  1. Exactly 2 weeks left for me.

Got my invitation email for the 12th.

Stupid question, its 25 questions for definitions and 25 questions for signals, right?

I talked to a conductor and he said that he got tested for all definitions and signals.

You are correct. We only have 50 questions total 25 and 25. Good luck to you my friend when the day comes. This here is definitely a rat race.

I think worse than failing straight up would be to ace exam, do well on panel interview and to never hear back again. That has got to be killer!

  2. Hey Ironhorse,

I JUST got the email confirmation regarding the test for July 17th @ 8am. I just RSVP'd for attendance. And you are definitely right, been hammering away at the flash cards/notes.

As for the signals, theres no big secret other than doing what I did with the definitions: Flash Cards. They especially become easier once you realize the patterns/layouts. 2 1/2 weeks to go, keep at it everyday for at least 3-4 hours theres no reason why we wont pass this thing.

Cool! Yeah, i didn't get email regarding test yet but wasn't sure if they'd send another one out. I'll be looking for it. I'm 100% with definitions and grinding signals now. Looking forward to the 17th but time is flying by for sure.

  3. 3 weeks to go. Got 60/72 definitions and 77/125 signals down. 2 weeks will be used for complete review. How is everyone else doing?

I'm good! Definitions done, signals start tomorrow. Only enough time if you started right away. Not too many people in here for our test class i think. Most others are passed the test.

  4. For anyone passing the exam, i know the instructor at our overview said punctuation and even spelling doesn't matter as long as they can make out the word, lol, however....what about dashes between names in definitions including for signals? Anyone know. Like block limit sometimes has one in definitions but sometimes doesn't.

  5. Already memorized 77 of the 125 signals. To me the signals are EASY AS CAKE.

The definitions are going to be a pain and the challenge. Some of these lengthy definitions are KILLER.

A friend on the RR told me definitions were harder and to master those 1st. I got 30 down in 1st week. But they mess with your head. Gotta review the ones you know all the time.

  6. That is correct IronHorse. Would like to follow up on my initial application. Over 20 years in cash handling and customer service and would like to know why I have not been contacted.

I'm pretty sure that if you applied but never were called at all, there is nothing you can do. I've been told that with the thousands of applicants that apply to positions like this that not every app gets seen and then its luck of the draw if you get picked, even with relative experience. Don't give up though, keep applying. Check every week for new job posts and apply to any. After a year you can always move around.

  7. @Ironhorse

Just to confirm you have a test date of July 17th, 2017 @ Hillside Facility (where we attended the overview) at 8am correct?

For me, yes, this is correct. My email and the teacher says so.

Does anyone know how I can follow up on my application for this please?

Do you mean.....you applied online but never were called for next steps like going to initial open house??

  8. Hi all, new but have been lurking for some time. You may recall when we took the fist initial testing (at least at mine) Linda gave two dates for the S & D overview in June and 2 test dates in July, she said we could be called for either. I think some of you are confusing them. If you took the overview on June 7th, you have your test 5 weeks after on July 12th. If you had your overview June 12th, you should have your test July 17th. Now I am not LIRR HR so of course don't only go by what I am saying....but I did pay attention :) Hope this clears it up for some of you.

    Makes sense Rene!

  9. The email says July 17th just not a specific time/location. The email specifically states exact information will be given by the instructor. I heard the instructor say 8am July 17th but I guess too much second guessing myself.

@newyorkgrom: can you post the email excerpt by any chance? What is going on here!

Strange, the email inviting me to overview also had invite for july 17th exam.

  10. Hello everyone.

    Im new here.

Taking the S&D test on July 12th at Hillside. Anyone else?

Also, do we have to memorize the signals for Zone A?

You mean July 17th! And yes, everything in packet. We just don't need to know the difference between A and C yet. You still need to know name and indication though. You weren't sleeping at overview, were you?

  11. For those who attended the 6/12 S&D overview this past Monday... as a bit embarrassing as this may sound the exam is scheduled for July 17th @ 8am correct at the Hillside facility? Reason I ask is a couple of us gathered contact info to possibly get some study sessions together and one of the members has a different test info. (Im just gonna assume they misheard the instructor or was completely engrossed in the studying packet)

Uhhhh, yes. Its in all of our email correspondence from LIRR. As well as they said.....5 weeks to the day from Overview. Looks like somebody wasn't paying attention! Lol

  12. A few days it was a pain

Ok, good. I was feeling like damn i should be studying already but I've only had packet 24 hours. Lol. I'm possessed like you guys to do good and perform. I think writing the same indication over 6 times to make flash card is helping already. Haha

  13. Hey everybody! S&D Overview complete!! Now to make my cards and get cracking. So pumped. Lady teacher today said only 3 classes scheduled for this year, 2 in August and 1 in September. No more! If you do good but don't get called, they'll put you in a class this coming year. Not discouraged even though i went to a late overview just short of training. This is baby steps. Good luck people!
