This must be funded by bond or state money, since Prevost will be building these buses in Quebec and thus the contract would not met the federal 'Buy America' rules.

The Buy America Act does not affect Canada...
"Buy American requirements also do not apply to Canada for U.S. federal purchases covered by the revised World Trade Organization Agreement on Government Procurement (WTO GPA), to which Canada, the U.S. and 46 other countries are Parties. When bidding on U.S. federal procurements covered by these agreements, Canadian suppliers benefit from the same treatment as American suppliers. There are also exceptions in the Buy American Act for the acquisition of commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) items."

All vehicles not built in the country and bought by a public agency must be 100% funded without state funding or bonds. This order is 100% funded by MTA and not NY state funds or bonds.

  2. Question for the 2023 XD40 batch for MTA bus:

Ik LFS didn't get a test batch for MTA bus due to the NYCT order being nearly identical. Is 9355 supposed to be a demo unit of is the XD40 order for MTA skipping the pilot process, which almost doesn't make sense since the NYCT batch finished a while ago and probably needs to do some testing at ECH.

How was stengel short when they still have a surplus of buses at the depot? Are the Novas still having teething issues or is it something else?

Allegedly, the real reason is because of construction in the area closing certain streets, which makes buses take longer to head out. Dosent seen like a fleet shortage, more like service delays.

How is it ungratefulness? Just stop, cause here’s my reasoning. I’m just tired of the SAME buses for over a damn decade. Like the XD40s are in great condition too yet Casey Stengel got newer buses. Jamaica and QV always getting new buses. NYCT stay upgrading. I got excited once I heard MTA Bus was finally getting an upgrade cause we needed one here. So idk where you got ungrateful from cause I never once said get rid of them. Just send a few new buses our way. THAT IS ALL. It ain’t about ungratefulness one bit. It’s about how there wasn’t a change for a while and there will continue to be no change

I hope you know that NYCT and MTA bus are funded differently which is why it "takes so long" for new buses to arrive. Also it won't Kill you to wait a couple more yrs to see a new CNG bus in Queens those C40s perform better than a handful of newer buses today.

  5. If anyone is expecting a final plan by the end of 2023, don't count on it too much. Despite a "promise" to release it soon, word has it key personal and/or stakeholders are leaving the team due to dissatisfaction as well as others entering retirement. Therefore they have to add more people to the team in order to move forward. It's funny how the website was recently updated, but no update was provided to at least move the date to early 2024, which makes the MTA look like liars (nothing new)

We have 3 more months to see if the MTA chooses the liar path.

The Q12 averages around 6,000 to 7,000 people a day per week, with ridership being lower during the weekend. Monthly, it averages around 165,000 to 185,000 riders a month.

Pretty hard to say that people don't ride the line, especially since I've been on pretty packed Q12s myself, especially with artics.

Also gotta take down frequencies and such, and even calculating that it makes sense for the Q12 to be set up this way especially with off peak service not seeing as much ridership.

  7. Bumping this thread to talk about the Bx6 SBS, specifically its "extension to Soundview".

So allegedly it's supposed to be implemented by the time the Metrocard is phased out. However as of recently full OMNY implementation has been postponed indefinitely, which most likely means the replacement of the Metrocard is postponed as well. Do we believe that the Bx6 SBS extension will be implemented in 2024? I take it as a no especially since it seems like OMNY is nowhere near done with even implementing simple things like the fare machine.

Assemblyman Novakhov is holding a Transportation forum where you can demand answers from the MTA regarding their Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign on Monday September 18th at the Brooklyn School of Excellence, 23 Brighton 11 St. from 6-7:30 PM. Click on appropriate meeting in link below for flyer and details. There is an RSVP in the flyer.

Of course the MTA didn’t publicize this event on their website, yet they state they want to hear your feedback.

    https://www.nyc.gov/site/brooklyncb15/meetings/neighborhood-meetings.page

I'm glad Brooklyn is pressuring the MTA the same/similar to the Queens redesign. Hoping Queens will do something similar to this so we can get a somewhat accelerated timeline.

More often than not, those are in the shop too.

Doesn't help that one has been OOS for a while due to an accident that damaged the front end.

