Thanks for the info on the buses, but as someone pointed out this time I want to enjoy a journey on the rails.

So far I have NJT train from Penn to Trenton, and then SEPTA to the Philadelphia. I plan to use 30th St. station. Is it good? I have never been to Philly before.

Wow Toronto is good, columns are spaced further into the station which is good for passenger flow, the island stations do not tend to narrow on either ends, lighting seems good. Definitely worth a visit. Would you happen to have posts of photos?

the naming issue well isn't that big, its mostly tourists and newcomers who have the most problem. Mostly. While it could be a good idea in longshot it would immediately confuse those who have been commuting for years. As for fleet variety, I grew up in the city with 3 lines and all same cars, so fleet variety means nothing to me. It's like its there or not, big whoop :D

Well for naming mishaps we can blame the street grid, pretty much nothing could have been done about that unless they made up names for stations, e.g. naming after famous people, places and special dates. Still for me fleet variety is nothing to make a big deal of.

While for the fans fleet variety is something important, I would take better designed stations and routes any day, the ones that are thought through for passenger comfort, the ones that do not stop on every block because they had to acquire the most passengers. The ones that are not tangled underground to avoid costs of building more trunk lines and constructing with better technologies. Sorry but those are far better options than fleet variety /end rant.

  20. Anyone knows why weld rail isn't used on elevated lines?

    1. overclocked

      overclocked

Makes sense since the way they replace rails is by using pre-fabricated sections, but the thing about maintenance isn't satisfying since there are sections of weld rail everywhere but elevated. My thoughts are going into technical difficulties area, maybe elevated lines experience more stress thus weld rail breaks more often, or since its metal structure, maybe the expansion/contraction requires short sections of rail to accommodate it. It seems that this question is stuck with me for goo...

Very much agreed, RTS. It takes so long just to dissassemble it and the only good part is the tail.
