East New York Posted January 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2011 Detroit's suburban operator SMART receives it's first articulated coaches ever, opting for an order of DE60LF's. This is also the first time the agency has operated a New Flyer product. The last time Detroit saw articulated coaches in service was nearly 20 years ago, when the Detroit Department of Transportation had a small batch 1989 Neoplans. These buses were retired from service prematurely, due to the fact that they were trashed by 1995. Thank God DDOT's newer batches of New Flyer D40LF's are only to be serviced by New Flyer and Cummins. The DDOT mechanics are not allowed to touch them. Their 2001, and 2002 RTS' are on their last legs, and most of the 2004 D40LF's are as well. Photo Courtesy SMART

Nabinut Posted January 19, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2011 Those two buses may have come from the fire sale at New Flyer that resulted in Ottawa and a few other cities getting great deals to buy artics.
