  1. Next: Due to Fastrack the , , and are closed between Columbus Circle and Chambers Street. Remember, you can't reroute IRT trains on BRT or IND lines. Reroute away!!!
  2. I have my doubts about the Roosevelt routing. The future of the Q48 (which runs along Roosevelt with the ) has been questioned within these forums. There's no need for another bus on Roosevelt, because one bus is plenty.
  3. Back on topic . . . due to high tide from a hurricane, the bridge linking the to Rockaway has been declared unuseable. At the same time, the Whitehall Street, South Ferry, and Bowling Green stations are out because the tracks and stations need full repairs after flooding from the hurricane. This is ten days after the storm, but the Broadway Junction station is still unable to restore power. Please reroute the , , , , , , , and Rockaway .
  4. Annexing to the Concourse line at 125th Street makes sense only if you are planning to have a 125th Street local. The Bronx branch would then have its last connection with the 125th Street branch at 116th Street. I agree that the 3rd Avenue extension should be number one on the SAS extension wishlist, even though extensions to Brooklyn and 125th Street would both be extremely useful.
  5. That is an interesting video. I heard that the War on Grafitti was favoring the by the mid 80's, but after looking at that video, I guess not. I'm certainly glad that I don't live in that era of the NYC Subway.
  6. As for the scneario above, here is what would happen: : 8th Avenue Express (as usual) and Fulton Local. (runs on the same tracks as the in that part of Manhattan): Service is suspended. : 8th Avenue Express. : 8th Avenue Express : Metropolitan Avenue-Myrtle Avenue Shuttle
  7. That's part of what I don't like about the current plan for the Second Avenue Subway. Yes, part of the goal is to reduce crowding on the and . The other goal is to expand transit options to areas that don't have them. The Second Avenue Subway has so much potential to expand those transit options, yet that is unlikely to happen.
  8. This is true, but the runs through upper Manhattan, which is much closer to parts of The Bronx or Brooklyn in nature than other parts of Manhattan. I'm not sure if I can say the same for the . What does that leave us with? A SAS that, even if it is built to Hanover St, will be slower (no express service), not as useful (no service to outer boroughs), and overall more of a liability than a benefit. Why would people want to move to the SAS when the and are faster? Why would people want to take the Manhattan shuttle when they can get one-train rides on the or from Brooklyn or The Bronx to Manhattan? This is why service should go beyond what is proposed. It has the potential to serve areas that need a subway (3rd Avenue in The Bronx, 125th Street in Manhattan, and southern Brooklyn east of Nostrand). If this ever happens, it would take care of the crowding issue because the line would run parallel to the and/or throughout its whole route. At the same time, it would bring new riders. Unfortunately, this would require a lot of money that the currently doesn't have.
  9. I have no problem with the Q37 extension, as long as 2 out of every 3 buses terminate at Kew Gardens. If you run all the 37's to Queens College, you will have 5-minute headways during rush hour. That is WAY too short of a headway, as the Q74 was a bus with 15-minute headways during rush hour for a reason. It is overall one of the best ideas I've heard for merging a line with the former Q74 route. There won't be a need for extra buses, so that would make the happy.
  10. As long as Nassau County remains a financial basketcase, I see little change to the current situation.
  11. If a loop is what we want, why not just extend the along the current LIRR freight tracks to Jackson Heights? It's not likely to happen, but it would be much more cost effective than a loop.
  12. The Triboro RX is more likely to happen than a loop of a line. At least most of the tracks are already in place with the Triboro RX. You can't say the same for the the loop of a . However, I am not convinced that the current is fine as is. It has no express tracks and no services in outer boroughs.
  13. The R42 only roams around on the in the summer. I've also seen quite a few R32's on the . I'm not sure, but I think they do this in order to keep the AC's on the R32's from running overtime on the during the summer. It's a treat, though.
  14. Here's another one: The 59th Street tunnel gets flooded due to a massive rain storm (4 inches in 3 hours). Running extra trains in the 53rd Street tunnel will not be an option, as there are emergency repairs in that tunnel. The 42nd Street tunnel is not a viable alternate, because 7 service is suspended due to flooding on multiple portions of the track, due to the same rainstorm. Anyone who tackles this will need to address service on the E, F, M, N, R, and Q. I should also mention that everyone needs to be practical (not having 30 TPH in the 63rd Street tunnel). Have fun!!!
  15. Next: The 59th Street tunnel has been flooded due to three inches of rain in two hours. 53rd Street is not an option, as there are emergency repairs in that tunnel. Bonus: The 7 is not an option, as the line is suspended due to flooding on several sections of the line, due to the same rain storm. Change things on the E, F, M, N, Q, and R. Have fun!!!
  16. I don't know about the Q14 and Q34, but this would definitely work with the Q74. The frequency on the Q20b is quite similar to what it used to be on the Q74.
  17. Shuttle busses would be used. There would also be some extra buses on the streets that have these subways (Ex: The Q60 on Queens Blvd).
