  1. Lights? No. Trucks (already done). That was the first job to take place before the cars were shipped off to Kawasaki for conversion.
  2. Corona, the train never left the barn since it went in.
  3. Actually no. The entire train has been receiving it's CBTC installation. It's the first conversion and it wasn't done at Kawasaki. All of the wiring and components are being installed in the barn at the yard and the CBTC contractor is onsite doing all of the necessary work as well as spot testing to make sure the wiring and components are properly installed and operational. This is basically Apollo 13. They are in uncharted territory so as the installation is taking place the procedure is being written. Once complete all of the following conversions should move with a better pace.
  4. The train that carries the rails will come out of Linden Yard via the flyover into Junius middle and access the switch connecting to tracks 1 and 4. Where do they currently have a need for continuous rail in the IRT? The only place I can think of at the moment off the top of my head is the Dyre line. When the new signals are installed on the line and if the count of those signals don't increase dramatically then I can see the purpose. Elsewhere in the IRT I just can't see the need. Signals require a break in the rail for proper track circuitry. The only other line is the 7 line and the move would not involve the IRT flyover from Linden.
  5. No it has nothing to do with the R188. It's a test of a work train carrying continuous welded rail to see if such move could be made with the train carrying the load from Linden Yard onto IRT mainline tracks.
  6. Ladies and Gents I can't begin to stress just out excellent SubwayGuy's advice is regarding yard posting while XY. This is the time more than any other to try taking a train into Baychester and seeing what it takes to stop any train on there mark in any weather condition and other stations as well.
  7. What everyone needs to understand about the long waits after taking the drug test is that you're running into vacation periods. In school car a lot of personnel responsible for training new hires go on vacation during the Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Year's holidays and also during midsummer. Hence why the class sizes are usually smaller during the mentioned times of the year. So if there's no room for you in a small class you wait until the next class and next available instructors. Right now with things revving back up again expect a week or slightly longer between drug test and phone call for medical. In your case NYTech2000 there is a chance and there's no shame in giving it a shot.
  8. When you report this Friday bring both letters! Even though Friday's appointment is for Conductor and you'd rather take the Train Operator position they may still allow you to take the drug test for Train Operator if you explain that's the one you'd prefer to take. Also getting that done and getting the call back for the physical in a week could be the difference between getting into the 2/24 class as opposed to the March class. Everything still will be based on list number order but if you are still within that order then you might as well squeeze your way into the 2/24 class just in case some people who are ahead of you don't respond to their letters. All letters state Yard. That's how they know to pay you at the entry rate for the position. Honestly it has nothing to do with the yards. That's a tough one. See that depends on what type of pension or retirement fund you are working with at the Post Office and your current age.
  9. There are some people who took both 8094 and 8098 and got called for 8094 as far back as 2 years ago and is finally getting the call for 8098. Now that not considered a promotion if they the OC for both tests.
  10. Let the TSS running the practical tell you how that part is going to work. However you still need to know the rule and be prepared to explain it verbally that you always cut away from the block and Add away from the block.
  11. Even I don't know what the plans are which is why I don't know why you can be so sure. Fact is this: parts are hard to come by for the 62As so turning them into sets would be the likely end game. Having all of these singles running around with compressors and other major components that two cars per set don't have when those parts are needed for the cars that do have them. Having said that. The refuse collection trains are in bad shape and the shuttle cars can use some back up as well as general work trains so who really knows what's going to happen.
  12. Plus a lot of "unjustified" overtime for all that work that people seem to keep complaining about too. In the end it would be unnecessary just for the sake of getting the numbers clean.
  13. I think you're referring to 804 at 239. BTW that signal in relations to track indication is a piece of junk. Signals dept has not maintained the indication display at all.
  14. No. Because the 7 is the only IRT line to run 11 cars. Are there some 5 car sets of 188s? Yes half the fleet. But to run those 5 car sets together as a 10 car train on any other line would render the remaining 6 car sets useless for service on the 7 line hence leaving the 7 line with no rolling stock to provide service. Just to cut someone off ahead of the suggestion someone may say that another line could borrow a 5 car 188 set to run together with a 142A set on the 4 or 6 lines. To which I will say it will not happen. One is CBTC optimized and the other is not. The electric portions may line up but glitches would be likely.
  15. I believe there may have been a bulletin issued not too long back that changed all "Proceed with cautions" to "Proceed with restricted speed and extreme caution" when pertaining to yard moves or movements within the yard. I would go with RSEC as you can't be penalized for going the extra mile. But it is vital that you do not forget to include: Be prepared to stop within 1/2 the range of vision, expecting to find the track occupied. That last line is a must as it protects the "Authority" against you fouling up the movement.
  16. When you go to the simulator, ask them if they have copies they can issue to your class.
  17. You likely saw 7856 And even that would be a little on the odd side since deliveries are done in number order. Currently 7852-7854 sit at 239.
  18. There is no bug. There really is no time to program the train as trains are typically in and out at Times Square. In all honesty the arriving conductor should preset it as the train is approaching Times Square to help save time.
  19. No because you can only sign and wait for them to follow through on the initiative. It then becomes why did they not act in a timely fashion.
  20. And that's the dangerous part of the game that gets played. They tell you, "just go buy your own" as a means to get you off of their backs on the issue but as I said before, if you slip and fall on a wet structure they are going to check to see what you were wearing and carrying. If it's no TA stamped and approved they will use it against you because they do not want to pay for you to not work even if it's not a contributing factor. They tried to not pay a surviving spouse death benefits because of worn TA issue boots, but if you tell then your boots are worn what do they do about it?....Please be careful with this. Those same Supts and TS-Supervisors will deny they ever verbally authorized any outside equipment if their feet were put to the flames....
  21. Because this job doesn't come with reassurances. You are your own reassurance. You have to believe in your ability to survive down here and your TSS is getting you acclimated early with this working environment.
  22. The problem with doing that is if something happens to you as in you get hurt and or die while wearing something such as gear that covers the body to that extent, they can and more than likely would deny worker's comp or death benefits even if the suit had nothing to do with why the incident occurred because they will claim the none TA issue gear was a contributing factor. They have been very selective and lacking in issuing the proper weather so I agree that there is a problem there but protect your income at all costs!
  23. Ain't that the truth! I can't say it enough. Doing this job requires some sacrifices at home. Whereas you may have just wakened to your alarm clock and gone about your business at your old job. Here you are required to make some sacrifices at home. Knowing the weather for the next day is a must. Having all of your tools and gear prepared, etc. But most importantly, knowing what job you have and what's involved with that job. Is it a put-in from the yard in the morning or before the second trip? Do you have a lay-up at any point. The weather factors into these things. The temperature is no excuse for not properly checking your train. Winter is a reality up here so wear thermals! This is all just to name a few. Proper preparedness is a prerequisite of this job!
  24. Why would they? They are not responsible for the train. It's a B division yard and they have their own assigned equipment to be responsible for.
  25. More than likely it was in the barn receiving it's road ready package. Top to bottom cleaning, removal of any signs and posters related to it's tests, advertisements and final systems checks as well as a software update if it wasn't done earlier.
