  1. not to sound like a broken record, but it's absolutely a sight for sore eyes
  2. that is absolutely true. my ex wife operated a Yukon SBS NG on a M101 trip one winter at 100 street
  3. that would solve one of the greatest mysteries in Brooklyn Division. the story i heard over the years is that originally Flatbush, East NY & Ulmer Park wanted no part of the NG order in the first place... but DOB forced them down FB's throat. also, it's been said that if Grand Avenue never was built/never opened, Ulmer Park would've had NG's forced on them too. gotta keep in mind that those 3 depots (FB, EN & UP) were RTS heavy in 2008, aside from the 67xx/68xx OG's at East NY, which they didn't want them, allegedly. i do recall an NG being at East NY Depot (i can't recall the fleet number, when exactly it was there or for how long) and i remember hearing it did a trip on the B15 to & from the Postal Facility (i could be misinformed)
  4. amen. those NG's have been work horses for Yukon/the SBS S79 since the sbs began. they've earned a long overdue rehab/overhaul/rest, lord have his mercy
  5. because those 42xx NG's NEED a break 😂 but the official reason? i haven't the slightest clue.
  6. i could be mistaken, but i believe that the digital run boxes work the Same way that the fareboxes work with the destination sign display: all info is logged into the farebox and thusly is displayed on the destination sign & runbox. for awhile (and i believe currently with Bus Company) the farebox & destination sign were separately logged into. so as i said, i believe a new system has to be in place for the runbox, farebox & destination sign to be connected.
  7. i believe so. people are paying on the 44, at least from what I've briefly seen. but just like over on utica, there are quite a few people paying then handing their P.O.P. tickets off to others, so the fear of no ticket = you'll be fined is definitely present
  8. THAT would absolutely be interesting. also NJ Transit & CT Transit have numbering schemes as well (CT recently redid their system, iirc)
  9. yep, i hear you. the same move they pulled when they converted the b44 to sbs... chop some runs off the board, expand a few paddles, then see if a headway increase will be "needed". it is what it is.
  10. THANK YOU! I've felt this for years. i believe once the new radios & fareboxes are purchased, the electronic run boxes will be finally integrated. NJ Transit, SEPTA & WMATA already have em, why not NYCTA
  11. my god. firstly, thank you @East New York for the info. secondly, Casey Stengel Depot closing will be an absolute mess. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in ATU Local 1056's union hall discussing how the hell this will work without having runs go to bus company yards. these are interesting times we're living in. personally, i can't see this closure being successful with only Queens Village & Jamaica Depots taking on runs/lines. thirdly, the sbs46 artic conversion sounds good in theory. I'm just tickled to see if the utica Avenue headways get chopped. i mean artics & 3 minute headways works for the SBS-Q44, I'd assume it would be suitable for the Sbs46. lastly, artics for east ny depot. that will be a sight to see. I'd like to assume the artics will be kept on sight and not parked in havens lot or Herkimer lot. those el pillars get in the way with parking 40 footers (shifters know the deal, lol) but we'll have to wait & see
  12. correct. at east ny, usually the xd's & og hybrids are what they prefer to go out first. any high mileage buses (RTS's) are locked up in havens lot or williams lot until the 5am reports and pull outs. at 100 street, they have all hawks pull out from the first floor, which would be chock full of D60HF's. nowadays, the LFS-A's are sent out for hawk pull outs. not every depot methodically "forces" hawks to pull out certain equipment. Flatbush parks buses whichever way, so it's a crap shoot as to what you may pull out. of course, senior operators can respectfully decline a bus and select their preference, but for the most part, yard dispatchers in general (especially for the hawks report times) aren't hard asses or a**holes. they'll let you pull out whatever at that hour. Same dispatcher at 5am, however, won't have the same attitude... especially with a GS or AGM floating around or breathing over their shoulder
  13. seniority. aaaand seniority lol. certain (not many) depots (like flatbush) have picks for each and every major holiday (and eves... xmas eve, etc). 100 street (Tuskegee) for example, doesn't do picks for holidays. whatever your run is, you do a holiday (modified) or weekend equivalent, which may or may not be different than your original run. i can only speak to the depots/Divisions I've worked in. i can't speak on Bus Company, Queens or Staten Island Divisions. every depot and division/union handles the runs uniquely.
  14. as i was leaving lindenwood for work, i observed casey Stengel's bus #5992 currently being operated by run 510 on the SBS-Q53 (southbound). i know the bus is only at LG for the summer, but i couldn't help but to chuckle at the CS logo on a LG line. have a safe day, folks
  15. the post i made probably should be moved to moves & transfers, but yes the RTS (or NG's) days are numbered at Flatbush.
  16. I'm currently sitting in Power park, adjacent to Flatbush Depot and bus #'s 7621, 7623 and 7624 have arrived at Flatbush Depot moments ago in select bus service paint
  17. yes. it's essentially the same bus. operators would have no problem operating in passenger service
  18. somewhere in the 4260's (i think it's 4263) someone used black electrical tape to make a 4 and a 6 for the rear bus number marking. that has to be the tackiest s**t I've seen on the Yukon sbs NG's
  19. electrical tape bus numbers... 6's turned upside down to be used as 9's... those NG's have had it. no TLC
  20. run numbers are assigned so that supervision and dispatchers can properly identify who's who on the road. and so bus operators know what assignments they are picking at any given time. run numbers are identifiers.
  21. technically, by bringing over the NG's from FB and GA allows for those NG's to be utilized on lines like the 44 etc, which frees up LFS's to be used on the 79 which has been happening for the past 2-3 weeks that I've been traveling on Staten Island. it may be 3 or so buses, but all that means is that at least 3 bombed out 42xx NG's aren't in passenger service
  22. no. run numbers have absolutely nothing to do with the actual b/o's personal pass/payroll numbers. all i was stating is that the Yukon NG's used on the 79sbs are atrocious looking. botched numbers and labels, etc. it's downright laughable tbh. but they seem to be some of the quicker NG's in the system. I've driven NG's out of FB and KB that weren't as quick. but that's just my visual perspective. i could be wrong.
  23. in the meantime, certain operators (runs 017 & 019) have repeatedly not been assigned NG's. it's definitely a sight for sore eyes seeing lfs's on the 79sbs. those NG's are physically a mess.
  24. over the last 2 weeks, i've seen the eagle team have team members board the q53sbs on 75 & bway and exit at hoffman, covering all 3 doors
