  1. There's another factor thrown into the assignment mess: when will the QBL CBTC project wrap up? Jamaica's fleet will need to be 100% NTT when that gets running. Only one thing is really certain here: the will be 100% NTT.
  2. Responding to the above, the only tunnels that currently have room for an additional service are Rutgers , 63rd Street , Montague and 149th Street . Nothing else can get to Rutgers due to the using the extra local capacity. Wasn't there a proposal to build a tunnel connecting the Brighton Line near Prospect Park to the Culver under 9th Street at one point to utilize this capacity? 63rd Street would never be fully utilized unless a service comes off of Second Avenue (connection tracks to/from the south are part of Phase 3 for yard moves) and the super-express or another line on the Queens side is built. Montague was better-utilized in the past but stopped due to the merger and low ridership.
  3. At this point, very few R62As ever see service and the line is mostly R188s. As of the June car assignments, a whopping 3 sets were in rush hour service, which happens to be approximately how many sets of R142As are on the {4}.
  4. Pretty sure it is. I was at the Oculus earlier today and agree that it's quite nice (well, except for the damn tourists standing in the middle of the stairs/walkways to take pictures). Certainly will be nice when Cortlandt is back open.
  5. The was running local on Queens Boulevard for a while this evening due to a sick passenger. I was stuck on an on the express track at 36th Street for a good 15-20 minutes.
  6. Not that this is an issue at this time, but do the R142/As even have a program for the shuttle? Don't mention the war. I hope it doesn't happen for a VERY long time, but probably similar to what we have seen in the past. The would likely run via 6th Avenue between DeKalb and Lex/63rd if the south side was closed, for example. Based on track layouts, a north side closure would be more disruptive, as every South Brooklyn service other than the would have to run via Broadway or Nassau Street.
  7. And that would likely be to eliminate the need for a bunch of services to change frequency. As of now, the following services change frequency at some point along their route: When SAS opens, the will flip to the IND frequency just south of Lex/63rd. Here's a listing of what'll be on each frequency for the entire route when SAS opens: IND: BMT: Franklin IRT: Times Square With SAS, 6/17 of the B Division lines will need to change frequency, which the MTA may desire to avoid, but we're getting ahead of ourselves there. For the uninitiated, the is lumped with the B Division because that is its only track connection with the rest of the system. All car moves to the rest of the IRT have to either hop on the Bay Ridge branch with a diesel and use the unpowered connection at Linden Shops or get over to the IND and cross over to the IRT at 207th St or Concourse.
  8. New York's system is so large that having the radio would likely get clogged up if everything was on the same band. The BMT/IND/IRT division makes for an easy way to assign segments of the system. Of course, the is on the BMT band, as are the in Brooklyn and south of Church, while the is on the IND in Queens.
  9. That and anyone who needs to access the could also make a cross-platform transfer at Lex and 59th from the .
  10. Precisely. We'll see everything when it happens. Knowing how things have been working over at Bombardier lately with their Toronto orders, that might be a while, but we won't know anything until the trains have arrived in New York. With all of the nonsense here, I don't remember if somebody has already answered what I am about to ask: Has the test train (supposedly due for delivery this month) arrived yet?
  11. We still have 3 years until the shutdown. As we saw with the R44s, anything can happen by then. We know that the will be getting 600' trains, the will be suspended west of Bedford, the will see additional service, the will run local and 2 out of system transfers are being added. Anything else is pure speculation.
  12. All of those came in as singles. Odd number of cars was so they could swap a car out if it went bad. Of course, that is all moot now that most of them are linked in 4-5 car sets. What a surprise...not. Bombardier hasn't been having good luck lately. They have had major issues with defects and late deliveries. I have been in Toronto a few times in the past couple years and their Bombardier orders for subway and streetcars have been far behind.
  13. Completely agree. I've been to the Rockaways on weekdays during rush hour and trains are practically empty, even with the low service frequencies. Biggest issue with the current arrangement is the need for airport service. While most people take the or LIRR, that is where the fills up. It wouldn't be hard to have every other train relay on the express tracks just south of there to give it more service while not overserving the Rockaways.
  14. Okay, let's see: Switches to local track north of 59th heading downtown, then runs via the to Jay St via Rutgers, switching to local north of 34th. Uptown runs via Cranberry, using the north of W4 but running local on 6th Avenue south of 34th Suspended to avoid having 5 services use one track north of 34th Same as Switches to local track just north of 59th heading downtown Suspended south of 34th Street, terminates on express tracks Switches to express track north of 34th heading uptown Runs to Chambers
  15. Unpopular. Heck, there wasn't enough usage to really justify the running to South Brooklyn, let alone the brown as well.
  16. Time for something a little more reasonable: A tornado/water spout has torn through the Manny B and Willy B, rendering all 6 tracks unusable. Reroute away. Lines affected:
  17. How is Montague not affected when it's practically next to another tunnel? suspended south of Wall St suspended north of Clark St. suspended south of Bowling Green suspended north of Borough Hall, runs local in Brooklyn (except Hoyt St) runs between E180 St and Dyre makes a comeback to replace the , running between Times Square and Lenox. Suspended south of Fulton Street, runs local outside of rush hours Suspended north of High Street, extended to Lefferts Suspended south of East Broadway Extended to Stillwell Makes a comeback, runs express between East Broadway and Far Rockaway Suspended west of Bedford Ave Suspended south of Whitehall Street makes a comeback, runs between 95 Street and Court St
  18. I'm trying to figure out how a building collapse affects the , which are half a mile away. Heck, when WTC was attacked they had service running a couple short blocks away a couple days later. Same for the Barclays Center, which has stuff open 3 short blocks south but closed a mile north and west.
  19. Actually, reading the article, I was wrong. NOT Sandy stuff, but rather "infrastructure improvements" unrelated to the storm. They'll be bustituting, no word about the . Probably best to bustitute in this situation, as one has to backtrack quite a bit to get to the .
  20. Not too different from how it currently is. Oh, and the runs local at night.
  21. Spock wouldn't be happy with the lack of logic here. suspended south of 96th Street, express NB south of 137th Street suspended between 96th Street and Chambers Street suspended suspended Grand Central-Brooklyn Bridge, local in Brooklyn and extended to New Lots suspended south of E180 St suspended south of Grand Central runs local in Brooklyn to Brighton Beach suspended west of Bedford suspended between 34 Street and Canal St, via tunnel runs on between 36th and Bway-Lafayette, then over the bridge to DeKalb suspended
  22. runs via 63rd Street and is extended to Jamaica Center to replace the to Chambers, avoiding the IND entirely suspended between Court Square and Roosevelt Ave, use to connect runs local on Queens Boulevard to allow to relay and make up for lost service I thought about sending the via 63rd Street, but that would cause excess congestion and possibly back up 3 Manhattan trunk lines.
  23. Going back a couple of posts when the same question was answered,
