Artics are not always the best solution for improving bus service as it usually results in longer headways on that route.

I have been told this when I suggested it for the B41 Kings Plaza version. Not only the long headways, but it becomes harder to maneuver as many along Flatbush Av are half-ass at parking or idle in the middle of the road.

  2. An article was in the paper about the B46 Stabbing Incident today.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/driver-safety-rider-speed-easy-board-nyc-buses-article-1.3572448

I am supportive of more off bus paying so that drivers aren't wedged into scenarios like the one they talk about. But I also feel if operators are too passive it sends a signal that they're easy to overpower and backstab, as was the case with the B46 incident. I can understand why SBS for this route is so deserved and mostly symbolic.

However, an operator can still keep their lips zipped and call 911. Don't city buses have call pads that can dispatch the police?

Regardless of the backstory, anyone who farebeats tends to have the least appreciation for buses and operators should never let their guards down. I think the B49 can be redrawn to another avenue if it is to be saved, as the area it goes through is nothing short of depressing.

  3. Hey guys, I'm sure you've seen the new service change guide redesign, which is very refreshing.

DO you think, on the weekday version at least, that they should maintain the title bar colors from the old design (Purple for NIghts, Yellow for Days, and Blue for All Times)? It's kinda hard to sift from a distance even with dependable spectacles like mine.

If you're aware of the demographic that attends Yankees games regularly, you'll see that hardly anyone takes the Bx6 to go to Yankees games.

Yup. And that's why I am so concerned. I ran into them on the (4) . The most gullible, elated tourists ever.

Who said about going in? I meant going out. That's the hard part.

I would also check out the book "Routes not Taken" -- gives a good overview of the line's history.

If you want info on the current iteration, read the various EISs. They'll tell all.

I finished reading that this past summer. Excellent choice.

A lot of split interests have held transit back long before the MTA existed, and I think that book covers the issue well.

I got my copy at the Clinton Hill branch.

I hope whoever the idiots are that decided to start tomorrow's Yankees game at 4 pm let the MTA in on this. There's NO way service on the (4) and (D) during the 3-4 pm hour will handle all those stadium travelers plus the after-school crowd.

The :bus_bullet_bx6: shall be tested that's for sure.

I haven’t seen these new posters — are they finally doing maps of the service changes?

Even better - they use the Vignelli style with Arial Semi and region focus, which is a cutaway view of an affected service area in tandem with the reported change.

It would be interesting if it could be used to tell the Conductor don't be in such a rush to close the doors if the next train is 15 mins away and you see people coming up/down the stairs to the platform etc.

I kinda find that annoying too.

Y'know, I think such a system could be used to create mechanized walls between the platform, which is long overdue for our system.

The beacon tech could be used as a notifier.

I think the end cars should be better optimized for ADA accessibility much the same reason I believe there should be R-only buses.

That's because you sound like a busybody looking for trouble. Who the hell looks at a door and goes, 'Hmm, I could pick that with a sunroof rod?'

Careful - This isn't about me. Don't have a :bus_bullet_b35:-like temper on me now.

Besides, I don't need to look for trouble, as it usually finds me. Two timelines could exist where I am and am not a busybody and this city will still be f***ed.

Part of that was because they were so noisy. More people use them now that they modified that.

It's worth noting that the full body turnstiles can still be thwarted by two skinny people cramming through. Vegan Hipsters do it all the time.

Also, some emergency exit doors can be jimmied open with a sunroof rod. I've noticed some small padlocks hanging in some grates that can be used to do this.

I'm choosing not to report it because it's the job of employees to cover their own arses, and because even in the eyes of Rider's Alliance, I talk too much.

    So I won't. ):-}

and the (7) has yet to go online even though it was expected to go up in 2015.

I was told by a platform controller last June [2017] that CBTC is already on halfway between Hudson Yards and Woodside. I asked as a way to pass the time while the FDNY used jaws of life to remove a family trapped in an elevator and to avoid laughing with a constructive conversation.

Is there a way to reverse-engineer the beacon system for countdown clocks as bat-like sonar so trains can talk to each other, as well as platforms?

After having to rely on SCT for four years, I'm not sure about that. But I also don't have a lot of experience with NICE post-privatization.

I've rode a handful their buses a fair amount last summer. While the disinvestment is deplorable, the management is upbeat and nonetheless far more dedicated than the MTA ever will be.

Given the MTA's track record with the subways and their own buses, I would be against any takeover as the former are a proving ground as to why they should not be entrusted with the affairs of any agency let alone their own.

I spent that summer taking pictures of bus stops in Hempstead, Hillside, and some of the new interiors, which are very nice and still had their new bus smell the following fall when I lodged in Manhasset (North Hempstead). The n20G served that area.

No. There was already congestion on 8th Avenue. Plus the (M) was ending early when the incident started so it really didn't get affected by it except by 1-3 trains if any.

likely related to signal issues I mentioned in my status update just a moment ago.

And they're gonna want $3 from me in March?? Eff that.

They don't care. They'll scalp us all.

@N6 Limited they'll probably shrink the window of opportunity for people to speak up just to get one through so they can say, no one's opposed.

The MTA wasn't designed for success. It was designed to fail and pass the buck in an endless blame game.

Any member of the top brass will say what people want to hear until the bad news ends.

They existed on regular bus routes?

I agree with your inference. There are 278 bus routes but barely a baker's dozen SBS so this is yet more MTA waste.

20K people farebeat every year. Only 788 get arrested.

Paying is tough. When I fell short this summer, I walked. It was tiring, but exercise so I wasn't as bummed. I walked 5 miles and I didn't even know it once. Took 2 hours but I made it five minutes early and I don't run.

You're right, i was too general. However, there are a handful of areas in the vicinity of those el's that are neglected, odorous, and depraved of economic activity.

    kinda like an urban wasteland.

Maybe QR could be for single rides? It may be less expensive than single use RFID

I also saw that LIRR/MNR users would be able to use QR codes in a pilot.

It's possible they could rehash the QR code for the same ticket, because sticking to one could be a security risk as it could be replicated.
