Subway timers

Its more like they "govern" your speed through certain areas, hence the timing part of them you past one signal that on time and the other one in front of it "counts down" to make sure you are obeying the speed for the area.

Sometimes there are curves ahead or a station with a HomeSignal (usually at Danger) on the leaving end of it.

They are there basically to Slow you down.. heh heh..

It will Clear for you if you are doing the proper speed but heres the kicker if the sign with the signal says"GT25"(Grade Time 25 mph) it "supposed' to clear for you at 25 Mph, but sometimes thats not the case.

They told us (and any New Train Opoerator) do "half of what the sign says", yeah i know it defeats the purpose but some of them do clear at the right speed.

Better safe than sorry down here.

Thats it in a nutshell....

Is it a device or signal point that when tripped, cuts power to the train and slows the train automatically?

The "stop arm" of the signal that trips your train causes your air brakes to go into emergency(shoes applying to the wheels) therefore stopping the train..

THEN you better hope it was a "signal malfunction"...

Beacuse you just brought that signal and down here in RTO its EXPENSIVE..

Where is the timer located at the 4th Av southbound express? I would guess between 25th St & Prospect Av where the usual slowdown happens.

If im correct just South of Prospect on F3 Track is where the grade time area begins and its a lot of em all the way to 36th Street.
