JLiu15 Posted April 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) So I decided to create a thread for university transit systems in the NJ and tri-state area, as there are plenty of university transit systems around here that I think deserves a thread of their own. For instance, Rutgers University, Princeton University, and College of Staten Island. Lawrence St Posted February 8, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2023 They spent all that money to refurbish those D60LF’s just to retire them? What’s that about?

What’s that about? Some of them got new engines in 2017 but that wasn't enough to save them from all their issues lol. The first unit to retire was 6169 I think in 2016. By Fall 2019 only 4 units were left (6167, 6171, 6175-6176). They were never used again after Rutgers abruptly shut down campus and went remote on 3/11/2020 due to Covid. As of right now 6171 and 6176 are still on the First Transit Monmouth Junction property, used for parts. There were plans to bring back 6171 for the Fall 2021 semester, but those plans never went through.

JLiu15 Posted February 22, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted February 22, 2023 Rutgers 4032 and 4033 entered service today! Both on Route B. The fate of 4183 and 4196 are questionable though...they've been stored at First Transit's Monmouth Junction facility since the summer and they haven't moved. Apparently they're waiting for engine replacement but 4196 failed inspection earlier this month. Some other buses currently stored there for several months now are 4186, 4203, and 4207. 4186 apparently needs an engine replacement - it already spent several months out of service last year for a transmission replacement. 1007 swapped windshield wipers with some other ex-LSU buses - not sure if they just put their broken wipers on or if they're gonna attempt to revive it. 1500 is also stored there after retiring this summer, as well as 6171 and 6176.

JLiu15 Posted April 30, 2023 Author Share #10 Posted April 30, 2023 Some updates: All Rutgers 2023 ENC Axess BRT 40' in Year 1 (4032-4041) are active. Rutgers Ex-Princeton 2015 ElDorado E-Z Rider BRT 30' (4125-4126) to College of Staten Island College of Staten Island 2014 ElDorado Axess BRT 40' (4049) retired
JLiu15 Posted May 26, 2023 Author Share #11 Posted May 26, 2023 Older Rutgers ElDorados are starting to bite the dust. 4183, 4186, 4196, and 1011 all failed NJDOT inspection recently with no inspection performed. If I recall a failed inspection with inspection not performed was how 1493 and 1500 were formally retired last year.
