EE Broadway Local 18 Posted January 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2008 1) What's it like to railfan the (M&E) Line and is this the best way to/from Somerville? 2) Is Lake Hopatcong near a train station? (the lake itself)
Jamaica Express 27 Posted January 3, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 3, 2008 I personally like the M&E its the 2nd busiest line in the system and you can catch plenty of trains running up and down the line and a great line to see almost any type of equipment MU's,Push-Pull's, diesel sets etc.(I would say Summit is one of the best spots for this) and any station east of that point The best way to/from Somerville is via the Raritan Valley Line which is also a busy line during Rush Hour but nothing compared to the M&E Lake Hopatcong station isn't too far from the lake itself, I know its down landing rd which is the road that goes to the station, but If you plan on going out there I would recomend having other things to do if you railfan this far out on the line due to the fact that service east of Dover is somewhat limited
Pablo M 201 35 Posted January 3, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 3, 2008 Railfanning the M&E lines is good. Lots of fun and its usually busy on the main part of the line.
EE Broadway Local 18 Posted March 6, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted March 6, 2008 Thank you for the replies and the advice. NJT has a good rail system which makes it easier to see some of New Jersey.
