Guys a dumb question? With the Path only running the normally weekday Journal Sq-33rd Street (no Hoboken)line only between appx.6am-10pm daily until the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy reopen, what are the alternatives for riders going to Newark-Penn (overnights) or WTC and Hoboken?

Shuttle buses provided by NJT....

I am aware Threxx. However since i am confused by the numerous shuttle buses by NJT/CUSA and others(from readin also the NJT website) does any of them run 24/7 and close to the Path stops? This is directed for those Path riders without their own cars.

I'm pretty sure it's Hoboken/Newark-33rd Street, and then you take the PATH or subway from there...

Threxx the Newark-WTC and Hoboken lines are *not running.* Plus the JSQ-33rd is only running daily 6am-10pm. It's closed overnight for repairs. That why i created this question.

I meant the buses... I was answering your question. I'm well aware that the PATH trains aren't running.......

To (actually) answer your question, PATH riders like myself constantly need to find alternative routes to the city. Hoboken residents either take a ferry from Hoboken Terminal to the 39th Street Pier or take a NJ Transit bus to the PABT. Some people also walk to the Newport station, which is about 10 minutes away. Commuters to/from Exchange Place (the financial district of Jersey City) use the Grove Street station instead -- only four blocks away. Those headed to WTC usually take the PATH to a Midtown station, then switch to the subway. Until Monday morning, Harrison and Newark Penn Station riders mostly took NJ Transit commuter rail to NY Penn Station, usually on trains that were severely delayed. Christopher Street and 9th Street passengers use the 14th Street stop.

FYI, the 9th Street stop opens again on Tuesday morning, with limited access to the station.

Nighttime alternatives to Newark Penn are NJ Transit trains a buses (the last ones leaving around 1 AM). Hoboken riders also need to rely on an NJ Transit bus.

Hope this was helpful.

PATH service returns to World Trade Center on Monday. Hoboken still closed until further notice.

Source

Governor Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced Saturday that weekday PATH train service will resume to Lower Manhattan along the World Trade Center line Monday morning.

The line will run Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and make stops at the Newark, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street and Exchange Place stations in New Jersey, as well as the World Trade Center station in New York City.

Weekend service will continue to be unavailable so crews can continue repair efforts.

Service on the 33rd Street PATH line will also resume Monday, as trains between Journal Square and 33rd Street will make all station stops, including Christopher Street.

The Hoboken Station is still closed after suffering severe damage.

First day back to service (NWK-WTC) and there was power problems that temporarily suspended that line for a few hours

If it that bad, might as well not run the line (WTC-Newark)until all of power/electric powers are fixed. They could just run shuttle buses between Journal and Newark-Penn until then.

True, but they did was go back to the NWK-33 (which is now considered a temp. weekend service)

Or just beef up 1 service to/from JSQ like the way they beefed up 126 service.

  • 3 weeks later...

So the PATH is currently running just its Newark-Penn Station to World Trade Center line on the weekends from 5 AM to 10 PM. This is definitely a shot in the dark, but does anybody know how the PATH will be running over the holiday weekends?

I assume for both Christmas(this coming weekend) and New Years(next one) weekend and those formentioned holidays i assume it be a weekend schedule running between Newark-Penn and WTC from 5am to 10pm. Plus according to the PA website there now "free" weekend bus shuttle service between Grove St and Hoboken (stopping at Newport-Pavonia station) as well.

Now next is at least restorting overnight service at least to run a Newark-33rd Street line running at least every hour.

Agreed. The appeal of living in Hudson County is (generally) cheaper rent combined with round-the-clock service. Hourly headways would be a good start to rejuvinate the area. If it needs to be implemented slowly, then they should start with the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights).

or add full 24/7 service unless construction doesn't permit.
