Hello. Hopefully this is a welcoming environment in which I can share out my thoughts freely. 😀

Welcome to New York City Transit Forums!

A lot of the IND in general could use some repairs... Norwood is hell,  Lafayette is a prison, Culver after 4th-9th is rotting, 103rd has more plywood than concrete, and the upper Manhattan stations (168th and north) stink like shit.

and the platforms on the BMT Jamaica line rattle like an old person's bones. I have this nagging feeling that the floor is gonna fall one [c]rush hour in the not too distant future.

Maybe if the station agents didn't buzz in the trash they wouldn't smell so horrible. Right now, LA is dealing with diseases the world hasn't seen since the 13th century, and the situation in the subway will give eventual rise to a similar calamity.

How about rehabilitating numerous Concourse [<B> & (D)] stations @ 170th, and north of Tremont.

those are the mustiest ones, too. I suspect there's a lot of masonry damage underneath the tiles. If the city sustains another Sandy-like incident, there's a good chance that Grand Concourse service will cease to be.

First video is by Daniel Paucar, which is the first and only video of the reopened station for now. Second video is by JamaicaZ160, which is a video of the station's finishing touches.

Wait, they extended the platform? Finally.

    https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2019/03/07/leaked-documents-show-mtadot-may-bail-on-14th-street-busway/

The presentation is at the bottom of the article.

The Busway is still in play, but it’s not doing so well.

Transportation officials are still considering converting 14th Street into a bus-only roadway — though a presentation given to elected officials on Wednesday and subsequently leaked to Streetsblog described such a plan as “complicated” compared to a traditional bus lane.

The briefing revealed that the city Department of Transportation and the state-run MTA are looking at still looking two designs for 14th Street after having settled on a 17-hour, seven-day-a-week busway to mitigate the disaster of the L-train repair project, which has been radically reimagined. One would be the “Busway”: converting 14th Street between Ninth and First avenues into lanes for buses only, with taxi and local delivery vehicles permitted only to make drop-offs. That plan also calls for seven-foot-wide pedestrian expansions into the street. That plan has the support of transit activists who thought it would allow the city’s buses to move faster than the average New Yorker can walk.

The downside? According to the MTA/DOT, the Busway was more suited to a complete L shutdown, and is deemed a “complicated traffic pattern that may divert through traffic to other crosstown streets.” Opponents, who have threatened to sue the city and the MTA, say a busway would send car drivers onto local roadways in Greenwich Village and Chelsea, inundating those quiet neighborhoods with cars.

New York City Transit. Still at the mercy of heartless NIMBYs. 😔

These people can literally afford to jet. Even if I became well off, I can't imagine ever living below I-287 ever again. I can't coexist with that many egos.

IMO I think they dropped the ball when making the B44 the first Bklyn SBS...

it should’ve been either the B41 or B6 easily... don’t get me wrong the B44 is a good choice too but an SBS downtown Brooklyn to Kings Plaza is a no brainer if you ask me... and the B6 is just a beast busiest route hands down in Brooklyn

Brooklyn gets stiffed too much and they could use the most improvements. When B35 mentioned their political incompetence, he wasn't kidding.

Why do 2.5 million people stay in the company [at the mercy, I mean] of such incompetent representatives?

Well, I’m not and I’m from Brooklyn and understand Brooklyn politics. They act like they care but really don’t. Those B44 service cuts are right along those senate districts and city council districts.

Oh, I know they're ignorant, but I'm shocked as to WHY they are. Upstate frequently refers to the oversaturation of Kings County in the legislature.

That's not by accident. It's the largest of the 67 counties. Absent the Greater New York Merger of the late 19th century, it'd be the third largest city in America.

if they're that incompetent as you say, well -

    NO!

Too bad the Brooklyn delegation of Sheepshead Bay and Flatbush dont pay attention to cuts like Queens does (don’t debate me) and this is fact.

I'm shocked. They're practically dominant in the Assembly and every committee head in the State Senate is from Brooklyn.

Its not really an R179 discussion, so I quoted it here.

Once QBL gets CBTC fully implemented, there wouldnt be a need for the (G) to receive NTTs, as it doesnt run along QBL currently. However, the plan for the (G) to receive NTTs was due to the (L) shutdown, as the (G) would have gotten 480' (8-car) trains for the (C)/(J) to deal with the boost in ridership. As of right now, there isnt any plans for the (G) to get NTTs, but the assumption is when the R211s start arriving, the (G) will be getting the 480' trains that currently running on the (C).

Queens Boulevard is definitely a place that could make use of CBTC. How many of you get stuck for 45 minutes on end in the stretch between Parsons and Continental on any given Thursday?

  10. 6 hours ago, Lex said:

Put simply, much higher than what they've been running at.

That's good. I've heard that the (J) can run trains at 26 TPH. Is that still accurate?

I noticed CBTC infrastructure (namely those yellow signs) on the Culver section of the line in February 2018. Are they considering that corridor for CBTC? If so, what's the timeline for activating it?

Reader Note: I haven't rode any train into Brooklyn since May 2018.

No , they said they’re increasing the frequency instead of lengthening it

Isn't there a certain cap to how many trains you can squeeze per hour? That sounds like a bad idea. But I could be wrong.

What is the TPH limit for the crosstown?

  12. Now that they've axed the (L) shutdown, will they still lengthen (G) trains? They always seemed overcrowded anyway, and I know the feeling** of coming down to the platform on the staircase that's too far away to the train as its doors close. Are they still going to fix the tunnel using the 3-year plan?

**Although it's been a while since I've had this feeling.

Version 2 seems to work good with Limited and SBS routes. Seems too delayed to be for local use. If the contract is split, would've been nice to give V2 to buses that are gonna be used strictly for SBS. Such as the XN60s, the new LFSAs, ENYs XD40s and the next order of XD60s for SBS use.

Local buses should've received Version 4 because it responds quicker for stops that have a shorter distance.

Honestly they should've gone with Version 4 all along because it would've been perfect for all bus models. For the XD40s, you could've position them like the C40LFs, for XD60s/XN60s you can position the first small screen right behind the driver, the second right after the middle door on the ceiling, and the third right before the middle door on the ceiling. For the LFS would've had two wide screens positioned just how they are now.

Just my two cents, I feel like nothing gets thought through with the MTA. Just do and keep it moving. Who decides on the types of screens and the placement of the screens in the buses? Is it one person or a group of people?

That's a good way to sum it up.

Kinda like moving fast and breaking things.

Excellent news!! Good job by the Daily News for putting this issue in the forefront. The paying public NEEDS NEW buses that will be reliable and accessible.  For people that use wheelchairs, these RTS buses have been a NIGHTMARE. They often break down before the lifts don't work, NO AC, poor signage, etc. No good...

The fact that this bus can be in a museum and in operation is appalling. Accommodating wheelchairs on these buses adds 5 minutes to the trip every time. It isn't fair to them, and it isn't fair to able-bodied riders on a tight schedule. Flatbush deserves better and I hope they get better equipment.
