theaveragejoe Posted December 25, 2012 Author Share #26 Posted December 25, 2012 PATH SERVICE TO OPERATE AROUND THE CLOCK ON NEW YEAR’S EVE, DAY: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced today that service on its PATH rail system will operate around the clock on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to help revelers and holiday travelers reach their destinations safely. These extended hours mark the first time PATH service has resumed 24-hour operations since Hurricane Sandy’s storm surge devastated the system in late October, flooding tracks and causing billions of dollars of damage to electrical systems and switches. On Tuesday, Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., PATH trains will run both ways from Newark to the World Trade Center, Journal Square to 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. Between the hours of 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day, PATH trains will run approximately every 10 minutes to and from Journal Square and 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. There will be no service during those hours between Newark and the World Trade Center. On Monday. January 1, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., PATH trains will be in service to and from Newark and the World Trade Center, Journal Square and 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. Service between Newark and the World Trade Center will end at 10 p.m. on January 1 and resume the following morning on a normal schedule. West End Posted December 25, 2012 Share #27 Posted December 25, 2012 Why not run the train Newark Penn Station - 33rd Street at night? The demand is definitely there for it...
Shortline Bus Posted December 28, 2012 Share #28 Posted December 28, 2012 Why not run the train Newark Penn Station - 33rd Street at night? The demand is definitely there for it... Agreed. According to press statement/article it seems this overnight service only returns for '1' night until maybe spring.

Shortline Bus Posted January 12, 2013 Share #30 Posted January 12, 2013 Hey only negative is this trip from Manhattan to Newark/Penn now takes an extra 20-25 minutes running via Hoboken instead direct from WTC. That due to added time of the T/O switching sides at Hoboken. Still Newark area riders now once again have overnight train service to/from NYC.
