  1. I'd pay a weeks wages just to know if I passed that OPA. The wait is killing me.
  2. I wonder how the 2 parts of OPA are combined to get a score, is each half exactly 50%? Also, will it take several month to get a score.. or will we find out only when the list is published.
  3. Just came out of the OPA exam, had around 35 people. Took 3 hours, counting wait and paperwork etc. There are 2 parts, 1st part is a recording for the entire class, once audio is played - only then can you look at 5 questions which you mark on a scantron (2 min allowed to answer all 5 and mark them, be quick). 20 total questions split into 4 parts. I don't feel great about how I might have scored. 30 min total. 2nd part is 1 on 1, examiner reads a scenario and shows you one picture. You answer his question. 10 such pictures. Easy stuff. Maybe 10 min total. I hope both parts are averaged to count toward the 70 passing score. Don't ask me for exact questions. I'd say it's a good idea to find some audio memorization type practice tests. They said results will be mailed... no ETA, so more waiting.
  4. See Young's post here http://www.nyctransitforums.com/topic/47706-conductor-exam-6601-open-competitive/?page=38&tab=comments#comment-934003
  5. Going in tomorrow for my OPA, changed to an earlier shift at work today so I can get proper rest tonight. Don't forget your $25 money orders people. I have a feeling some will be turned away just for that.
  6. The letters some top scoring people are starting to receive is for the Oral Proficiency Assesment as covered in the notice of examination.
  7. I'm working access-a-ride, our uniform is dark blue pants and blue shirt.. trying to copy transit, so that's what I'll wear. Not going shopping just for this. Main thing is to get enough sleep, which will be a challenge with my 12 hour shifts.
  8. I have the earliest possible date, doesn't always pay to be a winner lol
  9. I left mine blank, plan to fill it out once I get there.. however, when I had to pay for the Electrical Helper exam, money order was supposed to be made out to "MTA NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT"
  10. Also went for electrical helper SPA a few days ago. I don't think that fingerprinting was part of a background check, its just something they do for every "exam", even though (as you pointed out) there was no multiple-choice test. the notice of examination said that we're judged based on "education and experience" only. it is strange indeed. at least your experience is solid. Sadly, I don't have any new information to share, just waiting for a call back. I'd prefer this position over any other exam i've applied to in the past 2 years. That NOE also said that people will only be called for SPA as vacancies occur, so maybe thats a good sign, however, I found that they used that language on other exams so don't know for sure. Did anyone else hear anything about this exam?
  11. Cant find it right now but this might help http://www.twulocal100.org/sites/twulocal100.org/files/pay_rates_by_title_2017-2019.pdf
  12. dont know if anyone would find this interesting but i put together a list of self-reported preliminary scores from people provided in this thread and one other forum http://textuploader.com/djm24 at the time i wanted to get an idea of distribution of scores its based on 55 self-reported mentions of scores for this exam
  13. The only people who received letters so far seem to have had less than 4 wrong, also based on your early scheduled date of Oct 4th (only earlier I've seen is 2nd) you should be in good shape, maybe 1-2 wrong max. We should get our scores by end of the year. Just my observation though.
  14. Exciting times, I'm so ready to leave my 13.50/hour dead end job. Already requested day off for Oct 2nd. Also have electrical helper exam in play now. mta sure like to mess with us.
  15. btw, who should this money order be made out to? or they dont have names.. i forget
  16. Also received my Oral Proficiency Assessment letter to report to Livingston on Oct 2nd. Going over preliminary scores of other people in this thread, it seems that OPA letter dates are sorted by score. Just for fun, I put together a breakdown of scores based on self-reporting in this thread and few city-data posts: 100 = 3 or 6.12% of all (49) people 97.50 = 3 or 6.12% 97.50 = 5 or 10.20% 96.25 = 12 or 24.48% 95.00 = 11 or 22.44% 93.75 = 4 or 8.16% 92.50 = 5 or 10.20% 91.25 = 4 or 8.16% 90.00 = 1 or 2.00%
  17. In case someone runs into this question in the future. The "Safety Proficiency Assessment" turned out to be 100% oral comprehension lasting no more than 10 minutes.. no technical questions.
  18. Thank you both for your input. From Notice of Examination http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/pdf_exams/7609.pdf Safety Proficiency Assessment: If you pass the education and experience test, you will be scheduled to take the qualifying safety proficiency assessment as vacancies occur. However, based on the projected number of vacancies, it is possible that not all candidates who pass the education and experience test will be scheduled for the qualifying safety proficiency assessment. A score of 70% is required to pass the qualifying safety proficiency assessment. In the qualifying safety proficiency assessment you will be required to demonstrate the following abilities: Oral Comprehension – The ability to understand spoken English words and sentences. Oral Expression – The ability to use English words or sentences in speaking so others will understand. Also, my dad is a Signal Maintainer, he says that it'll be a panel of three guys/gals and they'll just have a conversation with you - not about anything overly technical. I really hope it's mainly focused on English and something like culture fit (not like i'm applying to Google but anyway). Because I don't have a year to study for your extensive list Dave. =) Another interesting thing is that this NOE is all about "Type of Test: Education and Experience Test Test Date: N/A", instead of a multiple-choice test like years past.
  19. Hello future transit workers. Could someone please explain what's to be expected at this letters appointment. It's called "Safety Proficiency Assesment (SPA)", is this a multiple choice test or like a job interview? Will I be asked technical questions like OHMS law etc. Do I have any chance at this job? Including a link to the letter (minus personal info). https://imgur.com/gallery/I2CDE Thank you!
  20. eh so i have 12 wrong out of 60 which puts me at 80%. ran out of time for last 10 questions. had a bad cold and took too many cold meds - big mistake at least i should be good with Conductor - whenever that comes out
