I use Metro-North and the express bus because most of my commuting is to and from Manhattan. I would drive to go to other destinations such as Westchester.  I have friends that insist on driving into Manhattan, and it's a hassle. Looking for parking, or babysitting the meter while we have dinner... No thanks.

Metro north and LIRR I believe are over priced. They should actually lower the rates on there.

You seem to not understand that all of the fees are there to discourage people from driving.  There is over 8 million people in this City and not everyone can drive in. It's simply not feasible.

Of course I understand it. However people who don't own a car nor drive. To agree drivers should foot the bill for a public transportation system and not pass the bill onto its customers. Imo are people who want to capitalize off of the backs of drivers.

So I will ask you do you drive?? Do you own a car??

I think we need to discourage driving especially in NYC, where road capacity is limited

That being said I don’t think it should be an obligation for public transportation to be self sustaining as people who don’t drive also pay for the upkeep of road.

As a society we should stop treating Transit as welfare and more as a public service. The welfare mentality is exactly why many cities have bus system that runs VERY unfrequently and VERY early (some end at 5:30PM)

Does that give the (MTA) a excuse for our of control cost? No absolutely not. We need a full audit of their books done by someone OUTSIDE of NYS to ensure we taxpayers and riders are getting the best bang for our bucks

Do you drive?? Do you own a car?? I get charged a large amount for registration for insurance. The city tickets driver left and right. This doesn't happen in other cities as often.

    I'm all for audits though.

There's a ton of surcharges for various bills that we all pay that go to the (MTA). You should closely examine your bill next time. They obviously don't say (MTA) but they are there, and yes that includes cell phone bills.

This article is from 2009, but the surcharges still apply:

NY State has some of the highest cell phone surcharges around, and as a you can see, the (MTA) gets their cut of that and other surcharges from other bills we pay.

    https://nypost.com/2009/04/13/phone-taxes-are-cell-hell/

As for your other comment, drivers should be taxed, to discourage them from driving and polluting the air.  If everyone drove, it wouldn't work.  There's already too much congestion as it is, hence why congestion pricing was passed, to get more people out of their cars and using transportation. We are a City of over 8 million. It is simply not feasible to have everyone driving.

It's simply penalizing the people who drive in. Keep it as is. If I want to drive and not take public transportation don't gouge me like they've gouged the people who smoke cigarettes.

It's easy for people who don't drive maybe don't even have cars to be for congestion pricing. I do both. I don't think it's fair not one bit.

  5. 18 minutes ago, Via Garibaldi 8 said:

No, it should not cost more.  What you are looking at is the fare. You aren't considering how many times we are taxed for that fare.... Phone bills and other utility bills add a surcharge that goes to the (MTA).  Bridges and toll fees go to the (MTA) as well.  Any cabs or Ubers you take... There's another surcharge that goes to the (MTA) , and now we'll have congestion pricing.  That should be more than enough money for the (MTA) with a lockbox in place.

There's a surcharge of phone bill that goes to the mta?? I know cell phone bills don't have that. I don't have a land-line. Bridges and tolls are supposed to mainly go to the upkeep for the bridges. Ubers you are right.

I think people should pay the cost to use the trains and buses. Don't tax me cause I drive to the city that's ridiculous. I also take the trains and I'm fine with paying more. As long as congestion pricing doesn't occur.

  6. 6 hours ago, Mtatransit said:

Still the optics of this is terrible

    The fare just went up,

MTA tells our government that they needed money and fast

    Congestion pricing passes

    We taxpayer pay more

and now this. This is completely unacceptable. 3,000 hours of overtime? I want a thorough investigation into this, and if nothing happens, I want ALL LIRR funding suspended until a detailed report and changes could be published.

Idk what trains you take. I'm gonna say this. Mta nyc should cost more. It should be $3.50 per ride and bused should be $2.75 and Transfers between the two should be half off. So it should cost $4.85 or so each way to location if you take both. They should be more vigilant of people skipping fares on bused via the back door.

Ferries should cease being subsidized. Staten Island ferry charge them for taking it. All the other ferries as well. Do all this and THEN look into overtime for the MTA. LIRR and Metro North those you can look at now. They've always gotten paid more and had better jobs.

Do this and don't add a congestion tax. I drive to the city and sometimes I'm driving in from NJ not every day but 3-4 days a week usually I'm driving in. Why should I fit the bill when you don't charge your customers what you should at least first???

Bankers and other don’t make million off taxes, they make it off profit. Those that make it off taxes are in jail.

