  1. CDTA is making a bid to annex Montgomery County to the service area. It's a move that's welcomed by the County Executive, State Senator Amedore (49), Assemblyman Santabarbara (111) and numerous employers along Route 5S, including Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Amsterdam, the US House District Seat, is 15 miles from Schenectady to the West.

Montgomery County shuttered its transit authority in April 2018.

  2. CDTA has been awarded funding for the River Corridor BusPlus Blue Route, which will complement the 22, 182, and 370 when it opens for business in a few years. The contract is nearly $27 million.

BusPlus Red (905) is the most trafficked route in the system, with 3 million annual riders. The (1blue) comes in second at 1.5 million riders.

New Gillig batch delivery looks to be underway. Unsure of the full delivery numbers yet. 4183 was on the 214 yesterday and 4185 was on the 12 today. AFAIK those are the only two out on the road so far. Neither of them have permanent plates, only paper tags. Some interesting changes for the new 2019s. The seat design is different now with an all blue woven nylon texture as well as a completely new automatic annunciator voice. It's now a Male voice that sounds very robotic. Sounds fairly reminiscent to the "Stand clear of the closing doors please" guy on the MTA subways. IMHO I'm not a massive fan of the new voice.

I rode it last weekend as a 117 on my way to the Crossgates Mall. I really like the deat design. It's catchy and hypo-allergenic.

Some of those donors probably would never want to have to deal with the "unwashed masses."  These types would likely fear their safety among such, especially if they sense the "unwashed masses" realize such are rich.

True, but those who see their commutes become a lot longer would be upset and Cuomo thinks he needs those votes, particularly in New Jersey.  Rest of NYS may not care, but NYC votes count towards NYS.

and given this Governor only won a third term by the hair on his city-chin-chins**, he should try not to upset the largest constituency in the state (Kings County).

** - Why the Mother Goose reference? I mean this.

Agree.  This is all about Cuomo placating certain voters (and in the eyes of some, donors) he feels he will need in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut primaries in 2020.

Brooklynites' input be damned. This is what happens when we pander to irrational mobs.

  6. Someone mentioned about the timing between (1) trains terminating at South Ferry and missing the ferry by a few minutes because of the offset.

Do they plan on adjusting the Ferry or (1) times to compensate?

Also, I previously mentioned that the (R) (via 86th St in Brooklyn) can be used to connect to buses headed to Staten Island. While this may add as much as half an hour to commuters from the Bronx and Manhattan, the difference might be less if you're commuting from Brooklyn or Queens.

What are this community's thoughts on that now? And if you have a final destination in Staten Island, how do you cope?

  7. What I wished they did was put those students on the EasyPay program and simply have educational institutions subsidize the cost. This way you can have a card that works with Bee-Line and NICE and can be replaced if it's lost or stolen with the balance you previously had. I wish they streamlined it so that people didn't have to wait ten days, and that full fare customers could benefit from the dual use mode that seniors enjoy.

However, they will not work with PATH or JFK AirTrain (unlimited version).

Upstate, a system like that is already in place, called "Universal Access." My suggestion is more ad-hoc though. At the February 2015 public meeting at the Westchester County Center, I mentioned the above idea.

I'm really not a fan of those half-height turnstile walls or whatever they're called that are in place at the ESI stations. I've seen people simply reach over the wall, push the emergency door bar on the other side, and walk through effortlessly. It's almost like the MTA made it easier to beat the fare. I'm sure they could be come up with a stylish design that, you know, doesn't rob them of money?

That's a good point. They probably did. Guess they don't mind bleeding $300M a year. They'll make the hipsters pay for it.

  9. Several charters besides the Northway Express (NX) serve the capital region:

Trailways in Schenectady (no ridership data from me)

MegaBus at Collins Circle - UAlbany and Albany-Amtrak, Parking Lot B. Trips from NYC cost about $17 ($20 for preferred seating)

Greyhound in Albany. Trips from NYC cost about $17. Haven't rode in about 20 years.

  10. Mohawk Road and Glen Avenue, East [in Scotia]

(reminder - Transit app allows you to search for bus stops and train stations based on their ID)

    IMG_20180623_152346.jpg?width=196&height

These two bus stops have one other intersection in common: Rt 50 (North Ballston Av in this area) and Dutch Meadows Lane, and Liberty Park Station (the next and last stop from the above-pictured).

  11. As promised, now that I live up here, I'd be happy to provide you guys with updates on what's going on up here.

Here are a few photos from this past summer:

3rd Street and Congress St in Troy, NY

    IMG_20180708_134643CDTA-07116.jpg

Blue routes are trunk - they run all week and most frequently. Route 22 operates largely along NY-32.

Green routes are neighborhood - they run every day except Sunday for some. The 182 runs on Sunday, just once every hour. It operates largely along NY-378. I have rode the 224, just not into Troy.

Yellow routes are express. I have not yet rode such a route.

Those are pretty dumb reasons to report an operator, all because he had a different way of addressing and/or greeting you.

I know this lesson well. I kinda just fire back now. If they're taking their bad day out on me, I'll be sure to make it worse.

    And join them on their round trip back. ):-}

  13. @Daniel The Cool I've started putting these into a calendar file so that I don't have to go online to look it up. It's public and available to anyone who wants to view.

I've also started adding notes for Unlimited MetroCard Riders and confusing platforms. I posted the link earlier, but that's the import link.

The viewable link is here: Colors I added may not show:

I wasn' talking about bee-line or NICE bus...

Besides, all of bee-line buses have back doors that are automatically driver controlled (that's how they were spec'd)

that's kinda why I mentioned it, out of perspective or a seen-this-before viewpoint.

the (MTA) is known for custom orders, too. It's why the price of things go through the roof. Even the type of CBTC being implemented isn't exactly being used anywhere else in the world and was done to make up for the lack of space in tubes.

I've been on an X17J before that was charging standard fare instead of premium fare. After the first few ppl dipped, she realized the error and corrected it. I even checked at ETC to be sure I was never charged the UP charge.
I will admit tho I idk if the bus was signed up as anything else at time because I got on before her sign was displayed on the bus. But I kinda doubt it because I remembered seeing the bus earlier during layover displaying X17J.

    haaaa sneaky

    To further explain...

There is an "SBS mode" on the buses, but depending on the bus, it's actually labeled as such.

A simpler definition would be rear door mode. I'l break it down:

    Passenger controlled

The regular way the back doors are controlled. Once the driver turns the door handle to rear, the back door(s) unlock and the passenger pushes the door open themselves. Usually they would slam back closed (Novas not included) unless someone pushed the tape/bar/strip in which they would stay open until the driver puts the handle back to close.

    Driver controlled (SBS mode)

In this mode, once the driver turns the handle to rear, the back doors (the middle door on the artics count as a back door lol) open automatically and stay open until the handle gets put back to closed. Depending on the bus, it' called something different (touch tape bypass on the RTS, SBS mode on the Novas, etc), but it's all the same thing. Buses doing SBS routes (and to a lesser extent shuttle buses) are supposed to have their buses like this.

All it takes is a simple flip of a switch on the driver's panel. In your case, the driver turned the door handle to where the front doors would only open.

But like B35 said, that still doesn' stop people from yelling at the backdoors to open lol

It's worth noting once again that this is not tied to SBS explicitly. Bee-Line and NICE buses do this on all their routes, the latter mandating it (not allowing pax to exit without driver OK).
