  1. Based on the video, The seating arrangement is different on the A-end of the car. The center facing seats are now closest to the vestibule. Rather than the window. I like the propulsion. And the indentation on the back of the seats remind me of the seats on the XN40s and 60s....

  2. I just noticed that.

Thank god. Now if they make the storm doors easier to get through without dislocating your shoulder, I'll be happy.

Ohhhhh now I totally understand the whole business with key. I noticed it, didn't know what you guys were talking about. lol. Well, the B-end storm doors are powered.

  3. No, the post states the first 8 cars will be tested in pueblo, then the first 14 will be tested on LIRR property after the initial 8.

Yeah from September to December (Q4 2017) is when they will be tested on LIRR property. Which is what I reiterated above.

  4. Thanks! is that when the units will arrive in Pueblo, CO?

That's when they are scheduled to be tested on LIRR property. There's a post in this thread has the schedule.

  5. Considering i'm a musician and can't hear the motors at all, I wouldn't assume anything.

I would also like to add that Mitsubishi is doing PART of the propulsion, however I guess it's not the same as the M7.

They're doing the propulsion controllers and electrical equipment.

Perhaps not EXACTLY like the M8. The propulsion on the M7s is much more audible compared to the M8s and this.

  6. Cause MTA logic

LIRR = Pay more + Shitty service

MNR = Pay less + Better service

MNR is certainly more equitable. They don't charge peak fares if you travel only to the Bronx. I was doing some research, A ride from Fordham to New Rochelle is only $3.00 and, to White Plains. All day, everyday. No peak fares here. But, LIRR is whole other story. If you're traveling to the city from Nassau County, you're better off with NICE and NYCT. And NICE is not nice.

  7. Peak riders already pay way too much. I agree with VG8 it's odd that there is no discount, and 6 months doesn't justify anything IMO.

You're correct, none of those reasons that I stated, do justify it. This an example law of supply, more people riding during peak hours means charging more. Moreover, let's look at the bigger picture, LIRR fares are ridiculous all around. $5.75 Off Peak and $8.00 Peak for a Zone 3-Zone 4 (I.E. Jamaica to Valley Stream) ticket is ridiculous.

  8. The Ten-Trip tickets are transferable which means you can use them for multiple people in your party. According to an LIRR conductor I asked, It used to be that you couldn't use them for other people. Also, Compared to the O/W and R/T tickets, the 10-trip is valid for 6 months as opposed to 60 days. I guess that's why the MTA feels the fares are justified for the Peak ten trip ticket.

  9. I like the yellow better. It'd be nice if there was a blue stripe along the sides like the M8s. Instead of the one in the rendering.

  10. I find that on the LIRR they are cracking down on this recently, I've been on the train from Lynbrook to Freeport and to Long Beach they always stroll through and check.

What happens if you get on a train and don't have a ticket or cash or card on you. Do conductors usually let you ride for free?

They give you an invoice in which you have to send a payment.

  11. The monthly MNRR passes could get any uglier. They picked this odd purple color and the ticket collectors can't see to read them to save their lives. The February one was ugly as well, but at least the print could be seen from a distance. Now they have to hover over you to see them. I also wouldn't ever consider using this as a regular Metrocard. The paper stock for this particular pass is atrocious. So flimsy looking.

Yeah the paper would wear off in short period of continued use. Especially, with the fareboxes on the buses they sort of peel the plastic MetroCard.

  12. So its 187 Pl and then Francis Lewis? I don't know why those buses don't just make all local stops like the n6

I was looking on Google Street View I see the 187 PL stop it says n22 and n24 but, you proceed East, the stops only say n1 and n6. So, I guess that's the way it is. On that note, It seems they got rid of the Dalny Road stop going west. The clever device doesn't announce the stop and it disappeared from the transit app..

  13. Its all because Ed mangano refused to raise property taxes. The parking ticket was because he wanted to tack a Public Safety fee ($105) ON TOP OF the regular ticket price ($100)

Nassau County is trying to make everybody pay but themselves (State, MTA, Transdev profits) BTW do anyone know which stop in Queens does the n22/n24 stops to pick up pax west of Francis Lewis? I was trying to board the bus at 189 St/Hillside where the sign only says n1/n6 and the n22/24 both bypassed the stop despite transit app saying they would stop. I ended up transferring at Hempstead Transit center

    187th PL.

  14. I don't think this idea to give low-income families some level of discounted (or even free) rides is a smart move financially. While I do understand that these people do need cheaper transport, the issue is that NICE does not have money to throw around. The first priority of the network should be to retain as much service as possible, especially considering the budget constraints that the system currently faces.

However, I have heard that some other systems (one example being King County Metro in Washington State) do have some form of discounted fares if a household is below a certain income threshold, those systems tend to have one thing in common: a reliable source of funding. NICE does not have that.

Yes, I'll concur, they need to prioritize funding for the system.