We New Yorkers deserve better than being held captive by the railroad in their inefficient work rules and overtime abuse

We need change, otherwise I would support cutting aid to the LIRR

Enough is enough, we can’t pay an ever increasing fare, and taxes and receive the same poor service

I'm speaking about the bailout. Yes Bankers were making bonuses while people's houses were going into foreclosure. Millions. There is corruption of the highest degree in financing, In politics.

There will be an investigation for sure. They are going for a new contract their contract just expired. Caputo took too much and they got too greedy all the people on the list and others who were eating off that overtime train. If they would've kept it the way it was a few yrs ago things might've gone less noticed.

Please don't fall victim to them putting this story on blast to mask the other abuse Many people commit. Including millionaires who get away with paying less taxes than they should.

  8. 23 hours ago, Mtatransit said:

Maybe when MTA implement tap on/tap off system, on LIRR and MNR, the system will be cheaper to run

Anyhow looks like Caputo has no comment

Caputo is my hero Real talk 💯. He's a legend. People up in arms. I get it but they just ignore the bankers and others who make millions off people's taxes.

. Meanwhile they are going in depth on Caputo.

People. Listen. We all need to stop believing rumors and let the personnel that’s on the field to give accurate information. Most of us here, myself included would want the dream job to work for the (MTA). Patience is strongly encouraged and also if you have a higher being that you believe in. I strongly encourage that you pray.

As they say prayer works and it could create marvelous things in your life. So a little patience in this process can help a lot!

I agree people shouldn't listen to others with these hiring freezes unless it comes from MTA themselves. And also if you and others want to pray that's good.

However while working at MTA is a good job. My dream job entails sitting at a desk in an office and earning $250k+ while working 9-5pm

I was close as hell to getting called also and now there's an apparent hiring freeze like really....

It really sucks, I been so close to city jobs and government Jobs and it’s been nothing but BS coming in at the last minute when I’m right there! To  block my way 🤦🏾‍♂️.

Idk what number you are Riku but anything under 3k I'm guessing strongly that you will get hired. They move up this list. Last list lasted what almost 10yrs.

Schecter I would put money down you'll be going to class before the yr is up.

  11. 2 hours ago, Schecter said:

On yeah makes sense you'll be making a crap ton more money than an MTA conductor. What's your list number anyways is it low or really high?

Mid 1900's. I think base conductor is about $23.75 or so. And they keep you there for 2 full years. With a slight cola that's maybe 3%.

I would be a c/r first.  This way,  if you realize during the first year of being a T/o that it's not for you,  or if you fail T/O school car,  you go back to being a c/r.  If you go straight to t/o,  and fail school car,  you're done.

The 5 years to reach max applies if you do 2 yrs c/r and then 3 years t/o?? In other words 5 years and then you max in any position you  transfer to?

Just study your behind off when you get into school, and I have high hopes that all of us will be coworkers down in the tunnels

Such a positive post more and more its looking like I'm going to pass on this opportunity. However I wish all of you nothing but the best. Lot of positivity on this forum.

MTA is lucky to be gaining many of you as employees 💯

Hey everyone, I called dcas and the recording mentioned that the last eligible is 845x, I'm list number 62xx. Although I got a 93.xx on the exam what does the"last eligible certified " mean? My apologies for the lack of knowledge, thank you in advance.

I would imagine from DCAS statement that at the most there is a slight chance 845x has a chance of getting hired since they are eligible and you at 62xx have a chance of getting hired as well before the list expires in 2022 if im not mistaken. Which they may or can expand a yr or two like they did with the prior exam.

Thats what a group of us started when I started the NYPD process a bunch of future NYPD cops made a WhatsApp thread to keep everybody informed on what's going on and etc it was extremely helpful. People were telling each other which list number was next what to do and what to prepare for. Obviously none of us gave out any answers, but each of us guided each other towards the road to success.

    You retired from NYPD?

So I'm assuming the next class would consist of high 1300s and low 1400s possibly/hopefully 👏

You're lucky for this job at least that your 5th number in your soc sec number is either a 0 or a 1. Because we are 500 numbers away with the same score, If i remember correctly. With the 5th number in my soc sec number being a 2.

Can anyone answer the question of whether or not the next C/R Exam is given right after this one expires (2022) or if it could be given out earlier? Wanted to know to see when I would be able to take it myself in the coming years

The last test was given before the old one expired. They may have extended it before then though not positive. The last list with extensions that list lasted 10 yrs or so. I would imagine this one gets extended at least once before it expires in 2022.

