  1. The Bx46.

As someone who resides in Inwood and has heard stories about the passengers that serve the M35, no thank you on a merger with the M100.

Regarding the M98/BxM1, still trying to wrap my head around how you would extend the 98 into Inwood when it operates on Fort Washington Avenue.

  2. On 6/22/2018 at 6:20 PM, Via Garibaldi 8 said:

All three make sense.  They're supposed to be shuttle buses.  What can happen is if you make the routes too long then they become bogged down and are no longer shuttles.  A few weeks ago when the Broadway Bridge had two lanes closed Northbound, there was a huge back up in bus service.  You had shuttle buses running really in just one direction and nothing in the other which obviously causes large crowds and back ups.  I personally think that they should only run artics on all three branches, but that may not be feasible.

They can't run artics on the St. Nicholas shuttle because they do the same turn as the M3.

  3. He seems to be talking about unofficial drop-offs... Usually that's the BxM4... Depends on the driver though... We have lots of newbies now and most are by the book.

I was talking about you specifically as I bolded part of your statement, but I think Turtle answered the question.

  4. With drivers that I'm cool with they'll outright off to drop me off where ever, regardless of when it is, esp. if no one is on the bus.  On occasion their offer my work for my commute, but usually that's not the case,  and yes, you have some B/Os that are outright a-holes because they play the sexist crap where they will make exceptions for females but not males.  What irks me though is passengers that think they're supposed to receive car service.  We have a guy like that on the BxM2. He may or may not be an (MTA) worker, but he is disabled and since his building isn't exactly where the bus stop is located, he often requests the bus to stop literally in the middle of the Henry Hudson Parkway Service Road.  Some drivers do it and pull as close to the curb as possible to accommodate him since he's a regular, and others don't, citing safety.  He got really angry with a buddy of mine and started filing complaints saying that his request was during times when you can request a stop.  The B/O countered that the area he wanted to get off at wasn't safe (definitely isn't) and he didn't want him getting injured trying to get off. Eventually the guy apologized for being so obnoxious and has since just requested to get off at the actual bus stop.  His building is only a short walk away, but I suppose with his disability it is still a hassle.

    What route is this?

  5. As someone who actually lives near the M98 and takes it on occasion when not on an express bus, i'll make a few points:

You can't comment on the route when you don't live in the borough or ride the route (see the avatar with a B in it)

The M101 is not easy to get to. There's Fort George Hill by the first stop and Yeshiva University along Amsterdam Avenue. Taking the M98 away would only overcrowd the M4 even more and likely make some M101's (those that choose to take it) even worse.

The M98 should experimentally be full-time. If it doesn't work, cut it back to part-time. It sees enough ridership to warrant this and definitely has no business being eliminated. It really gets crowded along 178th.

  6. I'm bragging because I pay my fare? Now that's funny.  My point was that we all have needs and wants and I prioritize those accordingly.  Since we're talking about people with so much money because they actually pay their fare (lol), I'm sure most of the fare beaters are wearing more expensive clothing than a lot of folks who do pay their fare, yet they cry poverty.  Please.  Whatever the per day cost is for that monthly card, it's still under $2.00.  I can't think of anything I purchase during the cost of the day that is that cheap.  Even my espresso is more expensive than that at $3 - 4 depending on the location.  I think that's a damn good deal.

I'd also like to address your Trump comment.  I'm sorry if the man irks you because he's rich and brags (he should because he's an example of the American dream), but I don't know of too many poor people living on 5th Avenue in their own building, not to mention his numerous properties elsewhere.  Who cares about Bloomberg?  Old fart......

Hmm... That's not what I read before.  Seems like you're not sure what you're saying, but anyway I'm happy you're paying your fare. As for the BxM1 going via Inwood, it's been a hassle, and yes I would love to have them stop running via Inwood as much as possible.  The trips take far too long with all of these people getting on who don't know which Metrocard they need.  Here they are with a regular unlimited card arguing with the driver about they can use that for the express bus. Just last week we had a guy get on at 96th street twice feigning ignorance about where he was going and how to pay.

Since you asked a question with the word, i'll answer it: No, you're bragging about stuff when you mention espressos, Whole Foods anything else that is strictly for the 1%. Your complaining about buses going through Inwood is coming off as whining because you're delayed a few extra minutes that make no difference in your commute. OK, people should realize which card to use, but that's the job of the driver to explain it. The example you cited was extreme. Without getting too political, Trump is rich due to his businesses, not the American dream. Let's just put it out there: his father gave him a $1 million dollar loan. We should all be so lucky. Finally, you say "I don't purchase anything during the cost of the day that is cheap". That's correct because you have close to seven figures, which is fine as you earned that money. However, most people are not in that category and yes $2.75 is a hassle to them. The (MTA) wants to raise the fare crying they have no money when we have piss-poor service, broken-down and dirty stations, overcrowded trains and buses and people within the agency pocketing money (and yes, I stand by that claim 100% as I did the first time I said it), but hey it's all good, right?