Hoping within the next 2 artic orders enough are ordered for spares on both the Q12/44 (even if the former dosent use them too much)

The Q30 back before the 2010 cuts use to run better from what I remember and it had overall had more service. Overnight service got slashed in 2010 and the routes frequencies were reduced slightly. Then when the QCC branch was created service past Springfield was cut and it seems nowadays more buses go to QCC than Little Neck.
The problem that I personally have with many bus routes especially those that share a decent part of its route with another route is that they tend to bunch together despite not being scheduled to do so and I deal with this all the time on my home routes the Q25/Q34.
One example I can give is I work in Long Island and during the evenings on my way back home I will sometimes take the LIRR to Jamaica instead of the n4. However my issue with taking the LIRR is occasionally I would need to backtrack to Parsons Blvd or down by 168th street. 99% of the time when I check bustime of course the Q6, Q8, Q9, and Q41 are always 15+ mins away and are scheduled arrive at Sutphin & Archer Ave at around the same time. Then I check for the Q54, and Q56 and sometimes it’s even worst for those routes. Then I check the Q44 and Q20 and or Q30/Q31 and I still see at least a 10 minute wait. Mind you this is pretty late at about 10pm but with the sheer amount of bus routes you mean to tell me they can’t run apart from one another to maintain decent headways so that if anyone needs to travel within Jamaica at that time of night they can easily jump on any of those routes and be where they need to be instead of being forced to wait for all these routes to arrive together. That’s why I’m personally done with the bus system. It works when it does but it can still be a real hassle getting around. Jamaica has so many routes that overlap but I still find it hard at times to get from one side of the neighborhood to the other and usually I just opt to walk because I end up out walking all those routes.

Literally happened with me rn and I walked from Hunts Point to near the Bronx Zoo without one of three Bx19 buses that are bunched together passing me. If you ask why so many people prefer a car than taking transit, it's stuff like this. No reason I walked for 30 minutes and not a single Bx19, one of the busiest routes in the city, has passed me when it's so easy to have dispatch have one of three buses skip stops and go ahead of the others.

Is there a reason as to why Charleston is getting 12? 12 is not nearly enough to kick out all the xcelsiors at Jamaica and frankly Jamaica having 5-8 xcelsiors left makes no sense.

Who said anything about KB not displacing units to JA? (Or anything about what these buses will re/displace in general, we know they getting rid of the remaining NGs tho)

  12. 3 minutes ago, Fire Mountain said:

They already explained how the 82 might work so all I would want to happen now is have the 82 NOT on hillside but instead via Jamaica running to sutphin Blvd. I’d be fine with that right there.

Another thing that you may not notice is the connection to the (F) if using Hillside. That's why a handful of Q110s also short turn there during the peak direction.

Does the MTA really save that much money, by ending the B46 at Fillmore Ave, three blocks short of Kings Plaza?

I was on an B46 that short turned at Fillmore today, The B46 local behind it was an Fillmore bus too, these runs end there, loop around and pull into the depot. There wasn't another B46 local to KP coming so I just walked the rest of the way.

That's the trick, go oos at Filmore and make you walk the rest of the way. That's the MTA way of being cheap. They rather do dumb things like that rather than go the full route.

  14. 4 hours ago, Fire Mountain said:

So they finna go through with the 82, but not an actual that could benefit or actually work 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Watch it have super low ridership and get cancelled by 2026

One, it's already pointed out it's not gonna flop as bad as you say it is, two the point of 30% of the redesign is to have more direct routes. By your logic, let's go ahead and discontinue the Q84 because it's almost the same thing as the Q4 and is a couple blocks away. Or even better, since the Q51 is coming let's just add local stops to it so it can cover the Q4 and whoever needs Jamaica just use one of the other Merrick Blvd routes.

So the MTA was fined $24K for not fixing the Michael J. Quill rooftop.

There is an article on the Daily News, but it is blocked behind a paywall: https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-michael-quill-bus-depot-mta-fine-20230903-zicl7r4j3fduxhr4otjixus53m-story.html

Read up earlier. It says if there is no improvement by Jan 5 2024 further legal action will take place. Love to see how this plays out because this is a 90% chance the MTA gonna be in court over this.

Yeah, highly likely their proposed Q54 will stick, because they have it making less stops (which is the one of the major sticking points of the entire redesign)....

Have it rebranded as a "limited"? I don't particularly agree with. A "limited branch" like the formerly proposed QT3 I agree with. Limited in the Queens redesign is just a fancier way of saying we gonna get rid of more stops. At the very least I hope they correctly brand the Q54 as a local.

How would you then route a bus via Throgs Neck Bridge? That’s a crossing that is not used by mass transit that could be used for network connectivity.

Most I see as a market is a bronx-QCC connector via Throgs neck and even that market is a bit iffy if not done properly
