Sorry that I’ve miscounted the R160B Siemens sets that were left at Coney Island. But, I believe we’re down to 135 Kawasaki R160B (Siemens) and 15 regular Kawasaki R160B sets, which would add up to 150 Kawasaki R160B sets in total!!

The only R160's left are the Siemens propulsion models...

What I want to know is when, if ever, will the R46s hit the (B)? I have my doubts on this happening since Concourse Yard usually only holds/maintains R68/As. I wonder what the future holds in this area?

Maybe very rarely, you may see one set of R46s on the (B) just by chance if no R68/A's are available, but I'm pretty sure the MTA wants to keep the (B) fleet uniform (R68/A's only) and there are enough R68/A's to keep the R46s off the (B).

    Why not 4 Av Express?

You obviously won't want to reverse at Essex. You could use the existing tracks from Chambers, then go under the (N)(Q) (not that hard as they are just about to enter the Manhattan Bridge

Not enough capacity on 6 Av, I think!

This is to prevent additional merge problems between the (D)(N) and (R) at DeKalb and to supplement (R) service.
That is exactly what I meant with the connection after Chambers.

If so, then it's possible to cut some (M) service or run some like (brownM)s to Brooklyn and have some (K) service go via Queens Boulevard like the (M). Then again, this was just an off-the-top-of-my-head ridiculous proposal 🤣

  4. I just had this weird (yes, I know that this will sound really weird and probably ridiculous) idea for a new (K) in a similar alignment to the (RJ) proposal... but with a slight twist.
A new connector near Bowery/Grand Street would have to be put into place in order for this to work, or you could be ridiculous and reverse the train at Essex. Anyway, here is my weird plan (probably very limited rush hour service only):
Orange (K) \ Sea Beach Express \ 4th Avenue Local \ Nassau \ Sixth Avenue Local \ Second Avenue

    Coney Island (D)(F)<F>(N)(Q)
    Kings Highway (N)
(Option to go local or express to 59th Street after)
    59th Street (N)(R)

All 4th Avenue Local stops to DeKalb, then continuing via the Montague Tunnel to the Nassau line:

    Broad Street (J)(Z)

All Nassau stops to Chambers or Canal Streets. If to Chambers, then a connection can be made to Grand Street (B)(D) , or of to Canal, then an additional connector before Bowery would have to be made. If both options unavailable, then the train proceeds to Essex Street and then reverses to the Sixth Avenue Line.

All 6th Avenue local stops are made to Lex-63rd, then via the Second Avenue Line to:

    96th Street (Q)

I kinda enjoy the R46 N. I live on the west end, but if I have extra time before school, I walk to 86 St to watch them leave the yard and crawl into 86 St. Then see the poster/ads crew swap out old ads with new ones. Through this, I learned that contractors replace ads (at least some of the time), which absolutely boggles the mind, but I guess the MTA has bigger fish to fry. The only downside to the R46 N's is that it no longer feels as special to catch the R68 N (which I haven't seen in forever anyway, does the N still have an R68? And is/was it an R68 or R68A? I still can't tell the difference without being told).

The easiest and fastest way to remember and tell the difference between an R68 and an R68A are their car numbers. All R68s have car numbers starting with 2xxx and all R68As have numbers starting with 5xxx, and yes, I've seen several R68s on the (N) recently.

Kings Hwy, today at 2:30 PM omw to a photo event. Got on the (Q) that was a R46 and the (B) that was a R68A arrived at the same time as the Q making the connection. Getting on the B, the C/R on the B surprisingly asked (with humor) the Q C/R "Is this really the Q or that the R went on the wrong way?"

*Even passengers at Kings Hwy asked the Q c/r if this was the Q train? Middle signs say N but some signs are blank with K.

What's funny is that I got on the same train going back at around 4:15 at Kings Highway. Some signs were correct while others still said (K)  / World Trade Center / 8th Avenue Local. People are still hesitating to walk on to this weird old-looking train Brighton riders almost haven't seen before.

Correction It was 8897-9013 set i operated that on my last half coming from STL last night..

Sucka had spotted wheels though.. Kinda killed my mojo with that Siemens propulsion...

Why is this still the only Siemens set at Jamaica?

    (and it’s 8893-8897 and 9013-9017)

i take that the (N) train r32 final run roster is fake?

Yes. Someone was just trolling typically.

Of course... I really hope the (MTA) comes to the realization that they need their R32s or else they're going to have another car shortage until the R211s come... but if they do choose to put the R32s on standby and do a final run at the end, I'd prefer if it was on the (Q) since that's the first line the R32s went into service on. Then again, the saying is "everything dies on the (A)," so they might just do another (A) trip.

like i said before, Upper East Side residents needs to get ready for more of these mechanical problems because the MTA decided to play psychological and emotional games/warfare by giving us these crappyslow R68s train cars from the 1980s that are literally falling apart. Shame on you MTA.

