Imbalance on the (Q)

nostalgia

Recommended Posts

Last Friday, there was a G.O. that the Q ran EXPRESS to Coney Island, even running through Brighton Beach on the express tracks. So, there are more (Q)s arriving at Coney Island than those scheduled to leave. There must be congestion somewhere as the arriving (Q)s have to wait for an open track.

Something similar happened a week ago on the (1). Southbound (1)s ran express from Penn Station to South Ferry. The explanation was they dwelled a short time at South Ferry and then went as far as Chambers where each train sat until its follower arrived.

Did something similar happen on the (Q). Were trains pushed out at CI and held at W8th or somewhere else?

I didn't stall at West 8 Street for too long, but I did see a long line of (Q) trains coming in to Coney Island all the way from Sheepshead Bay.

The congestion comes from there only being one open pocket at Brighton for the (B) . If you have a second (B) waiting to get into Brighton, it will back up the whole road, as the next (Q) will be plugged behind it. Yes, that's right - during this GO the (B) only gets one terminal track at both ends!

I observed that. But what happens at CI? Do the (Q)s leave in a hurry and held at W8th or someplace else to open tracks for waiting (Q)s?

Except it was a weekend.
