I’m really discouraged at the moment seeing how fast this is moving in relation to my situation.

I’m still stuck in Florida until November when I graduate HVAC school. I’m #16xx and never received an OPA invite and even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to fly back to NY yet. My plan was to move back to NY by the time they reached 16xx but it seems they already passed me.

Tickets from Fl to Nyc is still real cheap

I was #2 on line waiting by the elevators but of course people stroll and with no common courtesy and complete ignore folks ahead of them. So when getting off the elevator and instead of lining up by the same order that you waited in the lobby they just bum rush people. So one lady who arrived in the lobby  after like 20+ people were already waiting before her she ended up #1 after getting off the elevator and I ended being #8 and the #1 person waiting in the lobby ended up #6 off the elevator. They should have had a list down in the lobby for people to sign in as they arrive so they can go by that order instead of the chaos that ensued.

I was number 3 or 4 by the elevator and i damn sure was 4 when i signed in.

That cutting me in line don't fly with me. Think of it as a preparation for some rude straphangers 😂!!

It boggles my mind how many people will screw themselves out of a great oppurtunity like this over something so stupid as failing a drug test.

When you call her tomorrow could you try to find out the dates for the July/August classes if possible?

It doesn't boggle my mind at all. You have people making over $200k a year as high functioning coke heads on wall st.

Depending on what they failed the drug test for. Marijuana will be legal in NY state soon and not just medicinally.  Opioids lotta people got on that and has been hard for them to get off.

What was said is correct. Night diff is paid 6pm till 559am, Monday to Friday and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. (So from Friday 6pm till Monday morning 559am is paid night diff)

Gotcha like i thought. So same amt then? Weekend differential and night differential is the same.

    Thanks

If I remember correctly, for NYCT, they said that you get night differential 6pm Friday to 6am Monday

I hope you're wrong and night differential is daily and weekend differential is on the weekend.

I guess i will have to ask them. Or somebody starting class can ask them. I'm pretty sure Ot doesn't get compounded with night and or weekend differential i wish my job did so 💰

For night differential, here you go... Every employee is entitled to a Night Differential of Night shift pay of not less than 10% of his regular wage for each hour of work performed between 10pm and 6am. To determine the employee Night Differential pay: Ordinary Day Night Differential = (Hourly rate × 10% × 8 hours). For Conductor, it's between the hours of 1800 to 0559

So minimum $2.22 . Starting at 6pm is 🔥 at max pay it's minimum $3.15 or so.

Also weekends differential as i understand it starts at 6pm Friday til 6am Monday. That's wassup. Still curious if more or the same as night differential.

At my job night differential starts at 8pm every night. I work weekends. No weekend differential. All these things add up and will determine what path i choose. Thanks for the info 🖒

I would beg to differ because if you look on this website that was provided earlier on this post: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/widgets/pjqi-8psc

Just looking at their hiring frequency due to the vacancies they had to fill:

    March 2017 = 400

    May 2017 = 300

    August = 1,000

    October = 500

March 2018 = 200 (they started our list here)

all we can do is hope that it is somewhat the same pace for 2018 and we'll be called sooner than expected!

They also were going off a list that was 9 yrs old. 10 yrs for that list. They also hired a large amount of conductors past yr.

Again i'm curious where they got up to on that 8094 list and how quickly they got to 2,000's and beyond.

Myself it's looking like ima likely pass on the job. There will be others to also pass and or not pass medical. That will help speed things up.

    I'm just being realistic.

I'm in the 50xx range.  I'm trying to get an estimate of when I might get called for OPA.  The Exams Unit did respond to my email in a timely manner, which was great, but they simply said they can't provide an estimate. They did say they try to give ten days notice of the OPA date when they do notify you.

At how fast a rate are they doing the OPA testing and processing?

Does it seem likely that I might be scheduled for the OPA this summer or fall?

Tbh there is no reason to schedule opa's for people 5,000 and up anytime soon.

Someone posted they were hiring what about 300 or so conductors per year? A list that was established 10yrs ago would have to see up to where they got in three years. If i was to get hired in early 2020 at number 1900's that would be a nice pace.

  9. Still curious if anyone knows weekend differential? Is if the same as night time differential? What is the rate for night time differential and when does it begin?

