  1. Join the club...been in one industry since I was 17...I'm now 29...excited and nervous don't even begin to cover it...especially since today I walked out that door for the last time both figuratively and literally. And you have more of a lag between swearing in and starting than I did (which I don't envy...I'd drive myself nuts lol) ...try to relax, and May 14th will be here before ya know it 😁
  2. Seriously, my list number is 25xx and I went for the OPA - CALL THEM AND ASK QUESTIONS, especially if you're sub 1k...they're not perfect, the letter could have gotten lost in the mail.
  3. Thank you both - I ended up going with the ones I linked for the time being (25% off at Shoes.com plus free shipping woohoo...lol). Might get some different ones so I can feel like I'm switching it up while wearing the same thing every day, but that can obviously wait til I get situated in the title.
  4. They do have ones that look like actual work shoes too...you just have to sift thru the ones that just look like all black versions of their sneakers... https://www.skechers.com/en-us/style/76503/work-caviar-ii-sr
  5. Thank you, that was exactly the information I was looking for. I will likely go the Skechers route since the other half likes his safety shoes they make - plus every other pair of shoes I've bought of theirs has been comfortable lol
  6. Any of you that have already started...since my experience with starting class and uniform ordering, etc is 2nd hand info from RTO titles: Do they issue you shoes with the uniform? Trying to gauge how much to spend on the shoes they tell you to have for the first day...if they don't issue shoes then obviously I'd buy good shoes right off the bat. I know a lot of RTO people hate the TA issued safety shoes and get their own and have them inspected, so I guess the next question would be if they *do* in fact issue shoes are they actually comfortable?
  7. AFC was definitely on my paperwork yesterday, I think that's just the official title of Station Agent, and ya know...nobody wants to say I'm a Station Agent - AFC. This is the post everyone keeps talking about: https://hcm.mymta.info/psc/HCPRD/SELFSERVICE/HXMS/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_APP_SCHJOB.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_JBPST&Action=U&FOCUS=Applicant&SiteId=1&JobOpeningId=92557&PostingSeq=1 It's not an off the street job, you have to already have been a station agent. A lot of jobs, including Conductors and Train Operators have desk jobs you can transfer into if you want to. By reading the posting you can see why it would be appealing to someone...especially if they're working the extra list and being bounced around...the hours are a lot more stable.
  8. All sworn in and ready to go for 4/9! Yeah station agent AFC is on that payroll printout with your pass number & employee ID they gave me stapled to the sheet that tells you where to go on the first few days.
  9. Oh wait you're talking about that thing on the actual job site? That's for people who already are station agents...from the vague job description it sounds like an office job that handles the pick. I still stand by Station Agent AFC being listed on the pre-employment letter though lol
  10. I'm 99% sure that's what position was listed on my pre-employment letter when I got it.
  11. Maybe you're in the May boat then? March class started Monday - so maybe you'll hear after April starts.
  12. Saga time: 10/30 - allegedly first elusive email was sent a week later for December class...they sent it to the wrong email Then 2/7 for the pre-employment stuff again since at that point they had filed my initial packet and the first drug test was long expired - then 2/20 for another drug test since I was apparently being considered for "April or May depending on list number" and the drug test I took 2/7 would be no good for May - I was told that class starts 5/21, but seeing as I was told April's started 4/16 and now my final processing stuff says 4/9 - maybe May will get pushed up too?
  13. Me: Initial, then it expired because they sent final processing to wrong email so I went for #2, then a week and a half later they called and said I was being considered for April or May class and my 2nd test would be no good for May class. Basically you have to have been tested, sworn in & have started class before 90 days is up or they have to test you again.
  14. Nah, those are good for 90 days. If they want to final process you and it's no good they'll contact you. My problem was they sent the first final processing email to the wrong address. So I went for test #2 and pre-employment again on 2/7, then they called me and said "Well, we might stick you in the May 21st class, so let's send you for another drug test so you'll be covered for that, and that's why I was back down there on 2/20 At that point even the guy at the counter was like "weren't you just here?" lol
  15. Last time I called, the next day they called to send me for whiz quiz #3. Hope that means we hear something tomorrow then
  16. FWIW I gave them a call today and was told "nothing has gone out".
  17. Anyone who went for the whiz quiz on 2/20 hear anything yet or do you have dead air and an empty inbox like me?
  18. Yeah, I thought with the last contract it went to 7 years for top pay, especially for the noobs.
  19. LOL me too, and I have TWO copies of it. Obviously I'll bring the more recent one. That's how I entertained myself waiting for the drug test last week...recopying it. Maybe tomorrow will be the magic day? (I hope.)
  20. As usual, both titles have more responsibilities than the general public knows - which generally think they're the reason the train is late, this guy just pushes buttons, how hard can that be? Operating a train doesn't even begin to cover a T/O's job description. As for that article, which pointed out the horrendous retention rate of open competitive T/O's - I truly understand why so many people don't make it and why they want to make it a promotion only title. I took the last O/C test for T/O and honestly, I would be absolutely terrified of failing out and not having a job if I came in off the street. Hopefully I'll have a few years of tenure by the time that call comes between S/A and Conductor School car for them is 9 months - a hell of a lot longer than conductor, and the detail of stuff you have to learn is insane, and it's difficult for people who have worked there in various titles for upwards of 7 years - so people off the street are definitely at a disadvantage for sure.
  21. Sure is directly applicable to conductors when they start throwing conductors under the bus for opening on the wrong side as well. That article was not 100% T/O screw ups.
