S78 via Hylan Posted December 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2009 I noticed years ago that SI is the only borough that has buses with higher numbers for limited routes with the exception of the S89 and S93 e.g.: S40/S90, S44/S94... etc. Any reason why this is? Kingsbridge Bus Posted December 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2009 I was wondering about that too. might just be trying to make it look like Staten Island has more routes that it actualy does.
w8Hou Posted December 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2009 The likely reason why is they did it back in the late 80's early 90s when they have to rename the three digit routes converted to two digit routes. The TA wanted to make it simple in Staten Island at that time to identify the region corridor on the route runs easily. Example: s62 is local, s92 is limited= faster. The limited stop route numbers serves as an alternate of the route corridor. Yet it seem like Staten Island has more routes, but only one of route is the s93 only part of s53, and s62.