I believe someone answered the last question. However if so i forgot the amount. Any help is appreciated 💯

Want to ask for some personal advice: Was recently offered a promotion at my job (currently at $19.50 at my position, promotion would put me at $22). My list number for this exam is low 700's. I would take the conductor job all day over my current job (I do love my job though). Should I turn down the position and wait it out?  Would hate to turn down the promotion and never get called from the conductor job (is that possible?). Feels like a good problem to have, but still feel stuck and would like some professional advice.

Someone said it already. Virtually no job truly cares about you. Most places workers are expendable in their eyes.

Take the promotion. Fact is you nor no one truly knows when you will get called. Things can happen fail the medical etc.

Wish the best for everyone but your job can't knock you for it. Just give two weeks notice if you do start as conductor down the line.

Yeah you're so right especially because we have 32BJ and starting off pay for me was 24.50 an hour

Local 6 here. My starting pay was about $26 per hr. Doormen about the same. They max out at $35.50 i think this july.

Not much tips but holiday time they get $11-$15k bonus from residents. Also some ot and most work holidays to get that extra 9 days paid. Brings up 90k-$110k most some more.

Why you leaving?? That's a good gig.

Mostly because I'm burnt out on my current job.  It's not a good "career".  It's more of a fast, high pressure hustle, fly by night type of job.  I want to move into something with benefits and a pension.

If you're wondering what it is, I'm a car salesman.  I'm so over it.  I started really young, and have been at it for over 15 years.  I want a change, something with stability, and no sales goals involved.

Speaking of which im going to buy a car tomorrow a 2015 q50 28k miles $18k. Good deal??

I can relate. Mta has good benefits. Better pension than most places. Ot seems pretty good and good benefits. I would be leaving a good job and an over $100k job come 2019. A close to $100k job this yr.

Good luck in whatever u decide.

This is a nice informative forum. Lotta helpful people on here. Much success to all of you. 🤞👍👍💰💰

    To add onto this:

While you're in schoolcar, you will be getting 8 hours a day, 40 a week, 80 a pay period. You will be taken out during the PM and hawk (overnight) tours, so you will be getting your night diff as well. I believe once you start road posting, you will get the hours of whoever you're posting with. So you get paired with someone with a 10 hour job, you'll get 10 hours. It will add up and you will make more than the minimums. When I started as a bus op, I was making at the time $22.70/hr. I worked the extra list (PMs) after line training. Out of 9 paychecks, only 3 of them were sub $1200. The rest were greater than that. 2017 was my first full year on the job and I grossed $55,000. (@ $22.70 for 9 months, $24.32 for the last 3 months) You will definitely make more than base.

I would go down to medical and be instructed from there. They can directly give her a new date and if they let her do the medical and she isn't cleared, she can get cleared before she returns for the rest of processing.

Thanks for this^ my first full year at my job 2017 i grossed $74k. And u get paid more than conductors slightly i think. This yr im headed towards $93k with a 10% bump in July putting me at $30 per hr and we fighting for more. I support all unions btw lol. Max pay this yr i would surpass $115k easily.

If i get the pre employment letter. I will speak at length with the person. My Cousin or Uncle makes over $130k at the Mta but hes an Electrician Supervisor.

  15. 2 hours ago, Schecter said:

Did you receive the OPA yet at least?

Yea passed it too. I go to 85% at my job in July to $30.50 or so and we're fighting for $32.00

Now if i get hired 2020 im at 100pct pay then prob about $38 then with ot kicking in after 35hrs. Im on pace for making $93k this yr. Not including my bump in July. Gonna be hard to leave that. Same pace in 2020 would easily be over $120k. Just pension is 1,200 per mo and mta much more. I get free lunches at work and some comp nights at hotels worldwide. Just that pension that has me interested.

Going based on the last test you could be looking around 3 years, maybe a bit more depending if they meet their conductor needs. You won't receive a letter for the OPA until they are closer to the point that they will want you for pre-employment.

    I'm 1900's. 2 yrs for me?

Yeah, I got my list number the same way. I am in the 4xx. If that congestion pricing hits the city, I am sure there is going to be hiring spree.

I hope it doesnt i drive to the city for work Saturday and Sunday and holidays.

Trains suck on the weekends and late at night sometimes.
