  1. It also doesn't help when drivers shut the air off which has been a problem since the LIB days.
  2. Suffolk Transit still uses GFI Genfare boxes. And they do have their fair share of problems with them, its usually the thing that prints out the transfers.
  3. Maybe it's his 2nd job. Remember alot of NICE operators are part-time and may have other driving jobs. Going back quite a few years ago there was a driver at CBS Lines (Suffolk Transit) he actually did the afternoons but he often came into work with a school bus company uniform on, so he probably drove school buses before starting on the S62 at Port Jeff around 4pm. Well its either that or he got a NICE uniform from someone and felt like wearing it. One guy who I had driving the S66 awhile ago was wearing an MTA (perhaps LIB) uniform.
  4. Yeah Glen Cove is one of the worst places to live or visit in the county by public transit. It was already isolated by geography, but on weekends it's very difficult with the n27 running only as far as Roslyn. I really think the n27 needs to be restored to Roosevelt Field on weekends. I was at the Hicksville meeting and told them I'm dissapointed the n27 wasn't being restored to RF on weekends. They said they have allowed for more running time and have a bus on "standby" in case of a missed connection. I'm not sure how that will work, if they have to have an extra bus just sitting there why not just use it for the n27 to RF. All they need is 2 buses on the weekends running every hour. I told them the n23 is very crowded as a result of the n27 loads combining onto it particularly on Saturdays. I dont see midday off peak n21's getting that many riders, I actually think they'd get more on weekends. Maybe run it via Greenvale & Glen Cove Rd since most aren't going to those areas in Sea Cliff and Glenwood Landing. All I can say is Glen Cove is one of those places folks are exiled to. Very isolated. Of course if the LIRR has scoots every 30-45 min on the Oyster Bay branch this could help a great deal, this was reported in Newsday as well. Traffic is awful in and out of that area, with Glen Cove Rd the only main artery which results in 15-20 min backups daily in Greenvale. Something needs to be done for sure.
  5. From what I heard the n45 & 51 will serve all NCC stops like the n16 does which will BOOST ridership on those routes. The n45 gets a number of people going to Roosevelt and helps out the n43 along Uniondale Ave. I'm sure many NCC students like in communities along those routes but many drive, the idea is to get them on the bus instead.
  6. I saw it too, passing through Bellmore around 5:50pm eastbound.
  7. In some ways the Orion V Oranges run worse than the Greens. It's always been that way actually, a driver I knew who retired said those Oranges have "Granny Gears". And yeah the engine goes down to really low RPM's when stopping, sometimes they stall too, happened to me with 1653 a couple of weeks ago, came to a stop sign RPM dropped so low it shut off. Fortunately it started back up again. It has to do with the transmission settings I think.
  8. You got that right. I've been complaining to the MTA for years and years. They never even give me a reason why Cold Spring Harbor and Syosset get 30 min service on weekends but not Westbury. There's alot more people at Westbury than Cold Spring Harbor on weekends! Every Huntington train should be stopping at Westbury, we get the same level of service Carle Place does, despite getting at least twice the pax. New Hyde Park is another busy station as well. They were interviewing ppl on the news the other day about what the LIRR should do to improve service, most people said hourly waits are unacceptable, there should be service every 30 min. I dont think the MTA is giving LIRR its fair share of service improvements, I'm impressed with Veolia actually, at least they listen and get back to me on comments and put more dollars into service. I bet they'd be able to do more with the LIRR budget than the MTA is doing. Maybe they should run the LIRR too....let the MTA just be NYC since they love it so much there. Weekends too, n35 is every 30 min Sat so is the n22 Sat & Sun, LIRR only once an hour. With the new NCC express routes coming online I see more LIRR riders coming over to NICE. Alot of times if I miss the Westbury train I'm better off just taking the n22 to the subway. The LIRR mgmt is so out of touch with ridership patterns it aint funny.
  9. We all know the Orion V's cant take the heat & humidity well, the a/c was probably on as well.
  10. I may start doing exactly that and catch the . That's probably just as crazy as my Roosevelt Ave idea. The root of the problem is Queens is underserved by the subway, and any solution isn't gonna be cheap or easy.
