Grand Concourse Posted September 6, 2009 Share #26 Posted September 6, 2009 I don't see why anyone wants to extend the 1 to SI. Plus a 5 mile long tunnel will take decades to recover its costs via fare collection. This is not like connecting two states together. I'm sorry, but SI is just a borough and does NOT justify such an expensive rail link. I'd rather the money be spent on maybe building a link from SI to Brooklyn and making it another branch of the SIRT than for any subway line to be extended into SI. 2Line1291 Posted September 6, 2009 Share #27 Posted September 6, 2009 That's even better for the SIRT to be extended to Brooklyn, then probaly a future extenstion from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

No, SIRT is under FRA regulation. I believe it is best to leave it separate from the system. Now an across the platform transfer would not be so bad.