Seriously, let's end the discussion on this. Let's stop quoting each other on the matter. We're all from different financial backgrounds, different viewpoints and arguing on the matter only clogs up the thread unnecessarily.

  7. That sounds a little stalker-ish

I've studied Rick's excellent depot roster page many, many times.

You make special trips to those depots? Mighty expensive for someone complaining about the fare. lol

I said I could afford it. Read above.

^^^ Lol @ this guy, he will always find the chance to get you no matter what.

Used to it as it's par for the course. Here's someone complaining about the BxM1 going through my neighborhood despite him taking the other one. His comment wasn't the one that caught my attention, anyway. All in good fun, though.

Do u guys think the Bx22 should have limited service during weekday rush hrs and only local service on the ones short turning at fordham?

Sent from my iPhone using NYC Transit Forums mobile app

No. You can't have part-time Limited service on a full-time route.

  8. News to me.... I've never known Whitestone to extend south of 14th.

Apparently, looking at some of these real estate (and other) sites, I'm seeing as far south as 25th...

    *shrugs*

The neighborhood proper is located between the East River to the north and 25th Avenue to the south.

  9. I invest considerably in my transportation sometimes spending as much as $400.00+ between the express bus and Metro-North since I commute a lot. I could certainly think of other luxuries to spend that on. Ultimately it seems unfair for those who pay to keep paying for those who aren't. A monthly pass gives you access to unlimited subway and local bus rides. Even though the subways and local buses stink you're still paying well under $2.75 per ride. What's troubling is that some in our society seem to think that they don't feel responsible for their own costs. Supplement food... Supplement transportation, housing, etc. It never ends. I take a lot of pride paying my own way and would take on however many jobs I had to before resorting to social welfare programs.

A large majority of New Yorkers live paycheck to paycheck. That doesn't justify people not paying the fare. You have to plan your expenses accordingly. I have always been a workaholic going back to my college days... Always wanted my own money and didn't want my parents constantly sending me money. Teaches you how to be independent. I guess that's why the idea of having someone else pay for me to get around seems bizarre.

You made my point for me on both responses.

Yes, you have your own money because you earned it. However, notice what you said:

"I invest considerably in my transportation sometimes spending as much as $400.00+ between the express bus and Metro-North since I commute a lot. I could certainly think of a lot of other luxuries to spend that on".

Exactly. You have a lot of money. No offense, but this sounds like someone who is a rich, elitist.

"A monthly pass gives you access to unlimited subway and local bus rides. Even though the subways and local buses stink, you're still paying under $2.75 a ride".

Yeah, except not everyone can afford $31 a week or $116,50 a month. Luckily, I can on occasion, but the (MTA) has a hell of a nerve raising any fares. Perhaps they wouldn't be broke if they took a look at some within the agency who keep money (yes, that's a direct accusation) and did unnecessary projects. Point being, you don't ride local buses, so you don't know what it's like.

I do agree with this: "People are living paycheck to paycheck". Exactly the point the above poster who responded to my last comment. Some people who may be living here a long time may have seen a downturn in their finances and if you're living paycheck to paycheck, you can't spare ANY expense. Does that mean anyone should resort to farebeating? Of course not, but maybe that poster should be a little more sympathetic to the everyman instead of coming off as a cold snob.

  10. I don't understand why they stopped.  I mean people WILL pay if you enforce the fare.   Look at a line like the Bx41 which goes through some pretty rough/poor areas.  You would rarely see people checking tickets, and once they started checking, all of a sudden people started paying.  I don't buy this idea that people can't afford the fare.  If you can't afford $2.75 then perhaps you shouldn't be living in NYC.  I mean everyone knows it's expensive to live here.  The same people that fare beat have expensive cell phones, sneakers and the like, so it's a question of what they prioritize more.

It's kinda dicey for you to talk about money considering you have more of it than probably anyone on here and $2.75 doesn't affect you. In any case, some people have been living here their whole lives and the cost of living has gone up to a ridiculous rate, but that's a topic for another day on another website.

  11. Plenty of drivers do that if the machines are broken.  I have a feeling that the B/Os likely know or may be tipped off as to where the inspectors will be.  However, the ones on the M86 often tell passengers to make sure that they get a ticket.  There are way too many people running to the front to get on and dip.  When they read the sign at the farebox they then come to the conclusion that they don't have to pay and put their Metrocards away.  Some are likely too lazy to get off of the bus and get a ticket, while others seem so concerned about waiting for the next bus that they'd rather risk receiving a ticket.  Really incredible how dumb some people are.  The buses tend to run every 10 minutes, even late at night, so the waits usually aren't that bad.

The machines weren't broken. I got on at the same stop and got a ticket. This was at the first stop.