  11. What I do know is in the morning my already packed or pulls into Roosevelt and sits there for a few minutes as the mobs try and shove their way in. And trust me they SHOVE their way in. Meanwhile there's usually a much emptier train nearby they could take but choose not to. If I was using one of those stations west of Forest Hills it would be the or for me.It's about choices, some people pack onto a train bursting at the gills because it may get them their a few mins earlier. But when you cant get the doors closed it delays EVERYONE. It ties up the line, often trains back up at Roosevelt because of the mobs. All I'm saying is maybe they need to be FORCED to use the emptier trains. These people act like only the or stops at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt and that its the last train on earth. All I'm saying is it may not be a bad idea to have the have the or skip Roosevelt, rush hours only. I'm thinking the should be the one to skip since its usually more crowded. Certainly my idea isn't any worse than the OP's. Adding switching trains to Roosevelt would be a complete disaster.
  12. A simpler solution would just be to have the and/or skip Roosevelt Ave. The overcrowding problem happens from Roosevelt Ave on west, from riders who refuse to stay upstairs on the or utilize the which serves the same Lexington & Fifth ave stations the does and the same 6th ave stations the does. The also provides a more direct transfer to the Lex lines than the . The Roosevelt Ave mobs won't listen so you have to force them onto the emptier trains.
  13. Do all CNG tanks have those valves? May not be such a good idea having a giant flamethrower on the top of the bus. Good thing this this was not a busy area and there were no buildings around. That tank blowing like that would've made some rocket.
  14. I agree that restoring the n21 middays was foolish but they probably wanted to shut up the complainers. The real change should have been restoring the n27 to Roosevelt Field at all times, and I will be telling them that at the meetings next week. The n23 gets crush loaded on weekends with the extra riders its getting from PW and either needs half hourly service or the n27 being extended to RF (more logical). Perhaps they will listen and change some of these "proposed service additions" to n27 weekends to RF instead. But I think we know who to blame for this and which group was obsessed with bringing the n21 back. Now because of that n27 weekend riders will continue to deal with missed connections and overcrowding on the n23 on weekends. But if they were so upset about it they sure aren't complaining. But it's bad from a ridership standpoint because the n27 to RF on weekends will carry, the midday n21's will not. I know the sat tracking system will probably solve the connection issue, but it sure as hell aint gonna help those jam packed n23s particularly on a Saturday.
  15. I'm suprised he was able to do that with a V. Maybe he shut the a/c off.
  16. Well I was hoping to see a weekend n27 service restoration to RF, but I guess it just aint gonna happen. Probably not many complaints. I'd rather have seen that then a midday n21 restoration. But I guess the n21 riders have been more vocal. All the other changes look good. Alot of ppl travel between NCC and Queens the n6x extention will do well.
  17. They just keep setting new lows dont they over at NJT.
  18. Well I seen it at Suffolk Transit once with a VII. They should be doing that on the V's as 1653 conked out on me while stopping at stop sign in Bellmore today. The engine sounded like it was ready to quit for awhile with the a/c on until it finally did, once we got going again the a/c was shut off. Maybe NICE should remove the engine covers from the V's in the summer to keep 'em cool.
  19. It is possible he didn't see it. I remember seeing a b/o back in the LIB days with a 1700 on the n88 with the back cover open too. Even at Suffolk Transit I saw it recently on their Orion VII's, which lead me to believe the engine cover has a habit of coming up on its own. Of course it's possible they left it open to cool an overheated engine. They did do this at LIB on occasion. NJT needs to do this with some of those CL's, particularly 7185 which I'm sure isn't doing too well lately.
  20. He could've been reading the NICE driver route book as he may not have known the route.
  21. That is pretty bad, but stuff like that happened under the sometimes too. Which is why I wanted the MTA to have city buses replace those runs but we all know how that went. I dont have the patience for that, I'd just take a city bus to Floral Park and get the LIRR to Hempstead if I had to go that way. Was it an Orion V that broke down on the n24? The delay could've been caused by an accident or flooding (there was some heavy rains yesterday). Often with the n22 I'll see two or three in a row.
  22. Noticed a poster stating new schedule for Jun.23 on the bus, nothing on the website. Any ideas on where the new schedules will be implemented?