Man that's crazy you make that type of money at a hotel. I would stay put. Hotel life is probably 100000x better than transit life. Can you go back if you quit?

Union kinda strong. Free meals, free comp at other places but i never take. That's base pay. If i was at 100pct I would've made $113k.

I've got co-workers work two jobs two spots 35 hrs each= 70 hrs making about $125k.

Just that pension is what intrigues me oh and the extra sick days. 12 compared to 8 and I get 9 paid holidays. I think transit gets more right? "A sick day is a sick day free for my union Brothers to use when they need to" - business agent.

I can take a leave of absence. Another issue is I gotta get on my bosses to put up more OT. Myself and another co-worker the only ones in our department really fighting for more OT sometimes we get it sometimes we don't.

Well that depends on a few things. I’ve been on the job and have heard them call on the radio for any C/Rs who want to stay for late clears for certain times! I’ve also been at the terminal and heard the dispatchers asking if any C/Rs want to stay for extra trips. The lines might not be to your liking! I’m assuming you want to make money so you wont mind working any line. If you want to make money you certainly can! For late clears you get paid their weird version of time and a half, example if you get 4 hrs of OT, you get paid those hrs at straight pay then 2 bonus hrs at half pay to make your time and a half.

I've also asked the same and got a similar response. Ok let's say you have want to work OT you want to work 50-55 hrs per week. Is that feasible?? On base pay at my job I earned $83k. I worked approximately 50hrs or less per week.

My pay is up 14pct. So will definitely go and ask questions about ot and everything else I'm curious about.

I see people in the low 1300s have been sworn in.  That deeply disheartens me, to say the least, bc I should’ve been one of them. I’ve waited years to get hired, like everyone.

.....But I was screwed over, based on my last post to this forum.  I followed the rules, dressed professionally, showed up in time (super early to get a low ticket number, which did NO help)....but bc I couldn’t stay to piss in a cup, after already waiting SEVEN hours, for the THIRD bs pre employment, I was removed from the list. That is unacceptable. And I’m sure some can relate.  And those who say, ‘well if you want it bad enough, you make time’.....that really annoys me bc I’ve tried......

I am a CURRENT employee. For those who get hired with the MTA, see how easy it is to get a day off, or even a change of assignment, then get back to me. I’ve put in COAs twice already for this same nonsense....which is hard enough....that does not mean I can spend ALL day at 180....I have a responsibility to my current position to report on time. ....as people have posted, the nature of this job is to report ON TIME, no matter what.... Therefore, I had to leave, which does not insinuate I did ‘not want it bad enough’.  There is NO excuse to shut down the MAC indefinitely.  And for current employees, fandoms, accidents, etc, there are MACs all over the city, NOT just 180. So if 180 has candidates in, they should be considerate of their time and get them through a PE as fast as possible, ESPECIALLY if it’s a 2nd, 3rd, 4th.   I was given no professional courtesy in getting through fast.  The whole process for those of us back for 2, 3, 4 PEs should take no more than 10-15 minutes....to review the SAME application (btw, NO photocopies allowed...I learned that the hard way), and pee in a cup.....NOT 8 plus hours!

What further aggravates me.....on my second PE, there was a female MTA employee in my group to review the PE paperwork.....the male HR specialist was all nice to her, saying he’d get her through the day quick, laughing and everything...and she was NOT working that day. I WAS working later.....was I given any courtesy like that?  Nope....bc I’m a male (Isn’t that discrimination?).  So should I not be aggravated? Does anyone relate??

I waited years, like everyone, and I should’ve been sworn in for this next hiring,  based on my list number. And I missed out.  And the third PE was a completely wasted date (time AND money for tolls, gas and parking)....simply bc I couldn’t stay any longer for a piss test, even though I did a THIRD, UNCHANGED PE application. Total nonsense!!!!  And I was in line over an hour early, and waited SEVEN hours.

They take people coming in for the first time over those back a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time. Does that make any sense? Those of you who get hired by the MTA, you’ll see....that’s how the whole authority is run....backwards.

Anyone have any advice on who to call to reactivate my name and go back in for the next class?? Is it Vargas?.

****And PLEASE be considerate to all of us are who still waiting, and those who are possibly in similar circumstances as me, and not rub in that you’ve been ‘sworn in’.  Thank you.

Isn't this something you could bring up to your union rep?? Idk at my job any complaints such as this magnitude I contact my business agent.

And it is discrimination. Gender discrimination which happens for sure. Sounds like it's a tough place to work at. How about change of schedules do they approve with co-workers? I change my schedule from time to time.
