  1. Regarding the above comments, i'll just say that sending the (G) in place of the (M) when it doesn't run is not a bad idea(weekends, maybe late night).

Here is the most recent article about the (G). The author is a board member of the Riders' Alliance:

    http://www.secondavenuesagas.com/2013/01/29/the-g-trains-chicken-and-egg-problem/

I think there are 3 key points here:

An out of system transfer to the (J)(M)(Z) and to Atlantic-Barclays could increase ridership if these folks know they had an easier way to connect to these lines. It's something that the (MTA) could explore.

A crowded train is defined as every seat taken and a quarter of the train standing. Well, some people put their packages on seats and since the (G) uses a fleet with two-seaters, does that mean the (MTA) considers a seat with a package as taken? If so, that's illogical and they need to seriously overhaul this definition of a crowded train.

The reason for low ridership is because, as the article says, they avoid the (G) because it doesn't run very often(which is true), waits are too long(definitely true. I know this firsthand) and that the (G) is always crowded(only point in the article that is not true). They can run more trains and cut wait times.

Simply put, I don't see the hesitation in at least experimenting with enhanced (G) service. As I mentioned, run it in place of the (M) when the (M) isn't running and maybe follow the points I and the article points out and the low ridership that is pointed out in above comments may or may not change, but if we on't try this, we'll never know. It can't hurt any line and any commuter. A moving walkway at Court Square is not the answer(threw that in as a random thought).

  2. I still don't understand why some heads want the (G) anywhere on the Queens Blvd. The demand to/from Crosstown is extremely tiny. And then what? Delay the (E), (M) and (R) trains trying to come into/from the station at all costs?

From what I have read, it has to do with the whole (M)(V) stuff from 2010. A few years ago yes, but people were not happy. Essentially, they felt when the (V) was cut and the (M) was consolidated to take it's place, the (G) was cut back and they felt it wasn't fair.

  3. Send the (G) to Queens Plaza. The (M) shares the express track with the (E) Forest Hills-bound. Move it to the local track with the (R), as they do when they share the local track southbound. Regarding tph and all that, you can figure out how to configure that stuff so the (E) still has good service and the (G) can terminate on the middle tracks.

  4. When it comes to the MTA, you should know by now that nothing is definite. However, based on the fact that the N will not be able to handle Astoria on its own and that it would be quite wasteful to run double the amount of N trains between Ditmars and Stillwell, something has to replace the Q when it starts running to 96 St.

    And the terminals?

  5. The present proposal has the Q running to the Upper East Side, later Harlem, the N as the Broadway express and the return of the W to help out the Astoria line. Using the T as a route now, all we'd be doing is shuffling the letters around.

I've heard rumblings about a return of the (W). Would this be a definite and if it returns, would it reprise going from Astoria-Ditmars Blvd to Whitehall Street or different terminals?

  6. Just a quick question-

Why is that when I was stuck in the chaos of no Downtown (F) trains, and stopped at Lexingition 59 St, I went into the uptown platform and found out that the (Q) Platform door was unlocked and I went inside. Just as I went in someone spoke behind me and scared me that I nearly fell into the track. He said what are you doing up here? I responded I was looking for the downtown (F), and he said that there was no (F) and that's this platform was for an extension of the (S). I said what (S)? He said that this platform would be for the new (S) service.

    And this is my question:

    Huh!?!?

    There will be a new (S) ?

  7. Good for you, now lets move on to the question without any further interruptions! Come on, John! You know better than this buddy! But good job with the trip(s)

    Good night (S)

There's no such things as interruptions on a Random Thoughts thread. Anything goes. When/if anyone has the answer to your question, they will respond because I don't know.

  8. From? The Bx12 is a Gun Hill Depot route(split with KB during the summer) and 6193 is a Gun Hill Bus.

I didn't know that, so that's why I said it was from Gun Hill. We don't all have access to that type of information regarding what routes use what depots in the summer. Also, I should know about what the 12 uses more than almost everyone here since I live a few minutes from the line and pass it almost every day. I see what equipment it uses and never saw that on there before.

  9. Why is everything lately on this thread about express buses, lol?

It isn't, and that's why there are plenty of Isham short turned buses serving just Inwood.... I guess you don't know about those... <_<

Not the point and yes, I know all about those short-turn buses(I got a picture of one). My point was to have more buses on the 7 in the area where the 100 used to help it out AFTER the 100 got rerouted. There's no reason the 7 should have more jammed buses after 207th.
