Takuma Ishizeki 0 Posted October 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 10, 2009 I have seen the Orbital Orbi...whatever-it-is monitor and the sign equipped on NABI buses on the Bee-Line System. The sign tells the current date and time through the monitor. However I have 1 question about the monitor. Other than telling date and time, what are these monitors for? And are there any future uses of these?

40MntVrn 80 Posted October 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2009 The signs you see are at one point going to be used to display stop information. There is also audio equipped to announce the approaching stop. "Now approaching Lincoln and Gramatan Avenues" or "Now approaching Westchester Medical center." When it's not in use, it usually displays the date and time or route and direction. It can also alert riders to use the rear doors when approaching a stop with many passengers waiting to board. Long Island Bus has something similar to this in action now.
metsfan 2 Posted October 11, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 11, 2009 Reminds me of horse drawn streetcars, yelling out the next stop. One can hear such a call in "An American Tail" the streetcar coming up on Grand & Houston streets. - A
