  1. So I got a little nosey and checked out the bridge closure that closed Kingsland St in Nutley (Clifton Commons) and detoured the 13 and the 192/199.  Bridge still has a lot of work that needs to be done along with some concrete pipes laying around.  Took a drive around to see if buses could’ve used the Commons as a detour only to find out that the Main Ave exit is a one way opposite Kingsland and there is a weight limit off said bridge.  Apparently the travel gods knew I was coming and decided to have an overturned truck on the Main Ave exit ramp off Route 3 East 😮.   So I guess the bridge closure will extend into September when completion was scheduled for July

Go on google reviews & you'll see a couple people stating that NJT should take over DeCamp - especially after how gimmicky it's gotten.... Even when they were thriving, I was more or less indifferent to DeCamp (I'm more disappointed in Lakeland, but that's neither here nor there)....

Lakeland’s local fares:  1 zone $4.00, 2 zones $5.00, 3 zones: $6.00.   I didn’t think to check if they went up with the recent NYC fare increase

One of the more interesting things that happened in pre COVID pandemic days was that DeCamp’s Union was in tatters, so Lakeland’s Union (ATU 1614) voted to take in DeCamp (along with Paratransit entities from Hunterdon County, Warren County, and Easton Coach in Pennsylvania).  It was a pretty enormous Union, but Covid hit and everything was decimated.  Things were so bad (to include half the drivers outright leaving after having been laid off or retiring) that the leaders of the 1614, a majority Lakeland leadership, resigned their positions (the president was in charge for over 10 years) and replaced by the DeCamp drivers.

Same reason why I haven't bothered planning any trips around Lakeland....

Funny you mentioned my former employer.  They run buses every 2 hours on weekends now so whenever I go chill out on gate 207 on Sunday afternoons, I see people that missed the 5pm bus thinking there’s going to be a 6pm only to find out (after me breaking them the bad news) that they have to wait another  2 hours for the next bus.

Another recent example of this is the reconstituted schedules on the weekday means the last bus for the 78 or 80 side leaves at 6:30 pm.  Again, I lounge out on 207 and some guy comes up (complete with 35 zone ticket) asking me when the bus to New Providence leaves. I tell him the last bus already left (not knowing about the fiasco at Penn Station). He insists there are more buses by showing me his Google (🤦‍♂️) schedule which shows the old 7:00 and 8:00 schedule.  Poor bastard was magically wishing for buses to appear out of thin air.  I finally had to send for the Lakeland dispatcher to break the bad news to him and another guy trying to go to Summit.  They would’ve been best served by taking the 126 to Hoboken and getting connections there but all hail the great Google schedule,  leading folks off a cliff one unfortunate soul at a time

Man, I STILL have that game for Genesis!!!! (crazy enough, my Genesis still works).... Fire Shark, Gunstar Heroes, and Vectorman (1 & 2), spent countless hours after school during my JHS days playing those games.... Hell, even right before I left for school in the morning.... Good ole times....

Believe it or not, the only reason I heard of Gunstar was this YouTube sports guy UrinatingTree (who is a Pittsburgh sports guy, mostly the Steelers) used the end stage theme to highlight a touchdown play

I finally asked where was the theme from to which I was directed by someone else

  5. While driving the 194 had someone ring for a stop and much to her chagrin didn’t get her wish as I sailed past and went to Newark Pompton Tpk.  “Why didn’t you stop?!!”  “Because I’m not supposed to”.  “I checked the app and it said you stop.  Every 194 I’ve been on stops at Mother’s”

“Miss, here’s a copy of the current schedule so you can keep up with all of the stops, which bus goes where, etc.  Enjoy the walk back, but as your consolation prize the sun is out.  Enjoy your day” •Cue Gunstar Heroes stage complete ost*

Lmao they spent all that money retrofitting Oradell just to abandon it in the near future lmao.

But I still think NJT not ordering 40 footers specifically for Oradell was a big mistake.

My (former) boss at Lakeland was trying to get 40s out of that order and got laughed out of the room

Lol at NJT running MCI's on the #125 due to the fleet change on the #119 though; the things that happen when your hands are forced.....

Desperation personified.  Waiting on that “do you know the 125?”.  I saw a Meadowlands paddle laying around Wayne (forgot which lines), forced hands in action again

Already waiting for the question from clerk/depot master asking if I know the 119....

  10. The weekday detour for most buses to and from Willowbrook Mall off Main Street onto Pompton Turnpike in Little Falls adds more buses (28, 191,794,705) to the 11/195 line up until Montclair Avenue.  When the detour first kicked off Little Falls gave no warning about the street closure (in true Jersey fashion), until I get across the railroad tracks (MOBO line) and there the sign lay.  Had to turn the bus wide and tiptoe through the subdivision to get back onto Pompton.  What a headache.

Like people read the sign anyway 🙄

They don’t want ops driving around with those signs confusing people during the non-summer months. Someone like me I dhd with a different sign everyday.

When I was with Community and ended my 756 trip at Garden State Plaza, people would run up to my RTS Novabus then up goes my 423 WILMINGTON sign, and they all have that precious wtf look on their faces....

Along with having some sort of fare card, and fares that don't make you nickel and dime it (literally), it would make it easier to use the bus and help entice some new riders. NJ Transit has really failed to get with the times in a lot of ways.

Soon to be in the making.  It’ll be interesting to see how that goes....

another thing that contributes to delays at NJT especially on the bus side is the farebox with the $ bills. You spend a good 30-40 seconds trying to put a bill in the farebox.

In which case the op would just hit the a button and send it on through.  It’s been several years since I operated an actual farebox in service
