  1. About the (2)(5) during weekends, isn't the (2) going to South Ferry 12 minutes since it's the (5) crew operating that line as well as the (5) with an 8 minute headways (as (2) train crews)?

No. Look at the weekend (2)(5) schedules. The former is still on an 8 minute headway while the latter is still on a 12 minute headway. One of the reasons why I really do not like the current weekend setup for both lines every time the Clark Street Tubes shut down, but Lance did say otherwise.

  2. The letter V can come back and be reused for a different service, such as a second 2nd Ave service south of 63rd St. Or as a South Brooklyn IND express between Jay St and Church Avenue. Nothing wrong with either of those. Obviously it wouldn't make sense to bring it back the service from 2002-10.

As long as it's either of those, then no problem.

  3. Lance, I assume you are a regular (5) train rider. I just want to ask why do they always switch the (2) and (5) Bronx terminals whenever the Clark Street tubes shut down? Any particular reason? I honestly find that setup weird. They should just keep the (2) and (5) Bronx terminals the same rather than confuse passengers.

  4. Service Change  Posted: 06/27/2017  5:50PM

Due to a train derailment at 125 St the following service changes are in effect:

a.png trains are running local in Brooklyn and Manhattan between Canal St and 168 St in both directions.

Some northbound a.png trains are running express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.

There is free shuttle bus service operating between 59 St-Columbus Circle and 145 St in both directions.

b.png trains are running on the q.png line from Brighton Beach and 96 St in both directions.

c.png train service is suspended between Euclid Av and 168 St in both directions.

d.png trains are running local in Manhattan between 59 St-Columbus Circle and 145 St in both directions.

b.png and m.png train service has resumed with extensive delays.

Expect delays in a.pngb.pngc.pngd.pnge.pngf.png and m.png train service.

    Allow additional travel time.

  5. i kinda wish for the (1) to run a bit more frequently during the morning rush than it does now. the "new" South Ferry station can actually handle 24 trains an hour, but yet the (1) is only limited to 19 trains an hour in the peak hour (entering Columbus Circle) according to the schedule/Trip Planner.

  6. Broad St Layup, where else?

Um no. Look at the track layout again and see. The (J) train would get delayed:

    http://www.vanshnookenraggen.com/_index/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/NYC_full_trackmap_16.pdf

They will more than likely be stored at the Canal Street Layup or Chambers Street Layup so that they don't get in the way of the 24/7 (J) train termination/origination at Broad Street. So it's actually more like Broad Street "Relay" because that's what the (J) train always does anyway.

  7. why not just have all non-isolated lines including the (1) and (6) run every 10 minutes (6 tph) every Saturday and Sunday from about 6 am to midnight instead of usually having some lines run every 8 minutes, some other lines running every 10 minutes and some other lines running every 12 minutes at either all day/evening long or at certain times of the day/evening like they keep on doing now?

they always seem to have an average of up to about 3 minutes (18 tph) every Saturday and Sunday on pretty much all four-track lines where the maintenance of the track and signals take place anyway. Hence the flagging and the rerouting of trains to a different line or opposite track going in the same direction

  8. i'm glad they are building a new repair shop at Fresh Pond for the upcoming (M) shuttle and i honestly hope the full (M) fleet will all be based out of there instead of ENY once this Myrtle Avenue Elevated Construction is over and done with

edit: i hope the said shop will not be taken down and make the whole Fresh Pond facility back to a just a yard (meaning just storing trains and that's it)

  9. A trains get priority over the C. The C is a local supplement of the A.

that's completely unfair and i really do not like that statement. just because it is a part-time or local supplement doesn't mean they should have passengers sitting in the train for a good 15 or more minutes just so a full time line can get priority.

  10. The R142s are updated on the (4). Arriving at each stop till the stop before the last stop, it'll announce The Next Stop Is instead of This is a train.

it might just be a minor glitch or error. i remember i once rode a Brooklyn-bound (5) train in Manhattan that was bound for Utica during the afternoon rush hour and it said "This is a Manhattan-bound (5) local train".

i remember also seeing some videos from the 2000s era of the R142A (6) trains heading downtown in Manhattan announcing "This is a Manhattan-bound (6) train" instead of "This is a Brooklyn Bridge-bound (6) train".

  11. sorry bro but ur 100 percent wrong. when I was at East New York yard few months ago supervision always tried to keep the CBTC 160s off the M line so they cant be caught up laid up in queens

Your right actually. I know somebody at ENY now and he said they was sending CBTC 160s if they had to out on the M today because they cant get caught in queens so it doesnt matter.

Exactly because about half of the (M) train fleet is stored at Jamaica Yard/Hillside Avenue Express tracks every night and every weekend till the AM Rush.

  12. OK, so back to my original question: why do they start at 168 St?

plus remember that during middays and Saturdays is when the (A) runs every 7-8 minutes in both directions (15 minutes east of Rockaway Boulevard) which means the line itself generally has 38-40 trainsets out in passenger service. But during rush hours, it has a total of 38 trainsets in the AM and 40 trainsets in the PM. In short, the extra trains that come out of the 207th Street yard and start service at either Dyckman or 168th in the PM make the (A) train's headways shorter than 7-8 minutes.
