Its Regional Rail not a Subway....High Speed Ferries are ok , but there expensive to run and use. The Regional Rail network needs to be expanded and connected like in Tokyo , Paris and many German cities....through running is badly needed.... Building a Regional Rail network to SI would mean that it could be expanded into NJ via Perth Amboy and Elizabeth to NJCL and RVL...

 

But if they can't get the ARC project built, how do you expect an SI-Manhattan tunnel to be built when SI is 'residential' compared to Jersey city or Hoboken? High speed ferries would be the best they'll get and the tunnel would have to go thru Brooklyn.

Utility work for the new Dey Street Headhouse requires a full closure of Dey Street between Broadway and Church Street, from Thursday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 5th. The closures will take place during daytime hours, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Pedestrian walkways will be maintained, but vehicles will be detoured to Cortlandt or Liberty Streets.

 

The work is part of the MTA’s Fulton Street Transit Center project. The new Dey Street entrance is expected to open in summer 2012.

And neither do I. This Fulton St building will seem modest compared to the $2-3 billion mess that the PA wants to build just a few blocks away. What I don't like is how the costs just keeps growing without any accountability. If this was a private firm, they'd be bankrupt right now without a safety net.

 

The beautiful thing about the (MTA), which is really indicative of NYS is how five years after this thing is done; no one will remember that it took twice as long as originally advertised to complete and is way over budget. Oh, and it helps that at least 80% of this was paid for by the federal government. No one has to be accountable when it someone else money.

 

And in all fairness, part of the blame should go to the state who pressured the agency to build this to help make Lower Manhattan more transit acceptable without actually building anything that would benefit someone outside of Sheldon Silvers district.
