3. I live in queens and they gave me MCH. That was a commute.
  4. So the training is almost identical for both groups. You’re on the same bus, get the same training except if there’s additional time in the work day. The supt may give the permit guys/gals some engine pre trip practice. I don’t think that’s mandatory for them to do, as you will get additional training for that after you qualify. Whether it’s on day 7 or 10.
  5. That's the thing about all the training. Go Slow. And read the write up they give you and try to correct it the next day.
  6. I know my limit and if I feel tired, I would never even attempt. I ask if they have express work, and I do a trip.
  7. I know I’m not supposed to but I’ve done a couple extra trips for my depot.
  8. They need people to sanitize the buses between runs. So daily there is work available to sanitize the buses.
  9. Anyone starting line training next week?
  10. So most of the riders today boarded through the front door and paid their fares. A couple people used the famous “can I have a ride” line. And couple people snuck in the back door, a couple people insisted on going to the back although I had my front doors open and a few people mention they wasn’t aware or didn’t have their metro card with money. All in all not a bad start.
  11. Can’t wait. All these people getting on the bus to go 1 stop.
  12. Yeah, I think they are bluffing about the lay offs but figured I’d mention it. They are super short. At my Depot, since I clear early afternoons there is usually extra work available. We are down every day. I suggest you do your research about depots for pick day. You may have an option to pick a depot. So do your research as to which you may like to end up at just in case.
  13. Letter from MTA Chairman Regarding Cuts
  14. Letter from MTA Chairman Wish I knew how to upload a pdf to this site.
  15. The letter specifically mentions BO’s
  16. It’s interesting that they are still scheduling training when they sent us an email saying they are laying off 40% of staff and some cuts will come from DOB.
  17. Congratulations. Wait until MCI training day. Taking the MCI through the tunnel the first time almost gave me a heart attack.
  18. During line training, since you’re paired with a senior driver you will most likely have weekends off. I had all my weekends off during training. Different driver daily and different runs. Show up earlier than expected and wait for your trainer. Don’t have them wait for you. And don’t be exact on time. These guys have a daily routine and they’ve been doing the same thing for years. Some like to leave early and stop at their favorite breakfast spot and so on. I was always 1 hour early and waited for them. If we did stop for breakfast I paid or at least tried to. Most won’t accept. Try to soak in as much info from these guys/gals you can. They have valuable info to impart.
  19. There is very little parking. Well more like no parking at Jamaica Depot areas. Leave early. Take the bus.
  20. For line training they pair you up with a seniority driver. Some of them pick 8 hour straight which means you will show up early and work 8 hours and go home. Some of them love long swings, meaning you show up early. Do a couple trips. Go home and then come back pm rush and do a couple more trips. 8 hour straight it nice because you go home early. Long swings are great because that’s how you make money. My first day of line training I did a straight was done by 3pm. The rest of my line training was all long swings.