They are not “literally falling apart” and they are fine on the (B) and (D). I’d rather have them on the (Q) than R46s, but even the R46s aren’t that bad, they ran good enough on the (F) and (R), so just be patient for the time being... We get it...

The (N)(W), like the (2)(5), need cars with electronic exterior side signage for obvious reasons.

I wasn't specifically saying that the R46s shouldn't be on the (N)(W), but that's a really good point now that I think about it. Anyway, there are clearly surplus R46s to cover the (B)'s fleet even with the (N) and (W) full.

I rode R160s on the (N) both this past Thursday and Friday and saw plenty of them on the (Q). Even a couple on the (W). Aren’t most, if not all, of the Siemens R160s staying at Coney Island? Should be plenty of opportunities to ride them on the (Q), maybe less so on the (N)(W) (just need to fix those crappy digital side destination signs on the R46s!).

Jamaica still has more R46s to hand off to Coney Island so I'm pretty sure that at least some of the Siemens fleet is going to leave Coney Island... probably making the (Q) get more R68s (probably from the (G) since more R46s are slowly replacing the R68s on the (G)), and as I've stated earlier, there will still be more than enough R46s from Jamaica to fill up the entire (N)(W) and (G) and still have enough left over to at least somewhat cover the (Q) (or (B) but I'm pretty sure the (B) is out of the equation).

On a side note, I'm wondering why R46s are being placed on the (Q)(N)(W) and (G) if the (B) was already running older cars than them (the (Q)(N)(W)'s when they were almost full R160 versus the (B)'s R68/As) and is a weekday-only service (as opposed to all 4 previously mentioned)? Wouldn't it be a better fit and make sense to have at least some of the R46s run on the (B) instead and displace the R68/As over to the rest of the CI lines? The R46s would then have at least a bit of a breather with the reasons stated before...

And about those digital signs... I was on an AM rush (Q) that had the signs flipping between (N) to Canal Street and (K) to World Trade Center via 8th Avenue Local, and eventually the conductor went on speaker and said "I can't change the damn sign!" 🤣

I can confirm. The last Alstom set I ever saw was 8743-8747 and 8768-8772 on Thursday on the (Q):

    <Video omitted>

Besides those sets, the (Q) has been almost entirely R160 Siemens with a few R46s and R68s thrown in occasionally.

8743-8747, 8768-8772 is back at Coney Island...  Saw the deadhead move myself earlier today.

So did it ever even leave Coney Island in the first place? Why would it just leave for a single day?

Coney Island doesn’t have anymore R160 Alstom sets anymore. Just R160B Siemens sets left. 25 sets. Mainly on the (Q) but you’ll see some on the (N) and (W)

How much would it cost to rebuild the Nassau to Manhattan Bridge connection? I think that a service from Chambers St to Coney Island via 4 Av Local and Sea Beach Express would be a MASSIVE benefit to crowding on the (N).

    My proposal:

    (QJ)

    Nassau St Local

    4 Av Local

    Sea Beach Express

    BOLDED = stops all times

UNDERLINED = stops only during rush hours

NORMAL = stops during non-rush hour and weekends/nights

    • Broad St (J)(Z)
    • Fulton St (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(A)(C)(E)(R)(W)
      • non-rush trains start at Chambers, rush hours extended to Broad
    • Chambers St (J)(Z)(4)(5)(6)<6>
    • Mott St
      • after the new station at Mott st, it would run via the (Q) tracks on the Bridge
      • uses (N) tracks to Atlantic during rush hour.
    • DeKalb Av (B)(Q)(R)
    • Atlantic Av (2)(3)(4)(5)(B)(D)(N)(Q)(R)(MTA)LIRR
    • Union St (R)
    • 4 Av-9 St (F)(G)(R)
    • Prospect Av (R)
    • 25 St (R)
    • 36 St (D)(N)(R)
    • 45 St (R)
    • 59 St (N)(R)
      • peak direction express 8 Av to Kings Hwy
    • 8 Av (N)
    • Fort Hamilton Pkwy (N)
    • New Utrecht Av - 62 St (N)(D)
    • 18 Av (N)
    • 20 Av (N)
    • Bay Pkwy (N)
    • Kings Hwy (N)
      • all trains run express Kings Hwy to Coney Island
      • all (QJ) trains stop on the local track at Kings Hwy unless island platforms are built.
    • Coney Island (D)(F)(N)(Q)

    Thoughts?

Wouldn't it be way more straight forward to just have this run with the R to Bay Ridge like the <RR>/brown R did? And to be honest, the Manhattan Bridge connection would disrupt DeKalb more than it already is...

Speaking of which, I remember when Bay Ridge residents wanted to split the R for additional service (that was a while ago), and maybe what I said above can be a good candidate to coincide with the (R). Thoughts?

R46’s hold more passengers than the R68/A’s because of the cab-less passenger cars. Some of the R46’s look more modern than the R68s/A’s with them yellow looped stanchions, door mats, and LED lighting.

Still can't get rid of that 70's beige variation color scheme on the walls and floor, the R46s will still look older for that very reason 😂
